The Daily Roxette presents to our readers: Marie’s new single!
Written by tevensso on September 26, 2004 to Marie Fredriksson.
STOCKHOLM (UPDATED) - The Daily Roxette is proud to present an advance preview of Marie Fredriksson’s new single: “2:nd Chance.” The song is being released to Scandinavian radio stations tomorrow (Monday).
“Oh thank God I’m alive…”
Update: Expressen’s Anders Nunstedt gives the single three stingers (out of five) today, and compares the song to The Beatles’ “Free As a Bird” like many already on The Daily Roxette. Other than that he says that Marie is hiding behind the English language, but he also adds that this kind of emotion may have been too much in Swedish. Nunstedt thinks that husband Micke’s music is weaker, while Marie’s lyrics and performance is strong. “After a few run-throughs the song’s bleakness dissipates,” Nunstedt says and concludes “Just give the song a second chance…”
Aftonbladet gives it three plusses (out of five) and calls it “…an intimate pop ballad with warm Jeff Lynne strings…”.

Aftonbladet’s stream is the “same” as ours, so it shouldn’t be any difference. :)

Do you think it will be available to purchase soon over the net?

Add me to the growing list of converts... at first I thought the song was okay, nothing more, but now it’s gotten under my skin. There’s definitely a few hooks here, too... the “for the second time” at the end of each chorus just sticks in your head and of course Marie’s rejoiceful “Thank God I’m alive!”... as fans, I think that really says it all.
A note about the production... I wonder if the vocal is one-take? Or the original from the demo? It sounds so raw, totally different from the heavily produced treatment we’re used to hearing with Marie’s voice... when I first heard the vocals, I was reminded of the New York Virgin Megastore performance from 2000, where the acoustics were great and you could really hear Marie’s powerful vocals.
Anyway, it’s maybe not a Gessle-smash but its a great song in its own right and I hope the album outsells “Finn Fem Fel” (-;

Great news! ... Don´t you think Marie looks a bit strange?

@ lucaino Don’t you think you would look strange if you had gone through what Marie has gone through... perhaps you should listen to the song AGAIN!! or even several times.... and make of note of what the lyrics REALLY MEAN!!

We always have very high expectations at the first single. Yes, when first listening, I don’t like the song that much.
But it’s very catchy, I had it in my mind after hearing. It’s a typical Marie song.
And now I listened to it in better quality (aftonbladet), and yeah, it’s much way better!
@lucaino
Yes, Marie looks a bit strange.
I was scared if I saw the picture of her visiting the Gyllene Tider Concert.
But we all know what she had been going through.
And the way she looks is not important at this point.
We can be happy, that she has recorded this new CD!
And I’m waiting for it and wish Marie all the best!

Yess, it’s right Marie looks a little strange but seems to be happy to be there ... I hope this album to be released worldwide (I know i say it much, but I’ve got to say that not only scandinavian people have to benefit of it.
The song, heu well ? don’t know ... let me hear it once again !!!
I agree with you T Rox, i don’t like it much at “the first sight” ... But let’s think that she has been ill for a long time ... and for a first one ... Looking forward for the other songs ...

I Finally heard the song. In Aftonbladet site is easy hearing. If the song is “like Free as a Bird”, the vocal is like “om di sag mej nu”!!!!! :D
Marie’s voice is great. It doesn’t matter if the song will not be top 20!!! Marie is so much alive. your voice is stronger than “I en tid so var ” songs. The song is great for me!
Marie is back! I and brazilians are your great fans.
Good luck!
Please, release the album in Brazil!!!!

Wow. I’m very happy to ear that voice again! We can really feel the emotions which inspired her to write this song: the love for her family... and for the life!
We love you Marie!
Vixzter said on September 29, 2004 05:36:
@konstpaus: i don’t think the general idea is to gain world numbers 1’s with a multi million selling single and album i think the point is just to release it! the fact that its coming out means its top of the charts in my eyes!
Music isn’t always about selling shed loads of copies (no matter what some ppls think)

@ thomasc: iTunes Germany has only the I En Tid Som Var and Het Vind albums for now. But in October iTunes Europe for the full continent will start, so there should be better coverage of Marie’s material!
