German “Ballad Hits” will differ from others; bonus tracks to appear on same CD

Written by Lars-Erik_Olson on October 1, 2002 to .

STOCKHOLM - Previous reports about the tracklisting for the upcoming collection of slower-tempo songs, “Roxette: The Ballad Hits,” have created a certain amount of confusion, especially when EMI Germany published a tracklisting on their site (now determined to be partially inaccurate) indicating they would be releasing the “limited edition” as a single CD, and TDR used that as the basis for an article.

Seeking to clarify the facts, The Daily Roxette has learned that in order to keep the retail cost down in an increasingly price sensitive market, EMI Germany has indeed decided to put the “limited edition” version of the album out on a single CD.

The “Ballad Hits” album itself, to be released November 4th, will contain the following songs:

1. A Thing About You (2002)
2. It Must Have Been Love (1987)
3. Listen To Your Heart (1988)
4. Fading Like A Flower (1991)
5. Spending My Time (1991)
6. Queen Of Rain (1992)
7. Almost Unreal (1993)
8. Crash! Boom! Bang! (1994)
9. Vulnerable (1994)
10. You Don´t Understand Me (1995)
11. Wish I Could Fly (1999)
12. Anyone (1999)
13. Salvation (1999)
14. Milk And Toast And Honey (2001)
15. Breathe (2002)

Bonus EP

It’s the bonus tracks that have created confusion. On the EP, which will be bundled with the “Ballad Hits” CD everywhere but Germany, these four tracks will appear:

1. The Weight Of The World - Bonus Track (previously unreleased)

2. It Hurts - Bonus Track (previously unreleased)

3. See Me - Bonus Track (B-side)

4. Every Day - Bonus Track (previously unreleased).

In Germany, EMI will be releasing a limited edition album that has 17 tracks on the same CD. This German release will include the 15 tracks listed above and two bonus tracks: “The Weight Of The World” and “It Hurts.”

After the limited edition/first pressing albums are gone (limited edition, in this case, will equate to the first pressing of the CDs made in EMI’s various manufacturing plants), the second pressing of the album will contain the core 15 tracks (in Germany and everywhere else).

Ballad Hits gets Canadian release date

Written by roxeteer on September 28, 2002 to .

EMI Music Canada has published a news story on The Ballad Hits album on their website: “[…] Roxette have collected their big ballads on one album. Songs that people all over the world relate to. Their seductive mix of tongue-in-cheek pop and sweepingly romantic ballads sound as fresh and effective as when they first stormed the airwaves.”

The ballad compilation will be released in Canada on November 5. While the story refers to “A Thing About You” as a single, it is uncertain if that’s actually the case in Canada, as the text is based on a press release from EMI Sweden.

Raspberry heart shape fills in on album cover

Written by Lars-Erik_Olson on September 26, 2002 to .

With a revised packaging concept and title, Roxette’s collection of slower tempo songs, “Roxette: The Ballad Hits,” is right on schedule for release on November 4th.

Roxette, working with Jonas Åkerlund and their record label, decided at the last minute to drop the “Love Peas” concept in favor of what you see here… raspberries floating in milk.

As first reported by The Daily Roxette, “Love Peas” and “Pop Peas” were dropped from the names of the two forthcoming ’greatest hits’-type albums. While the raspberry motif is being used for the ballad album, it is expected that some other object that ties in, yet is different, will be used on the up-tempo collection. The end result will be a series that has a coordinated look and feel… two albums and, as originally planned or conceived, a tour.

The published track listing for the first of the two is as follows:
1. A Thing About You (2002)
2. It Must Have Been Love (1987)
3. Listen To Your Heart (1988)
4. Fading Like A Flower (1991)
5. Spending My Time (1991)
6. Queen Of Rain (1992)
7. Almost Unreal (1993)
8. Crash! Boom! Bang! (1994)
9. Vulnerable (1994)
10. You Don´t Understand Me (1995)
11. Wish I Could Fly (1999)
12. Anyone (1999)
13. Salvation (1999)
14. Milk And Toast And Honey (2001)
15. Breathe (2002)
16. The Weight Of The World - Bonus-Track (previously unreleased)
17. It Hurts - Bonus-Track (previously unreleased)
18. Every Day - Bonus-Track (previously unreleased).

Peas vanish from album titles and cover art

Written by daniel_alv on September 24, 2002 to .

STOCKHOLM - The peas are gone… and possibly, we had something to do with it.

In a move that is sure to please the multitude of TDR readers who posted comments here and in our SmallTalk forum expressing their dismay – disbelief even – when we first reported that the title “Love Peas” would be given to the upcoming compilation of slower-tempo songs, Roxette and EMI have dropped the “peas” concept and reverted to naming the album “Roxette: The Ballad Hits!”

The decision to change the title and the packaging concept first came to our attention earlier this month when the listing changed on EMI Sweden’s list of upcoming releases.

On the cover of the single, “A Thing About You,” the peas have been replaced with raspberries.

Argentinian station can’t wait... plays webcast version of ATAY

Written by arnie on September 18, 2002 to .

CORDOBA, ARGENTINA - One of the most important radio stations here in Argentina
played the new Roxette single on Monday evening.
The announcer talked about Marie’s illness and said
that “Roxette is like love: one can’t live without the
other one”.

Some minutes later, he presented “A Thing About You.” The funny thing is… he played the “Mix Megapol
version.”

“We had waited for the promo but it never arrived,
so we decided to play this version, as we’ve had a lot of
requests,” he said.

Monday morning premiere for “A Thing About You”

Written by daniel_alv on September 9, 2002 to .

STOCKHOLM - Fans around the world with access to the Internet will be able to hear Roxette’s new single, “A Thing About You” on Monday morning. Swedish radio station MixMegapol plans to premiere the song around 8 a.m. and will probably replay the song several times throughout the day. Over the weekend, they ran spots mentioning the premiere. Other Swedish pop music stations are also expected to air and webcast the song on Monday.

Given that the Swedish tabloid newspaper Aftonbladet has already run an article about the making of the video for ATAY, it is possible that we’ll see additional coverage on their site as well (as has happened with Roxette’s single/video releases in the past).

Meanwhile, the Netherlands-based Official Roxette Fanclub has posted a 30-second clip from the song on their site.

Video of “A Thing About You” to be included in maxi-single

Written by i_jera on September 3, 2002 to .

STOCKHOLM - “A Thing About You”, the new Roxette single slated to be released on October 14th, will be available in two different packages.

A 2-track CD will come in a paper wallet with “Weight of the World” as the ’B side’. The maxi-single version, housed in a jewel case, will include both songs and also the video directed by Jonas Åkerlund.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Despite some posts in our SmallTalk section concerning Spain and Germany, the date that radio stations will have this song available to them to play remains unchanged: it’s September 9th.

More peas please: Follow-up CD to be called “Power Peas”

Written by Pascal on August 19, 2002 to .

STOCKHOLM - Having tweaked the idea a bit, Roxette and EMI have changed the title of the second of the two upcoming compilation albums.

The CD with the best uptempo songs will be titled “PowerPeas – The Pop Hits” and not “PopPeas – The Beat Hits” as originally announced.
