HELSINKI (UPDATED) - Finnish pop group Nerdee is going to present a Roxette cover song concert this Thursday evening. The band will play at Semifinal Club, Helsinki at 22.30 local time. The tickets cost 6 Euros and are only available at door.
Nerdee has released two albums and several singles. The band’s line-up has changed many times since its formation in 1995, and only one of the members in the original group is still playing. Currently the band consists of five 23- to 25-year-old women.
Update: The set list of the concert was “June Afternoon” (+ “Wild Thing”!), “Fading Like A Flower”, “Crash! Boom! Bang!”, “The Big L”, “It Must Have Been Love”, “Joyride”, “Listen To Your Heart”, “Sleeping In My Car” and “Spending My Time” as encore. Also added a picture from the concert, contributed by Mikko Hänninen.

So what do you want to know?
The band played in a tiny club called Semifinal behind the bigger Tavastia club where Per performed during the Mazarin tour. The set was quite short, but it was nice to see and hear a band that plays Roxette seriously - all too often Roxette cover versions are either parodies or stupid dance remixes.
All in all the gig was very fun. The arrangements differed from Roxette’s, but I guess that’s the very idea of cover songs. For example, in FLAF the piano solo in the beginning of the song was played on bass by the guest bassist Louis (although this happened after the keyboard player had said “how did this song go?” in the microphone by mistake...). The bass player also sang Per’s parts in many of the songs and to admit, his voice was better than the petite voice of Nerdee’s vocalist. The band also had a guest guitarist in Joyride and Listen To Your Heart.
Here’s the set list:
1. June Afternoon (+ Wild Thing, it was a great combination!)
2. Fading Like A Flower
3. Crash! Boom! Bang!
4. The Big L
5. It Must Have Been Love
6. Joyride
7. Listen To Your Heart
8. Sleeping In My Car
9. Spending My Time (encore)
I didn’t have a camera with me, but the webmaster of the Nerdee site says on their discussion forum that he will post photos later.
