“Mazarin” climbs - in Sweden

Written by tevensso on October 3, 2003 to .

STOCKHOLM - Per Gessle’s successful album “Mazarin” climbs to #2 from #3 on the Swedish album charts today, Friday. The top spot is held by Bo Kaspers Orkester, while previous champion Iron Maiden falls to #5.

The older single “Här kommer alla känslorna (på en och samma gång)” falls one position, to #7, while the latest single “På promenad genom stan” falls to #28 from #20.

“Mazarin” climbs - in Norway

Written by tevensso on September 30, 2003 to .

OSLO (UPDATED) - Per’s successful concert and TV appearances in Norway seem to have paid off. “Mazarin” re-entered the charts last week and climbs from #23 to #6 this week. The album has spent five weeks on the Norwegian charts. This is the highest position a solo album by Per Gessle has reached in Norway so far. Previously, Marie Fredriksson’s greatest hits album, “Äntligen,” also reached #6 in the year 2000.

In Sweden, “Mazarin” is still at #3. The first single, “Här kommer alla känslorna,” has climbed back to #6 from #7. At the same time, the second single, “På promenad genom stan,” has entered the chart at #20. But that’s not all: there’s also a cover version of the old Gyllene Tider hit “När vi två blir en” by Miio on the Swedish chart at #5.

Editor’s note: The reason for moving “Mazarin” from #5 to #6 is that the sales of Sting’s new album was miscalculated due to the SACD version being counted by itself. When counted as one Sting overtook Per. TEV

Roxette was the best-selling Scandinavian act of 2002

The traditional World Music Awards will be held in Monte Carlo on October 12th. Roxette will receive an award for being the best-selling Scandinavian act of the year 2002. Their only new releases during that year were “The Ballad Hits” compilation and the single “A Thing About You”, but Roxette still beat other artists by selling over one million copies.

Roxette received the same award in the year 2000. Back then, they also performed live in the gala. This year Per and Marie are not attending.

Iron Maiden kicks “Mazarin” off #1

STOCKHOLM - After 11 weeks of being the solid #1 in Sweden, Per Gessle’s album “Mazarin” finally folds for Britain’s heavy metal band Iron Maiden. However, it only falls two spots, to #3. Maiden’s new album, “Dance of Death”, goes straight into #1 after two days’ sales. “We have very loyal fans in Sweden,” Iron Maiden says.

“Känslorna” falls to #3

Written by tevensso on September 6, 2003 to .

STOCKHOLM - After an incredible reign of in total 9 weeks as double #1:s “Här kommer alla känslorna” finally releases the #1 spot and falls to #3. “Mazarin” on the other hand keeps the #1 spot in a firm grip. “Mazarin” entered the charts as #1 in June and has remained there for 11 weeks, so far.

Monday Sept. 8th the next single, “På promenad genom stan”, will be released to the radio, and it has already entered the Rix FM’s chart “Topp 6 at 6”, at #5. Official release is Sept. 17, as reported before.

Per is also indirectly #4 on the singles charts with female duo Miio’s cover of Gyllene Tider’s 1980 super hit “När vi två blir en”.

Per still rules the charts

STOCKHOLM - After 10 amazing weeks Per Gessle’s hit album, “Mazarin”, is still at the #1 spot in Sweden. It has to date sold triple platinum (more than 180,000 units), and is reportedly closing in on quadruple. The first single “Här kommer alla känslorna” has been a #1 hit for 8 weeks, and consequently they both have been #1 together during those 8 weeks. That too is a record in itself. “Känslorna” has now sold gold (15,000 units). Per’s hope is to stay #1 at least until Christmas, he said jokingly in Aftonbladet.

The only Swedish album that has sold this much during the last few years is Kent’s “Vapen & ammunition”, which has sold five times platinum, but that is since April 2002.

Editor’s Note: TDR has learned that tickets are still available (as of September 1st) for Per’s upcoming shows in Oslo and Helsinki. – LEO

STOCKHOLM - Per Gessle has set a new record with “Mazarin” and “Här kommer alla känslorna”, he is the first person that has been #1 on both the single and album charts in Sweden for 7 weeks (and they’re still #1). “Mazarin” - which has been #1 for a total of 9 weeks - has sold an amazing 200,000 copies without any commercial spots at all. (Plus 10,000 in Norway).

There are only eight times someone has been #1 on both those lists at the same time, and two of them are Gyllene Tider and Roxette.

Per also says that the second single won’t come before everyone has stopped playing the damn first single.

“Mazarin” holds position, “Känslorna” climbs

STOCKHOLM (UPDATED) - “Mazarin” is #1 for the third week in a row. The single “Här kommer alla känslorna” is also #1 now, after a week at #2 after Sertab from Turkey.

“Mazarin” still #1

Written by tevensso on July 4, 2003 to .

STOCKHOLM (UPDATED) - Per Gessle is golden right now, the single “Här kommer alla känslorna” is the most played song in Sweden at the moment, and it’s at #1 on the radio show Svensktoppen. The gap, in points, between #1 and #2 has never been bigger.

And now “Mazarin” shoots directly into the top of the official album charts in Sweden. “I’m speechless, I’ve never ever received such a unified response on an album before!” says Per to Aftonbladet.

The superstar doesn’t take anything for granted, even though he’s had all his success with Gyllene Tider and Roxette. “Success like this is not common for anyone anymore. The climate is a lot harder and you don’t sell as much.”

What are the expectations before the tour?

“It feels like it’s gonna be demanding…” he laughs.

“Mazarin” is still #1 in Sweden. Per is also #1 on the Aftonbladet “What’s in and what’s not” list. “Här kommer alla känslorna” enters the singles charts at #2 after Sertab from Turkey.
