Hi all! Hi Vaxjoe! (where do u disapear to!!) I need your guys advice. I have been going out with my boyfriend for 6 months now. So on wednesday we are going to go for a drink at the bar where we first met. But I am wondering if i should get him a gift or make him something to celebrate our first six months. Any ideas? I was just thinking something small, what do you guys think????
Jud (moderator) said on June 13, 2006 05:01:
hahaha can u imagine, I also had the “I love Per” phase!! Was by the time all girls at school had their idols on their books/folders kind of “I love Tom Cruise” - I wondered why I was not interested in any, but I had Per all around to cover up I suppose.. ;) But then Sharon Stone came my way ;D
I realised/accepted it when I was 16-17.. I always thought Marie’s sexy but then I was too old to “be in love” with an artist, I still think she is sexy, as are Sharon or Angelina.

any good places in South Africa you guys could recommend? Apart from the standard tourist stuff, I’d like to have some fun there...
StillFar said on June 20, 2006 16:45:
I don’t know...clubs, beaches, anything really..I want to have a good time. I’ll be in Johannesburg for a couple of weeks and would like to travel around during my time off, so all suggestions are welcome.
FirstGirlOnTheMoon said on June 21, 2006 05:47:
@StillFar: You’d have a hard time finding beaches in (or even near) Jo’burg. But if you want to go clubbing, I can find out about some good places.
A good place to look for clubbing events is www.mrspencer.co.za
Good luck, and enjoy your visit to SA!
:)
natasha1 said on June 21, 2006 12:29:
@stillfar
if you are travelling you should look up www.couchsurfing.com
create a profile for yourself and you can stay with people all over the world for free as they will host you in their home and show you about. there is also a gay queer group you can join if you only want to stay with gay people - its flexible...
we will be couchsurfing around joburg for 3 months and also for about 2 weeks down in cape town...
if it sounds like your thing then give it a try...
otherwis happy travles
Claire said on June 22, 2006 09:12:

StillFar said on June 22, 2006 16:32:
Accommodation really isn’t a problem, as I will work in Joburg for a couple of months the client will take care of that . However , I’d like to hear about some cool places to visit (anywhere in SA really).

brentnewtown said on August 16, 2006 21:49:
No. The Australian federal government is really quite anti gay. A year or so ago legislation reaffirming marraige as between a man and woman was passed and just a few months ago the Australian Capital Territory (similar to a state but with less rights) passed civil union legislation but the federal government along with the Governor General (Queen’s representative) stepped in and overruled. Amazing that while many other countries are progressing in this regard Australia is going backwards. Sadly we have had a conversative federal government for around 10 years.
rox-kuryliw said on August 16, 2006 22:47:
doesnt Australia have a good gay population aswell there ? thats what iv been told by people that have been there.
coyboyusa said on August 17, 2006 01:07:
lol austrial was a penal colony inmates aren’t supposed to get married :)
brentnewtown said on August 17, 2006 07:42:
Sydney is renowned for having one of the largest gay and lesbian populations in the world and things were going well until our idiot prime minister was elected in the mid nineties.
His next plan is to introduce legislation that will outlaw gay people adopting kids from overseas.
Unfortuantely it seems that many Australians vote for what they see as what is in their own best financial interest and are not concerned with social issues.
But its 26 degrees C today in Sydney and its still winter so things aren’t all bad.

Benji101 said on March 23, 2008 01:30:
@bomkrask...dork! clever but, dork-“ish”!!! Don’t tell mamma! whoo hoo! I believe the real reason(s) why gay men appreciate Roxette’s music so much, is the fact that we yearn for a lot of the things Per has written about lyrically-though mostly focused towards straight couples–and how Marie expresses love, sorrow or combined, vocally. The lifestyle here in America; especially in Chicago, IL; has become a bit depressing “life-wise”. In the last 5-7 years, I’ve seen a big difference when coming to men being dedicated and hopeful in regards to living a fulfilling life w/ meaning and not meaningless sex and dis-trust with one another. Also, I do believe it’s because there is really no “opposite attraction” that equals out a couple like a man and woman has. Basically, we (gays) have to work 10 times harder–no pun intended–in order to at least be able to ’hopefully’ live a successful and loving relationship. And, still after a lot of hard work and getting past the vulnerability part, have an unlikely chance that a relationship will work. Not saying all but, a large percentage. Maybe schools should start considering homosexuality a bigger subject considering more and more young people come out every single day. This might also help with the acceptance and possibly preventing “coming-out” kids or adults; families and society as a whole need to be more educated as well; from a higher suicide rate because they don’t know how to handle those “different” feelings. Heck, they sometimes don’t even know why they are attracted to the same!?!.... Sorry, if I typed too much. Figured “we” might as well have an adult conversation about how we each look at this from all over the world... Cheers and Peace from an American Gay Fan of Roxette! ;oP”“”” Take care and Happy Easter to those who celebrate.
bomkrash_kix said on April 6, 2008 09:12:
hehe@benji wasnt trying to be to serious but i have also been to Chicago where there is two big main streets regarded as “boys town” full of gay life and venues.
What an exciting concept of acceptance and viberance.
Roxette have it all, The songs, the tunes, and especially the vocals.
spot on every song and a catalogue so expansive and thought provoking
its kinda rare that a band can swap vocalist and still carry themselves so well or even have two sides to songs but still have that conviction, never losing the power or message in their songs.
coyboyusa said on May 19, 2008 10:31:
nice to see this topic is still around...maybe some gay guys can answer me as to why gay guys have to be whores and have fears of commitment. I am just out of a 6 yr relationship with whom I thought was my soul mate but revealed to me hes been sleeping around the last 3 years while I work overnight shifts. I hate gay guys even tho I am one, sometimes they are as bad as str8 ones. :(
Benji101 said on May 19, 2008 15:47:
Firstly, and I hope this isn’t being too person but, I would definitely make sure, if ’he’ was sleeping around, that you take precautions with yourself to make sure you are healthy. It’s a real shame to read this but, in all reality, I really don’t think gay guys–when first acknowledging–are informed when they are younger in school. They have no guidance and parents seem to not know how to handle this subject as well. I know some high schools do have groups (LGBT) and attempt to help but, it’s not enough. And “yes”, straights and gays go through the same bullshit/drama. In regards to commitment, I do believe guys don’t use their ’right’ heads many many times. I ’try’ and live my life more as a straight person would without the drama etc.. Meaning, I don’t frequent clubs/pubs that ’host’ gays because that’s just a meat market and a lot of ’lost’ people looking for one thing and one thing only, meaningless sex. We all make mistakes and go through those experiences but, you need to collect the good things and disappointments in order to move on. I have way too many bitter/jaded friends that now see life with a grudge. I think if you socialize with others (straight friends) and attempt to be active in other ways like sports, hobbies, religion–if you have one– etc.. that will help keep you (in general terms, not personal towards you) and your mind off the things that only bring disappointment(s) So, what I do, is play basketball and pick up games at the park, go see live music with friends who are straight or gay, be around my family more and appreciate them, go mountain biking etc... anything to keep my mind off of going to a bar and being bored to death or being “hit on” by some drunk ’homo’ who has no idea what day or time it is. Society is excepting gay people more and more (little by little), but, it all takes time. And I truly believe you are not going to find a prospect companion when placing yourself in the bar scene or on some gay chat room. Sorry to hear about your ’experience’ but, you will move on and find someone special eventually, one who will appreciate you for who you are and someone you can grow old with. Keep your chin up!
natasha1 said on July 15, 2008 20:01:
hey, im a gay girl - and to be quite honest its not any better on the female gay scene - finding someone who will be true to you and respect you is not so easy either. i have finally found my soulmate and after 6 years together we will finally tie the knot legally in 2009. I just feel grateful that british society has moved on to allow us to do this. i firmly believe it is a right and not a privilidge to be able to marry the perosn you love.
I hoep you all find your soul mate eventually
