The single kicks ass in my opinion, very radio-friendly, up-to-date and it might hit big everywhere.
Can’t wait to wake up on Dec. 3 :-)

Ok, I surrender. “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On” is sweet with a charming Gessle voice. This is very Roxettish, I have the same positive feelings as when I’m listening to “Milk and Toast and Honey” but this is much sweeter, with some kind of reggae sounds in the chorus. And “Silly Really”.... is typical dancing song, but after 20 times of listening and after 2 glasses of wine you start to dance and love it. ;) Yes is for sure a party album. Very warm. Well it seems I will drink more often a mulled wine this winter. :)

I prefer the haunting “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On”. The “Silly Really” arrangement is a little annoying, imo. I can’t imagine myself playing it much often.

Silly Really sounds really good, it’s danceable synth pop but it doesn’t sound modern, but very very 70’s/80’s. I like this Per’s fast singing part and also middle8 (if it is) is great. Very radio friendly song and nice surprise for listeners. “Is this really this guy from Roxette?”
I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On has very nice melody but it’s too flat for me, sounds like a demo. And I also don’t like this ’ reagge’ feeling. This could be very good ’great ballad’ , but this version doesn’t work to me.
My opinion.

Hmm Silly Really sounds very familiar to some other song, but don´t know what song. Especially the refrain. It´s sounds really fresh, but im not sure if it will top the charts internationally, even will enter european charts. You know, it´s all about EMI. There are a few songs out there, that sounds almost the same. But it sounds good.
I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On should be recorded in a soap-style. Don´t like it with that beat and reggae.
But i like the new fresh sound from Gessle. He suprises us with almost every album. This could be a nice one too.
Roxvet said on October 23, 2008 13:38:
Silly Really sounds something between “STAYIN’ ALIVE” from Bee Gees and “SPEGELBOLL” from Mazarin album. (IMO)
But it’s great!!! It’s in my cellphone since a couple of minutes.

It reminds me a little of Jamelia’s Superstar - but Jeez - this is the best song Per has written in ages methings, modern and fresh...it suits his voice well... I can see me dancing to this after a few sneaky vodka and cokes, follwed by a few flaming Sambucas...just a normal Satruday night!
IDMTTYO is fine - a bit like I Want You To Know on TWATG...but not as good as Silly in my world...
Cheers Per! I can’t wait for a nice winter’s day for me to drop the hood on my convertible and blas this out to the world. lol

Lyrics...
Silly Really
You’d better get up and leave the neighbours singing
You’d better get up before you break some major law
You’re taking a walk and you just hear some screaming or is it just the tyres of a car
You know you’ve been through this before she knocked on your door, she knocked on the door
If you think about it’s silly really
When you thinking about it even less you seem to know
If you think about it’s silly really
When you’re talking about it even less you seem to know
It’s so silly silly silly so silly silly silly
You’d better get up and get something going
You’d better get up because you might might get misled
It’s all a mistake unless I’m much mistaken
You got to get up and get the girl out of your head
She’s moving right through to your bed, right through to your bed, right through to your bed
If you think about it’s silly really
When you thinking about it even less you seem to know
If you think about it’s silly really
When you’re talking about it even less you seem to know
It’s so silly silly silly so silly silly silly
When you’re thinking about it
When you’re talking about
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
It’s so silly, ahhhhhhh
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
If you think about it’s silly really
When you thinking about it even less you seem to know
If you think about it’s silly really
When you’re talking about it even less you seem to know
If you think about it’s silly really
When you thinking about it even less you seem to know
If you think about it’s silly really
When you’re talking about it even less you seem to know
It’s so silly silly silly so silly silly silly
If you think about it
If you think about it
It’s so silly
If you think about it
If you’re talking about it
So silly silly silly
If you think about it
If you talking about it
So silly silly silly

Silly Really is nice and its arrangment is really a bizarre. Really untypical choice for 2008. But the refrain sounds familiar to me, haven’t I heard this melody before? But it doesn’t matter, original melodies are very rare.
I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On (snippet) is strange, Per sings it like I-don’t-know-what, but I don’t like it... But I should wait for the whole song
7-Twenty-7 said on October 24, 2008 15:55:
The career of Per Gessle is getting to much eclectic or heterogeneous, if you know what I mean. He jumps from the nostalgia 60’s-flavoured stuff of SOAP to 80’s dancefloor synth-pop. I don’t know if that for good or for bad. “Silly Really” is not bad, but after a few listenings I got tired of it. It doesn’t bring me any special feeling. It’s radio-friendly, maybe. It could chart with some promotion, at least in Sweden. But it doesn’t have a soul, it’s just another little commercial pop song, like many others you can hear in the radio these days.
Frankly, would you be as much excited about this song if it was sung by anybody else? Magnus Carlsson, for example. Haha!

The thing is that I´ve enjoyed almost every song Per has made the last couple of years. This is the first time the song don´t move me and don´t get the really good feeling.
I was hoping that he was working on a rock n roll-album with a lot of guitars and a banging drums and I get this terrible -pop-song.
No words can describe how disapopointed I am.
Hope the rest of the album is listenable.
I wish I could feel the same feeling as when I heard Cmon and Jo-anna says for the first time 3 years ago “Ooh, I like it” but I have to be true to myself this is NOT good. Maybe good for the genre but the genre is not good.
Per is one of my heroes but this is a step in the wrong direction.

I had the same feelings as you on beggining, believe me, but....this is a party song. I was disappointed too, but....party is party, take some bottle of wine, call your friends and if you will drink enough than you will find this song interesting... maybe...Of course if you don’t like parties and dancing it will not help you... Well i don’t like big parties too but i like wine and dancing and it was enough to start to like this song. :-). But honesty i like much better “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On”. And on the end last words: Don’t forget that Mr. Gessle likes to make suprises and he likes experiments, he will never drown in the dance music, he is a child of rock and pop music. :)
whateveriam said on October 25, 2008 23:16:
I’m with hiowa on this. I don’t like it. I think it’s devoid of personality - which doesn’t make it a bad song, just means it doesn’t sound very Per-like. It’s not to do with the shift in style either, I like the shift in style (though the intro is ripping off a girlband ripping off/sampling Yazoo/Yaz). It has some promise. But the sum of its parts just doesn’t do it. Perhaps this was one for the scrap pile he couldn’t quite leave alone.
But what difference does me saying this make? I expect I’ll be told I’m wrong, and I should give it another try. Well, tough - I’ve given it enough opportunities and it failed epically. However, with the delusion of certain fans, Per could put out any crap and you’d buy it and say it was the bestest (it’s ’greatest’ or ’best’ morons!) song EVER!! Which hopefully makes you all happy, and Per money. Everybody wins!
abysmo said on October 25, 2008 23:23:
@hiowa: Sorry, but Gessle always did POP music, not rock’ n’ roll. Sometimes with guitars, sometimes with synths, but POP music. He is not rocker, he is not rock’n’roller, he is making pure pop. For some 30 years.
Silly Really is pop, synth pop, maybe retro synth pop, maybe danceable pop. But it’ s the first song since En sten vid en sjö i en skog with some drive, with energy. First song with popy melodies and with great arrangies and ’overproduced’ sound. This is more Gessleish than Mazarin, SOAP and EHM which was too much soft, too much folky, too much 60’s. Silly Really is how would Roxette sounds nowadays, Silly Really is very Roxettish. It’ s definively not step in the wrong direction, believe me, we’ll see this song on the charts doing well.
BTW I felt the same you’ re feeling now 5,5 and 3 years ago when I heard Mazarin and SOAP for the first time.

Well, I thinks is not going to be “rock” songs in this album. No rock drums. If I’m not wrong, per told something like all the drums in this album where loops or synthesizer drums.
So I think there wont be drums like in 7twenty7 demo for example.
But hey!!!!!! There are guitars in Silly Really!!!! And they are very crashing!!! (You can hear them from 0:29 to 0:47 at your left stereo speaker, and later more times in the song) I love them!!! I wonder how to get this sound with my guitar (It’s the so particular roxette’s guitar sound)
If anybody know how to get this sound, please, contact with me.!!!

I´m so glad that Per releases this Party album, because now he has reached the lowest level in his songwriting carrer imo ! The next album will be great after this. Don´t get me wrong, I´m stil a great fan of his music and his talents, but it seems to me, that Per has lost his direction. He is not longer ahead of all the styles and coming waves in music bizz, in the last times, he was most of the times a step behind the developements. That´s why his new stuff sounds a bit unmodern and old fashioned. If you want to create something really new, change all the old circumstances. Change the studio, change the producere, change the other musicans. Remember how the great ROX story started? He was tired of being one of a thousand swedish music acts, he wanted the world, wrote new songs and started with Clarence as the producer, Marie as the main singer, a hot band behind him! But now the same old story over and over again. But with his great output in writing songs, I´m quite sure he will find his own way back again and surprise us in a much more positive way!
7-Twenty-7 said on October 26, 2008 18:20:
Rousseau, there’s nothing new to invent in music anymore. Any song you hear in the radio or anywhere else these days it’s just a recycling of old tendencies, trends and genres. Like some say, “there’s nothing new under the sun”.
In a way, you pretend he was “ahead of all the styles”, but that’s not true. Even when “The Look” and “Listen To Your Heart” topped the charts in the US, those songs were nothing revolutionary or new either. It was pure luck, it was not the songs were exceptional. It was mainstream 80’s pop after all. As simple as that.
We don’t have to put so much pressure on the Per’s shoulders. He’s not able to create anything new, because nobody else can! I don’t think a change of producer, backing singers, studio or musicians would make a difference.
For those who said this song is similar to “4 Minutes”... you couldn’t be more wrong, That song has a R&B feeling that you can’t hear in “Silly Really”. Come on!

Sorry 7-Twenty-7, but music is a living progress, it changes everytime, right now and tomorrow. The main problem is, that the most radio stations just play “middle of the road” stuff, so you just don´t have the choice to discover new forms, new bands and artists, but that´s another story! And if you see “The Look” in the context of the fading 80s, it was miles ahead and not just mainstream 80s pop. There will always be artists, who will create new amazing music, if it was not so, where would we be, what did Mozart, Stockhofen, The Beatles, The Sex Pistols, Abba, Can, The Talking Heads do? Did they all play the old stuff or were they creating something new? The notes were just the same, it needs special people and magical moments to create something great.I don´t think that Per can compose a new masterpiece everytime he takes his guitar or the piano, nobody can do this, but to go back in time (SOAP, the 70s and now Disco Style, the 80s) is not very exciting, I now, he can do more than that! And I´m sure he will!!!!

Joj, joj, joj....poor Per always under the pressure....Let’s stop and think a little my dears, Per is a musican not our friend who is making music only for us and according to our wishes because than he will have to make 100 or more different albums in one year. Music is a business and his job, right? Right. Let’s try to think a little bit more wider. He lives from music, ok not only but it’s one of his income. He has to sell it and he has to think how to do it that EMI would buy it and radio will want to play it, etc. Is not made for fans is made to bring success and money (and fun for me :D). We should be happy that Per made new album, I am very happy of this. It’s quite normal that not everyone will like it. But it has not a big sense to say it’s bad or good. Maybe someone who never heard about Per Gessle will discover his new style of music and will find it the best ever?! So enjoy his music. I have never enough and you? :)

Rousseau, if Per is not up to your expectations, move to Mozart, Stockhofen, The Beatles, The Sex Pistols, Abba, Can, and The Talking Heads then! In addition, you cannnot mix classic music (Mozart) with popular music, like The Beatles. By the way, if “new” means weird stuff like was Björk in the 90’s... I still prefer the “middle of the road” Per, sorry.

I´m sorry that you didn´t understand me 7-20-7, I meant the developement of music through the ages and I never wanted to compare classical with modern music! I´m glad that even Per did some “weired” stuff in his carrer and not only MOTR music. For example “I love the sound of crashing guitars”, “Timmar av iver” “Ronnie Lane” “I have a party in my head” “Ande i en flaska”, Great weired stuff!!! Think big!

I am listening Silly Really again and again, I heard it some 50 times, maybe more. It’s great drivin’ pop song, this is music, which Per can do the best. This is kind of music (Silly Really, One Wish, Something In The System demo, Opportunity Nox, Little Miss Sorrow) which caused why I started listen Roxette. Strong melody, drivin’ pumpin’ beat, maximalized sound effects, multiple vocals, fresh sound. So Silly Really is exactly what I was waiting for. :-D Thanks Per.

I am totally addicted to this song! Fresh to my ears .... in the sence something great and new to ear LOL Great mish mash of synth pop of the 80s with disco beat from the 70s ... and an amazing vocal performance and a smashing roxettish melody with a typical gessish lyric... I mean WHAAT else could we expect??? Awwwwwwwwwwwwwsome song!
Great soprano vocals by Helena by the way and perfect vocal harmonies! I still pretend it’s Marie instead ... nostalgia I know LOL
