When reading scholarship, I thought for a moment that there was finally one for fans to be able to become full-time fans, lol!
(Yeah, my secret wishes give me away...)

Maybe I’m just being stupid, but i dont really get this story. Why are they giving Marie a ’grant’? Are grants not normally given to individuals who are struggling financially? What is this money for?

We haven’t been able to find out why Marie and the others have received grants, but I’d say it’s highly unlikely this is something she has applied for.

@ncurran: Well, in the academic world at least, grants are awarded on the basis of merit, not financial need - but people also have to *apply* for them, which is the part that confuses me - why would someone with the resources Marie has bother applying for a couple thousand SEK? Or is it more like a prize that talented artists are nominated for by someone else - like the Mercury Prize or Polaris Music Prize...??
Anyway... let’s hope Marie will use it to make a fantastic new album!!

The article doesn’t mention anything at all really.
Edit: According to SKAP’s website the grant receivers are decided by the board.

This is offensive! Unless Marie donates this to charity then she should be embarrassed by this prize. Accept the honour and please give the money to chairty or perhaps donate it to a Music School in Sweden. But to award Marie $40,000 is insane!
Like she needs it???
What a waste of money! Who are these morons giving bundles of cash to celebrities who don’t need it! What an idiotic scheme.

the grants cannot be applied for, according to SKAP website. They are given to people they think deserve it because of their career, achievements, etc. I think they also have other kind of grants, the ones one can apply for for special projects.
Why not? :-)
And if Marie donates money, she won’t tell. She’s said many times in the past she doesn’t want to shout it out loud.

Well then $6700 is even worse! And more the reason I am sure someone like Marie will donate that to charity!

don‘t you just love those who find negative comments about everything - what marie chooses to do with this grant is her business!!!

in this interview she mentions about charity stuff she does, and like I said, she doesn’t like to make publicity about it. Fine like this.
Engagerad i: Klimatfrågor och naturkatastrofer får henne att agera. “Det är en tuff tid vi lever i. Jag försöker göra mycket i det lilla, men det är inget jag vill basunera ut.”
