Madonna pulls new video

The video to American Life won’t be released, at least for now :(

Nooo!! How unfair! Since when has she given a damn about other people’s thoughts?!

huh what a disapointment!!

what do you mean? It has already been played on some music channels.

not anymore....and I thought she was the one who would have the ’balls’ to go through with it...too bad!

it was a April 1st joke

I hate the song and the video... too exagerated and the music itself is so weido... a mix of eletronic sounds with hip-hop is that what Madonna was trying to do?

I love, love, love the song! Too bad I didn’t get to see the video...I just love Jonas’ work when he really DARES!

Well, I LOVE the song, it’s different and experimental but cool and has a good hook. I dig the arrangement too, clubby on the verses, mellow pop/modern rock on the choruses, with a hiphop break in the middle.

As for the video, never saw it, but too bad she pulled it; maybe it’ll see the light of day over the net or on a DVD release. I think she pulled it cuz of her calling the shots, before MTV/VH1 would get the chance to pull it.

Her choice, we should respect it...and yes, she is human, she’s married and has kids, why are you mad she has a conscience, shame on you...

i could download the video, just in case sb is interested :P

I’m interested? Do you have the link Judith?

it should be:

after seeing it i don’t understand why she pulled it, but well

she came to here sense i saw an interview with her on mtv this week she said that the element of war in the video didn’t fit with the message she was trying to convey in the song...and the fact that having the video banned by most channels would have hurt sales of the album probably had something to do with it

When countries are at war, the participating parties will always, it doesn’t matter the country, do things in a patriotic way to keep the country together and the support the war effort, especially the soldiers. In times of war, many things change concerning what’s appropriate to be said and waht’s not. Therefore, the fact that the video was pulled out and won’t be shown anymore, is a perfect example of the shift in behavior concerning what should be expressed. (Remember, she was the one who decided to pull it ou). Another example, is the fact that here in the USA you can constantly hear patriotic songs and songs that support the soldiers on radio stations. In Iraq it’s not different since religious songs and songs about the Iraq people and country are also being played. In times of war, the countries involved tend to strengthen the patriotic feeling among their people. (Here in the USA, at least in the area i live in, some people are flying again those US flags that you can attach to the car antennas just like it happened after 9/11).

Hope you guys understand what i tried to convey.

Take care friends.

I think I have seen it on TV!!! *maybe you mean for buying the CD huh??*

thanx Judith...well who cares if she released the video or not. She made a statement which could be heard everywhere in the world. Who or what changed her mind doesn’t really matter anymore!

I don’t think she pulled the video because of the bondage experience the americans is doing at the moment, I thinks she did it for business reasons. Look at what happened to the sales of the Dixie Chicks after the lead singer made that statement on stage. Their records sales dropped with 40% in the US and some radio stations refuse to play their songs now (In my opinion that it is a good thing, cos they sux...) I think Madonna canceled the release cos she was scared that Americans will refuse to buy the record and that the radio stations will refuse to play the song. It is quite sad and ironic if you think about it... that so called “freedom” the Americans fight for in the middle east are taken away from their own people in the process for them to “achieve” that goal! It is so sad. I hate war…. In the end of the day, they kill us all by killing the environment!

Judith -the video needs audio codec fromat tag 1,or something like that.. i only see the video–no sound– do you know where i can download the codec??

@geytenbeek: Interesting comment. However, why do you think that Americans wouldn’t buy the cd and the music channels wouldn’t play the video? The reason is the main cause she decided to pull out the video. As said above, in times of war, some kinds of freedom are relative.

Take care.

@ Carlos

I’m in the US at the moment, and everybody I spoke to about the Madonna video said that they will not support a artist making a statement like this in times like these. I had people telling me that they used to like the DC, but not anymore after the statement they made! I think this is very narrow minded as it is the music they are suppose to like, the artist is still a person in their own right with their own opinion… (I read the stats on the Dixie chicks in a news paper yesterday. ) I agree, that artist sometimes (mis)use their fame to make a statement, (the Oscars for example is not the place to talk about war …) But I Believe that they have the right to express their feelings and believes in their art (e.g. lyrics of a song, music video, painting, etc, etc). This is what make people free, the fact that you can voice your opinion and that other people can respect that, and you can respect the fact that the other person don’t agree with you. The moment you force your opinion onto somebody ells you take away their freedom!

Madonna said many times before that she is not anti America / bush, etc, but she is anti war. Therefore I feel that she needs the freedom to express this message, and America need to accept that she does not agree with this war (and any other war). It is not a personal thing on America, it is what she believe…

@geytenbeek: Yep. Friend, she’s the one who decided to pull it out. She could’ve let it be played. However, she decided not to play it because of the war sentiment. If this wasn’t a war time, she would have not pulled it out. Please understand that this happened because of the war time. Also, friend, i never said that artists are not allowed to express their feeling and opinions. If they couldn’t, then they’d not be artistis after all.

Take care!

well, here are my 2 cents. You can doubt the vocal & acting qualities of Madonna, but nobody can question what an amazing business woman Madonna is. To stay ’cool’ for such a long time is exceptional. It’s stated that the video has been planned for a couple of months. The war started two weeks ago. Now I understand that she wants to pull the video because of war, but, why didn’t she take the decision before the video has already been released.
First option, she wanted to make a statement, but didn’t want to ruin her career, so she pulled it off. Everybody will see the video because it’s online already, but she is still in a good position cause she doesn’t want to offend anyone and pulled it back.
Option two, she changed her mind after the video was released, for some surely very interesting reason....

Just for interest... anybody know if the video is available for download on the net somewhere. I really like Jonas work, and will therefore really like to see it.

@ Carlos, I know you did not say that artists are not allowed to express their opinion in their work. I’m just scared that the real reason why Madonna pulled the video was because of the public reaction on the whole DC thing, because if that is the case the public as a whole stopped her from voicing her two cents…

Actually while looking for the video I found a website (i dont remember which one now - and I am tired to look for it now, maybe tomorrow :)) made by a fan that has rare stuff for download - something like Roxbytes.

He recorded the video last Friday when it was premier on VH1 (I think) and made a digital version of it.

Somewhen after that he got an email from somebody at Warner demanding him to remove the video from his site and to send them any copy he might have of the video (???).

The guy replied that he copied the video - as many ppl - from the TV and that the tape is HIS. Then he said that he didn’t understand why all this fuzz around the video, it was released, and then “deleted”, so he was saying, in a way, that they can’t go to each fan’s house and steal every single tape where the video is in :DD So I guess that this is “bigger” than what we think.

I also guess that - as a mum to children she is and not knowing what future might bring - she prefers the “take it now before it’s too late”. She already expressed what she though - she is living in UK for some reason - people knows what she thinks, people talk and will talk of this video, it will be on the net, people will see it, I think people will now be even more interested - at least outside US - to see it, some / most Americans will be glad “our Maddy stands by our side” and using Per’s expression, “everybody will go home in a limousine”.

Once more, here we have controversial Maddy :)

Thank you, Judith, for posting the link!

I’ve got to say: I like the video - A LOT! I don’t know what Madonna wanted to say with it but it could express my point of view very well. I especially like the ending...Beautiful :)

besides since madonna has changed her religion isn’t the depiction of horrendous war related images against it? She is a person of values and oddly one of them is her religious convictions so ..well I guess that ,might be it as well since she doesn’t really need to worry about sales since her career has been buyoed on the gay community in the usa for the last decade
