Marie drops lawsuit
Written by tevensso on February 27, 2006 to Marie Fredriksson.
STOCKHOLM (UPDATED) - According to a telegram in Aftonbladet today, Marie Fredriksson has, in agreement with Expressen, decided to drop the lawsuit.
The trial was supposed to be held on Wednesday, but is now cancelled according to Leif Silbersky, Marie’s attorney. “I neither want, nor can tell you why, but we’ve reached an agreement with Expressen on how to handle this,” Silbersky says.
Otto Sjöberg, editor-in-chief of Expressen, says that there exists no secret deal between the parts. “When Marie Fredriksson decided to not pursue her claim, Expressen chose not to demand compensation for its costs for the trial. That’s the whole deal between Marie Fredriksson and Expressen,” Sjöberg says in Expressen.
In a press release issued by Marie Fredriksson today she states that even though she’s free from the cancer and much stronger now, she feels that she doesn’t have enough strength to pursue a tedious legal process. Marie chooses instead to focus her energy on regaining her strength, recovering from her illness and her family and the present now.
TDR readers may recall that Expressen immediately published an apology when Marie Fredriksson reacted negatively to the original article.

Agree with Ebay... Marie’s not your typical Diva that would buldoze over the world; in her gentle way she made her point and i think she had no reason to continue this matter!! You GO! our beautiful Marie!!!

At least now she has shown to the press that she is not fair game. They should leave her alone, and only comment on what a beautiful positive person she is.

@natalee2508: Ofcourse they are allowed to write negative things aswell, if they are true. That’s what newspapers are there to do.

Yes...She is very busy finishing her solo-album and preparing herself for a Roxette period. I hope!

I think it was smart to drop it.
She’s recovering / recovered from a major illness. Stuff like this will only take the wind right out of your sails and exacerbate being sick. Granted, I doubt fighting a lawsuit will make cancer grow back, but it won’t help her body continue to rebuild / repair / regenerate.
Smart lady.
And Expressen may have “demanded compensation”, but in the US, if Marie had pursued it here, her lawyers could have stuck Expressen with the WHOLE BILL: Their fees / court costs, Expressen’s fees / court costs, and a few other things as well. Usually, that’s a judge’s decision on that matter, but in a case like this, the judge probably would have slapped Expressen with the bill to ALL legal fees.

they are preparing it for a long time(roxette’s comeback)...just like all their project being kept secret until they announce the releasing date...just look at mazarin and son of a plumber wich nobody expected that....

Spooks: I think the same thing may have happened here. I assume Expressen is just trying to save face somehow. Just guessing though.

I think Marie is smart not to stress herself, but I do think it’s a shame that Expressen has effectively gotten away with what they did to her.

I believe it’s a good decision. Concentrate on positive things Marie, concentrate on music! :-)

As someone who works in a judicial environment, I can fully understand why Marie would give up on these proceedings. Civil matters/lawsuits can go on and on and on causing pain and distress for everyone involved, often without a satisfactory outcome for either party.

It looks that Marie has some plans for the near future. Maybe there are some dates of ordering the studios. Maybe Marie or Roxette plans comeback to studios. This could be reason to drop lawsuit now, after 4 years. Dont you think?
