The Ring Movie

......... I’m “NOT” talking about the second installment (The Two Towers) of the ’Lord of the Rings’ movie.
I’m talking about the scary movie called “The Ring” (starring Naomi Watts & Martin Henderson). It is a remake of a Japanese movie.
I thought the movie is really really really really scary!!! It is the scariest movie I’ve ever seen.
Has anyone here seen it??? If yes, what do you think of it?
shama said on December 27, 2002 14:05:
What is scarry is the Japanese version not American remake. Americans, except few exceptions, cannot make good movies. They’re good at making “loud” and over-commercialised movies. And that’s another proof of that.

Agree with Shama!!
u should see the original version!! japanese one!!! i’ve seen 3 series of the movies, The Ring, The Ring ’O’ Birthday(Prequel),The Ring2 (Sequel)..
Sadako Yamamura is so scarry!!!!!!!!!!!!

@shama and deja vu:
Yes!!! I saw the Japanese version as well. Both
“Ring” and “Ring2”. All of them are scary.
What are you all talking about? I thought the American remake is scary as well.
They are all scary.

@LittleSpooky:
Judging by your name I knew you would have loved it. I’m going to get the DVD as well when it comes out. I want to see if there are any deleted scenes or alternate endings or something.
It is the spookiest movie ever!!!

Okay, I just saw the movie, and it wasn’t too bad. It turned out to be a little scarey, but not too much really. I was just really confused on the ending. Are we too believe that the main Character ( forget her name) Was passed up from dying because she made a copy of the tape and had someone else watch it? It didn’t make that mucg sense to me..... Not a very good ending if you ask me. Let me know how you all interpreted the ending. :)
LittleSpooky said on March 13, 2003 03:28:
That’s what prevented the death of her and her son. Copying the movie and passing it on. However, it killed the father of her son, because he didn’t make the copy. Ending didn’t make much sense to me either, so I’m gonna pick it up to see it again.

In those context, I guess this movie would be considered as an extreme elaboration of the saying Misery Loves Company. hehe

For the people who didn’t get the ending:
The only way to get rid of the curse (not die after seven days) is to copy the movie and show it to someone else.
The heroine of the movie copied the video tape and showed it to her ex-boyfriend, unaware that it is the way to beat the curse.
When she found out about this in the end, she told her son to do the same thing. That’s the reason they were both saved.
... but the thing is, when you show the video tape to someone else, the exposure of the video will multiply... and of course as many people get to watch it, many people would be in danger.
If your loved one saw the video, of course you would instruct them to do the things that would save their life. When they make a copy and show it to someone else, this someone else will show it to another person, and this person will show it to another, and so on (... it’s like a ring.. it never ends), and in time you wouldn’t care about those other people that is going to see it.
This movie posed a very important question: Would you put other people at risk to save your own life, or just willingly die in seven days.. at least you feel that the curse ended with you???
If you also think about it, the only way to stop “The Ring” (passing it on and endangering someone) is to just willingly die.
That’s why I love this movie, not only is it scary but it also gives you something to think about.

LOL! I F!CKIN LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! I soooo wanna see the original Japanese movies.
Btw, I think the whole idea of the ending was that the audience will realise now that they saw the video cassette in full as well, and the only way to stay safe is to send some1 to see the movie as well.... well at least thats kinda like a spinoff concept I guess. Good marketing....lol!!! I was telling the bf this and he was like: thats so true! And this lady behind us heard this and told her husband, and the husband said: “I guess to stay safe we’ll have to tell our friends to come and see it!” LOL!!!! They were obviously only joking... ;o) But like I said, I think thats the whole hidden concept of the movie.....
Cheers

Thanks for explaining the ending... i didnt really get it. I’ve seen scarier movies tho...I LOVED when the girl comes out of the TV screen to kill the ex husband/bf. So this little girl was like evil or something? that’s why her mom killed her??
I watched this movie while flying, and in the worse 15 mins of turbulence I have ever been in. So I guess that’s why the scariness of the movie didn’t get to me coz I was too busy praying the plane wouldn’t fall out of the sky!!

I’ve seen it. But I have to say, I wasn’t at all scared by it! I think I have become immune to scary films!!
One bit did make my stomach turn a bit... but it was the only bit in the rest of the audience seemed to cope with!! (The girl coming out of the TV) That bit got me! LOL!
Yet the actual scary bits... Nope! LOL!

@Spooks! The two movies i’ll be getting also! ’The Ring’ and ’Ghost Ship’. I’m thinking of ordering them in from US as they are out WAY before the UK. ’The Ring’ is still in the cinemas here.
Also ’Two Weeks Notice’. Seen it twice now, and love every minute of it!

Found this on a DVD forum I belong too...
These are Easter Eggs(Hidden Extras) found on the rg1 DVD of ’The Ring’... Sounds BRILLIANT! You can’t stop it! Hehehehe!
On the Region 1 version of The Ring at the main menu you will find the video that is supposed to kill you 7 days later.
Go to the right side of the menu and press down on your remote until the cursor disappears and press play.
The best part is you cannot pause or stop it once it is started, ideal to scare the crap out of the unsuspecting especially when the phone rings on your rear speakers....
————————————
I found it too, if you press down after the cursor is resting on ’watch this’, the cursor vanishes, then just hit play.....
You can always cut the power if you can’t stop the scary video...or can you!
———————————–
did you notice after it stops playing you cant select anything on the main menu but in the background a phone is ringing?
go on I dare you to watch it
I did and that was about 8 days ago so ha ha I survived
