I am so glad to know that there are a lot of queer Roxette fans out there on the ’Net. I think I realized I was gay at a Roxette concert in 1992, I was 16, and to my surprise, I absolutely could not take my eyes off Marie the entire time. I mean, try as I might to look at Per, my eyes kept going back to Marie! Hoo hah. So Marie Fredriksson (or, at least the black vinyl catsuit she wore that glorious night) made me gay. I swear.
I share my Marie and Roxette passion with one of my best friends, he’s also gay and he too, prefers Marie over Per. Maybe it’s because it’s more fun to be a Drag Queen Marie cavorting on-stage, than to be a Drag King Per, with a guitar that restricts your movements. Oh well.

Gang murders of homosexuals are the work of disadvantaged young men who think they are enforcing mainstream society’s values, an Australian criminologist has found.
Stephen Tomsen, from the Australian Institute of Criminology, studied 74 gay murders in New South Wales over the past 20 years. The research reveals a pattern of brutal bashings of complete strangers in public places.
In an alternative scenario, the killers know the victim and attack in retaliation for a perceived sexual advance. Tomsen said a common link in gay bashing was the acting out of anti-gay attitudes.

But the ’scene’ and the attitude of people in the UK is generally excellent.

for those who like to read other people’s problems: Here are mine.
since long I gave up finding a boyfriend. I am 26 now, almost 27, and well.... never had love, never had a boyfriend nor a one night stand.
The only, final hope I had was a gay guy which I met in Internet 2 years ago (not a gay chat, rather a place like this one with a very tight and friendly international community). Even before we met irl, I felt that I like this guy very very much, but couldn’t define it as a crush or love somehow.
Then we finally met in real life a few weeks ago, he stayed at my place for a couple of days.
He was even more lovely than what I would have expected. I felt the urge to hug him, hold him, give him all my love, though I was not “In love” with him, neither had I any sexual feeling towards him. Does anyone understand that?! I don’t!
I didn’t do anything, because he is 8 years younger than me, and I didn’t want to scare him. I also didn’t want to risk our friendship.
Well, after he left again for meeting with other friends, I couldn’t hold back my tears in the train station. Yesterday, I finally admitted to myself, that I love him, without having had a crush or sexual feelings. As a friend? But it feels like more.
Then in the evening I found out, that he fell in love with another guy from our community, which is also a friend to me.
Now I feel a bit left alone, jealousy, though they are both my friends! And on the other side it’s just proven to me that my life will always stay “guaranteed lovefree”. He was my last hope, you know? Now I think I won’t be able to love anyone else again.... how ridiculous, but anyway, i hate it to be the loser all the time. At school parties back then I was the only one who didn’t have anyone to dance the last song with. Nowadays all my friends find love, but me... it feels like my friends leave me..... somehow I want to become a hermit or a munk, or never step out of my appartment again, I just want to have someone that is there for me, someone who is always close to me, and I don’t even think about love anymore, just a friend who stays my friend and not someone elses boyfriend. Actually my friends didn’t leave me really.... they still call me, but it feels like they left me, because someone else is more important now than me for them.
I don’t know what to do with this guy, I don’t know what to do with this friend of mine, I don’t know what to do in my life.....
I am not very attractive.... my friends say that it doesn’t count and that I have my qualities inside.... but who the fuck cares about that? Noone! I hate gay clubs and everything which has written “gay” on it........ I had my experiences in these communities and found out that I feel better, more respected and more familiar in the non-gay scene. That’s all I have to ad to this.

i felt so sad as i was reading your post...i know other ppl that have been in your situation and it seems that most of them “enter” themselves in such kind of situations...the other thing is that they never listen to any advice cause of their low self-esteem..

Another thing is that i’d suggest u keep away from internet relationships, usually they dont work...try the old-fashioned way...go out, meet someone, start dating etc.
I have to say that what happened with that guy was mostly your mistake! You say that the guy stayed at your place for 2days!!! What were you waiting for what were you thinking? You had him there in your territory and you did nothing so he probably thought that you didnt care about him and that you only wanted his friendship.
I think the 1st step you should take now is meet him and the other person that he fell for and since they re both your friends you can open up your heart and im sure they will listen...maybe this guy that u let go has feelings for you and since he thought that u dont care about him in a romantic way,decided to move on.
The excuse “i didnt do anything cause he was 8y younger” is at least childish...when 2ppl want the same thing it happens.
Another thing: u say at 1st ” i wasnt in love with him or had sexual feelings” and then
“i finally admitted to myself that i love him”
You are contradicting with yourself...one of these two sentences is a lie cause if u re in love with someone of course u wanna hug him kiss him and have sex...
About your friends: it was kinda selfish what u said ” it feels like they left me cause sum1 else is more important now than me for them”
Friends are always friends and they love u the same no matter what...of course they will have a bf oe a gf at some point but that doesnt mean that they love less than b4...so u have to reach out to them too,they still call u so try calling them too..
ok bout the appearence issue...some ppl its true they only go after looks but there are other ppl that care actually about who you are...
my advice is in general that u should be more outgoing..talk to your friends, express your feelings and listen what they have to say...dont stay locked in a nutshell believing false things before u get a chance to see whats really happening out there and not only whats in your mind!

We just clicked and it feel like we have known each other for ever! I was not into Queer As Folk Uk or Us version either, but last summer I saw a beautiful lesbian movie called When Night Is Falling. Love it! One of my fave movies from the moment I saw it. It´s from 1995.
It´s one of those non-so-commercial movies.

“When Night Is Falling” was a great Canadian film (hence the low-budget look :-)). Other gay movies to check out (not necessarily great ones) are Broken Hearts Club, The Hanging Garden, Better Than Chocolate and Desert Hearts. The first two movies are about gay men, the latter two about lesbians.
Another film you could check out is “I’m The One That I Want” which is Margaret Cho’s comedy act on film. She’s a real hoot. She’s not necessarily gay, but she is a “fag-hag” and is a great defender of our community.
