do you play music?

I know you guys obviously enjoy music, but wondering do any of you play any instruments? I play drums and a bit of guitar.

If I start doing that, everybody will run away real fast!

Yeah yeah!!

I play guitar, then a little harmonica, a little keyboard, a little tambourine... :D

But my favourite thing is to compose :p

TAMBOURINE!!!! yaya!

I only know three chords in guitar :P

GUITAR,, and a little bit of everything

Yes.. I play Sitar . It’s a kind of traditional instrument.. I love music.
And also I play Keyboard.

i know a few chords and have two guitars : acoustic and electric one - and it seems to be enough to play rox songs and compose some new :)))

piano

There’s nothing more pure and genuine musically than playing a piano and a acoustic guitar... never get tired of that

I am a guitarrist. And I play a little bit the piano.

I played classical piano for 10 years. blah :P

yay! I bought my first harmonica today! I’m just figuring out how to play it. I can do happy birthday and 3 blind mice. also just made a wierd one up, but sounds kinda nice :) I need some practice i think. Oh yeh, forgot to say... I also play triangle (seriously) when i go to summer school!

I don’t PRACTICALLY play any instrument but virtually I can play everything. I compose my own full legnth tracks using my system. I use a LOT of softwares for that and in the end I guess the products are almost like Roxette music.

Zee

A synthetised sound never sounds as good as a real one... wake up!! It’s your music but it’s not “that good”! :D

santi I agree! but is the NEW Roxette music NOT synthesized? I am not saying MY MUSIC is good. I never do. Peope love it and that is what matters to me :)

BTW.. I am very jealous of you cuz u know how to play guitar!!!!! *kiddin!* Can u please tell me some good source on Internet to learn to play guitar??

i play piano, guitar, drums, but i do go to a music school so :-P lol*

I play piano and have done for 15 years!

Also took up playing the guitar when I was 10 but it was too much hassle as being left handed I kept smacking everyone with the guitar so it did not work out!!!

Actually, I kinda play bass!! Also a bit of guitar and a bit of keyboard. I REALLY want to compose my own songs, figure out how to make really cool little, catchy powerpop ditties, like Per and Santi do. I can’t figure out chords to save my life, I want to desperately understand, as I go “huh??” when I read tabs on songs!! And I know there are 2 melodies going on, the chordal melodies and the vocal melodies. I’d LOVE to figure out a way to make my own without sounding like a copycat. I have a guitar (a cheap electric Strat-like one) that a roommate of mine abandoned, so I got it for free. I just want to figure out composing and playing properly. Bass is easier, as single notes are played, and you just have to get a feel for it. Guitar is a whole other thing, more complex.

Santi, any tips??

Yes! I do play music!
I play professionally on metal triangle.
And a little on cymbals... just a little, guys :)

Hey guys we can make our own band here .... LOL

Learning bass guitar

I play piano. The reason I do this is that I wanted to learn to play the Roxette-notes I found in library :))))
I’ve had my own piano 3 years now and I really, really enjoy playing it.. of course I’d like to be better but I’m working on it all the time.

@Powerpoplarry: Tips... euh... sure :D Well, first of all everything can be learnt, so don’t desperate!! :p
The basics for composing is music theory. Buy a music theory book (not very dense) that introduces you into the learning of harmony. In my opinion harmony is the basic thing to learn, that is the relationships between chords. Well, if you play and construct your own bass lines you may have some little knowledge of harmony.
Then it’s just a matter of practising. It’s not a bad idea to find some educational resource to learn a little guitar. I compose a lot when I’m practising guitar, cuz I try things, and if they sound “characteristic” or special, or just good, I record them in a tape, for future re-listening and getting inspired.
But with this you can get or not get memories, that is the basis of your favourite genre that is powerpop. Maybe I can tell you what I done :) :
- I get inspired by any rhythm I hear. I mean, if you want to invent a melody you can do it many ways, but without a previous rhythm in my head, for me it will never sound pop. It will sound a cheap ballad. So for this I have various ways. My fav: I go for a walk, and the pace of my footsteps set the rhythm. From it I, mentally, invent a “sentence” of music notes that fit in. And repeat it, and I try variations on it. If I hear it’s nice then maybe I get inspired for something else. I usually never start with a chorus, though that would be the best thing to do, but well, it’s a matter of your method. Then, as soon as I get back home I sing it into the tape and record it.
Another way is listening to the radio or any song in a low volume or bad quality sound, so that the melody disappears :D It gives you another chance of getting a rhythm “for free” and try the same process over again. (I think I should make friends with a drummer :p).

Well, I have more “methods”, but let me know if this helped you :p

no need of a drumer friend :)

Cool, I added it to my favourites :D

Yes, I play music. I play the stereo =)

But honestly, I play the piano, write music and sing.

Won’t you even read it, larry? :s

Yes Santi, I read it, and I will try it. Sorry I took so long to post here, I was so wrapped up in posts regarding the war, and the brainwashing we have been under in the US!! Jeez, Bush is something else!! Soooo, I will look into books on harmony, as I can see it can help in composing, the relationship between vocal melody and choral melody...

I want to play piano one day
