Don’t really buy that many soundtracks anymore, but when I did, I tended to the orchestral in that respect. I loved The Adventures of Baron Munchausen way back when. And Ghost Story is atmospheric perfection. Eurythmics’s 1984. . .
Peter Gabriel’s Rabbit Proof Fence is as beautiful and etherial as the film itself.
The English Patient was great too.
I have a John Williams compilation that’s good as well.
Michael Nyman’s work for Carrington is phenominal. Also, there’s a great disc of suites from his film work that’s brilliant as well (The Cook, the Thief, his Wife & Her Lover, Drowning By Numbers, The Draughtsman’s Contract, Propspero’s Books), and I bought a two disc set of themes and music from films (Gattica, The Piano, etc.). More like Contemporary Classical. An acquired tase, to be sure, but it crawls in your head and just lives there.
And Sergi Prokofiev is always worth your time—Ivan The Terible, Alexander Nevsky for films—but the other work never fails to effect me in one way or another.

Yeah Pulp Fiction is great indeed.
MiracleMan: Do you like the Piano’s ST? I believe Michael Nyman is amazing. I remember in Real World San Fransisco where Pedro Zamora died of AIDS, they played nyman’s song and it just moved me. It literally brought tears to my eyes.

Damineh—I had the Piano Soundtrack, but someone scratched it—ATLTK, a mystery for you to start a thread with—and I likes it. Nyman is deceptively repetitive on the first listen, but, like with Carrington and some of the tracks from the The Essential Michael Nyman Band, the ear begins to pick out subtle shifts in who has the melody, etc. It’s hypnotic.
I cannot recommend Carrington soundtrack enough. The first track is the one that can shatter me if I’m in that mood. Well worth the pence.
