birthday songs

I was thinking of making a compilation cd for a birthday...finding songs that are birthdayish, yet not cheesy ’it’s your birthday’ is difficult. Any thoughts? Ideas? Or is it pretty much impossible?

How about “Birthday Boy” by the Pet Shop Boys (Release cd)? Kind of subdued but I like it.

The Beatles - Birthday
You say it’s your birthday
It’s my birthday too–yeah
They say it’s your birthday
We’re gonna have a good time
I’m glad it’s your birthday
Happy birthday to you.
Yes we’re going to a party party
Yes we’re going to a party party
Yes we’re going to a party party.
I would like you to dance–Birthday
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance-Birthday
I would like you to dance–Birthday
Dance
You say it’s your birthday
Well it’s my birthday too–yeah
You say it’s your birthday
We’re gonna have a good time
I’m glad it’s your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

Happy Birthday by Concrete Blonde. Not the least bit sentimental or cheesy.
Well, outside in the hall
there’s a catfight, it’s just after midnight. . .
guess it’ll be alright.
Laying out on the floor,
drunk and poor. . .
How much longer, how much more?
Aw—Rock me to sleep, strong and deep.
Screaming cats they give me the creeps,
But aside form all that I feel no pain,
staring up at the ceiling stain.
Neon in the window
sirens far away,
news on the raido. . .
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday.
They’re at it again next door;
This whole floor I swear they’re out to drive me crazy.
But not right now, I’m high as a cloud
I’m soft and grey and lazy.
Smoking out the window
feeling far away.
News on the raido. . .
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday.
Fly me out the window
somewhere far away.
News on the raido. . .
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday. . .
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday.
