I’ve got a great idea and would like You to seriously consider it. How about making a contest for the best song written for Roxette by a fan? It would be cool to show the world how creative Roxfans can be and I think it would be the greatest award for any fan to hear his/her song preformed/recorded by Roxette. (The eventual legal problems shouldn’t be an issue with an adequate submisson form).

I think that Per & Marie more than a zillion times proved they love to try different things. I’m not talking about the whole LP with songs written by fans, but maybe a bonus CD attached to the next Roxette’s album. They could do something like a contest for the best “fansong” ;-).

Don’t missunderstand me, it’s a great idea but I think it can’t be realized.

I do already two songs for Roxette, one to Marie (I sent it to her) and the other one, one week ago, I have still to write the lyric.
When you want to put the words over the song, you can do it with the Music Programm and Mic.
Anyway, if you play it with the piano and record on a tape, will be great.
But the probability they produce it, is low. (I think)

I thought it should be an official competition between the fans. And the winner is selected by Roxette and then they will produce the song.

Hmmm...You know that “powers that be” ;-) read this board from time to time. The thing is we (fans) have to express our interest in such a contest.
There are many people among us who write songs (or melodies or poetry or lyrics). I bet Roxette’s fans are very talented folks as regards to music&poetry. Why am I so sure? Because they have great ’teachers’ !
I do believe that if we express clearly and loud enough our interest in such an idea, it could happen.
And – just imagine - how cool it could be for Marie and Per to get those songs!!! Songs from different parts of the world. The fruits of high admiration to Roxette. Pearls of Inspiration. I – as a roxfan - always wanted to give back something to Roxette for all those good vibes they were giving me all those years. I think that’s a feeling of many fans.

Ya know what?? BAD idea!! Sorry. I love Roxette cuz of Per’s songwriting, mainly, and the beauty of it is they’ve NEVER done songs by outside songwriters!! The closest was YDUM which was co-written by Per + Desmond Child, but Per had to be a part of the song.
The closest thing I would accept and would be really cool would be a fan-written song produced by the Rox camp, aka Clarence, Anders, Per, Marie, Mats, and have Per + Marie be the judge of the best-written song.

There should be a contest among fans. The best song(s) should be produced and recorded by roxette. I don’t think the singles should be released as official roxette singles. It could just be a song (or two) written by fans, recorded by roxette - for roxette fans - to cherish forever. That would be sooo neat. (Damn I wish I could write songs!!..)

YES!! That’s a better idea!! My friend Static, in the UK, he manages/works with a girlband called Planet Of Women, and they did a tribute song to Cheap Trick, called “Surrender To Cheap Trick”, and it’s BRILLIANT!! The lyrics are CT song titles.
We could put out that Rox tribute track called “Abandoned (By EMI)”, and have the lyrics be all Rox song titles + key lyrics!! But we’d have to think of a group name...

It could be done, but not “joining together”. I don’t believe in collaborations so much for composing songs. A song is something very personal and joining with just “someone” for doing one, well, for me it loses all it’s sense, all the magic, all the art of composing.
It’s like the difference between being cooking a cake for 2 hours for your girlfriend and working at McDonalds...

Let’s have a contest. Make a web-page (maybe we could use fanism.org) where the songwriters among us can add their song. The contest should be open for any kind of song. Let the Rox-fans vote for their favourite and then ask P&M if they would like to record the song as a gesture to their fans.

As a part of the old Fanism project I have to say: YES! I would love to write a song for a Roxette album AND a tribute song to Roxette... The tribute is already written, I’ve worked with it for a couple of weeks and I’m going to arrange it during the summer! The hardest work is propably to find a studio where I can record it... You know, all these strings... =)

i don’t see any problems with it. for example you could write in a submission form that anyone who would like to take a part in the contest has to give away her/his copyrights to Per’s record company. it should stop any legal problems for per.

It’s not about the Roxmixes made by fans. Far from this. It’s about a contest for the best NEW song written by a fan for Roxette.
And it’s not about prizes, money and such things. The prize would be Roxette recording this song. I would prefer to hear M&P sing my song than get 100 000 dead Washingtons if You ask me.
And for all those self developed law experts;-) here. It’s easy to prepare such a submission form for the contest which kills any “copyright danger” for Marie&Per.
