Medals for Per & Marie

Regarding the medals which Per and Marie received last year from the King of Sweden, in the news article ( http://www2.dailyroxette.com/article.php/1161 ) it is designated as “King’s Medal of the Eighth Size with Royal Blue Ribbon”, so, I was wondering how this medal is designated originally in Swedish, anyone who can help?... Thank you. :)

Thank you, tevensso. :) Then again... I wonder if I may extend my curiosity a bit further?... (I’d enjoy learning more.) For instance, is this distinction presented every year?... And, whose decision is it, as to who is to be distinguished by this award?... Thank you, once more. :)
BTW, does “H.M.” (as you wrote above) stand for the equivalent in Swedish to “His Majesty” (and, if so, how is that to be said in Swedish)?...

Also, quoting the news article, it is mentioned that “While this particular medal is usually given out to athletes who have outdone themselves in any area, this year it is given to performers, actors, directors and such.”, which has me wondering, whether this medal had ever before been awarded to other individualities other than athletes, or has this been the first occasion that such has happened?...
Again, thank you. (And sorry for all the Q’s!) :)

“H.M KONUNGENS MEDALJ” stands for “His Majesty the kings medal”.
H.M is indeed His Majesty, and in Swedish it is “Hans Majestät”
