Aftonbladet calls Åkerlund Roxette’s third member

STOCKHOLM - Jonas Åkerlund is referred to as Roxette’s third member in Sunday’s edition of the Swedish tabloid newspaper Aftonbladet because when Per and Marie release a new album, Jonas seems to always somehow be involved.

  Along with this interview with Jonas, the newspaper published several photographs taken during the video shoot in Stockholm this past week.

Roxette’s third member: Jonas Åkerlund

  When Per and Marie release a new album, he’s always involved somehow.

  I’ve already done 15 videos with them,” says Jonas.

  The latest is called “A Thing About You”, a newly written song to be released on October 14th, to help create interest as on November 4th, Roxette releases “The Ballad Hits” collection. Aftonbladet can today publish exclusive pictures from the video shoot.
  “It’s a small love story between a guy and a girl. It is visually narrated, in symbols, with situations one can hopefully identify with if one has ever been in love,” says Jonas.

  Per and Marie are the narrators. Two hired actors are the couple-in-love.

  It is just the last example of a long and successful collaboration between Jonas and Roxette, which doesn’t seem to have an end in sight.

Will make more videos

“I’m doing the cover design for “The Ballad Hits” with Per and Marie and in the spring, “The Pop Hits” is out. So there are some more new songs to be recorded on video,” says Jonas.

  Everything started in 1992 with Marie’s solo album “Den Ständiga Resan”. Jonas directed a television report about the singer which contained two videos and was sold to many countries. From there, the step wasn’t long to Roxette.

  Jonas’ first video for the band was “Fingertips” from “Tourism” (1992).

  “I said early on, that if I’m going to do music videos, they’ve got to be seen. It’s meaningless to waste energy and ideas to do videos in Sweden that nobody sees and there wasn’t any other band besides Roxette to work with then. Luckily enough, Per and Marie trusted in me.

  A personal favorite from the long cooperation is the video for Gessle’s solo single “Kix”.

Hard to get new ideas

  “It attracted a lot of attention from abroad. A lot of people liked it. That was important. But it’s not just a video that helps you settle down in the business, it’s when you do a lot of things that maintain high-quality.

  One thing lead to another: Prodigy, Madonna, Metallica, Cardigans, U2..” Åkerlund has directed videos for them all and even more. It was a hard job from the beginning and it hasn’t become easier.

  “One doesn’t want to twist himself and recycle old ideas without coming up with new. And that’s hard.”

Åkerlund Åkerlund Åkerlund... I am getting sick of it. You see sticking to just ONE director is not a good move at all. Per again you have that annoying Hair Style and NOOOO I am NOT getting used to it. Marie is looking O.K.
As far as Per’s PINK shirt is concerned then because they are HUGE (ah well in Europe atleast) they can do anything but PINK?????
Roxette should hire some U.S based directors too as then Roxette might get some attention over there.

I have to say that I don’t like Akerlund’s videos at all, except “Wish I Could Fly”(It’s Perfect) and “Fingertips ’93”... but I LOVE the pictures of this video... and I LOVE the idea of a “love story” in this video... I always liked videos with stories.

Cool, REALLY cool... I think that this time we’re going to get a masterpiece (both song and video)

Puke, i hate this Akerlund guy - and no i wont bother to write it right!
His ideas have become stupid, and he makes P&M look stupid! I haven´t seen the videos for the other artists, but is he doing that horror with them too?? Or Roxette is just his video-test-dummies???
The first videos were nice, but the last ones....Also the ones with Marie were nice - but i think something in his brain got loose after She doesn´t live here anymore ;)

I want the video on tv now!!! and the song... the voice of Per in a ballad, It is unusual! I want to see the results and then I’ll be able to criticize, not before guys! Remember that “Wish I Could Fly” Video (by Akerlund) was very good

They are both looking YUMMY! and i don’t mind pink shirt, actually it is fun with some other “summer like” colours :)

Inspired by fanfiction I gotta say it’s a pity Per and Marie won’t be the love couple in the video ;-D ;-D

I don’t complain, I am happy, although from the scenery the video reminds a bit TCOTH.

I also got to say that I have a very good feeling about this new songs and videos... I had he same feeling bofore too, but when I saw the pictures from the video... I’m almost certain it’ll be great!!
Although, I haven’t been that thrilled about Åkerlunds work earlier... but he did do a great job with TCOTH and Real Sugar... So we’ll see... I have a good feeling about this anyway!!!!!!!

Hey, there is a post from someone who said that no-one should criticize anything before they haven’t seen the video - and that’s nothing but the naked truth! The last videos (Centre of the heart & Real sugar), except Milk and Toast and Honey, were a bit boring, but we have to give the new video a chance. Please think of this: Everyone can improve themselves if they make a mistake! I’m looking forward to seeing the new video and listening to the new smash-hit!?

Can you imagine Roxette without Clarence?? Man, they would be in trouble considering he’s the one that puts the music to the lyrics!!!! Yes, I know Per creates the demos, but there nothing like the finishing touches that Clarence creates in the studio/production process.

By the way...yes, definitely Roxette’s third member is CLARENCE and not Jonas.
I like Jonas’ videos, but not those he had made for Roxette. I liked Madonna’s “Ray of Light” and U2’s “Beautiful Day”, but I think he hasn’t done very creative videos with Rox, except for “Fingertips’93”. For me, the main reason for Rox to work with him again is that Per feels much more secure and able to act with him than with other directors. Rox on!!

I guess they just consider Clarence “part-of-the-band”. But you know it really doesn’t matter who they think is the third member because “us” fans already know different–it’s Clarence. I bet he did a wonderful job on this next single(maybe not though) considering it’s a cello and acoustic guitar only–I think. Maybe “Breathe” will be breath-taking with all the strings, keys, bass and all the good stuff we all know from ROXETTE!!!! woohoo!!
