New Roxette album inspired by William Orbit
Written by roxeteer on August 25, 2000 to Misc.
Per says in FLT’s interview published in Hallandposten, that some of the songs recorded for the forthcoming Roxette album sound almost like those of the producer guru William Orbit. Orbit has worked with many top-selling artists, such as Madonna (“Ray of Light” album) and Melanie C (her solo debut “Northern Star”).
“There has been progress in that trend of pop music. Our producer Clarence Öfwerman is also very keen to it,” Per says, but continues: “Though [on our album] there will be a whole bunch guitars too.”
Per also talks about the coming US mini tour and the release of greatest hits album and radio single “Wish I Could Fly”. “Very many people call to the radio stations and ask for our songs, so I hope our compilation helps us to rise from death [in the US],” says Per.

EXACTLY my opinion!!! Dunno if “Things will never be the same again”(nice song) by Mel C is also by Orbit, but I really didnt like “Northern star” and Madonnas Ray of light album. Oh come on, Per, Brian Setzer made a big impression on you in the early 80’s...why not again NOW? Setzer is the “King of the Guitars”
.. Roxette with a big band ’d be a interesting experiment...and I’m sure even the most critic fan would like it!But that popshyte??? Please not!!!! ..Orbit is a nice bubblegum!!!!!!

i think we don’t have to worry about what Per says, before HAND was released he said that the songs where rocky and full of guitars sounding quite similar to his solo album “the world according...” remember? and what did we get? So I guess we’ll have to wait till we have the CD in our HiFI or we can hear some clips thru the net.

hmm. i like ray of light, the power of good bye, american pie and beautiful strangers but thats it.
well. roxette with some electro-sound effects in the background. fantastic (you know this part in the last middle in wish i could fly).
a good mix is “summer son” by texas. electro but cool guitars.
can you remember this project “dont give it up” by bryan adams. #1 in the uk. but this song wasnt that what i always liked on adams. so anyway.
roxette should think about, if they make their new album for the “old” fans or to design a new sound with (maybe !!) huge single sellings all over the world!
I wanna hear a new sleeping in my car or lies or reporter (from twatg). guitars for airguitarplaying ;o)
Another compromise would be. to release 2 versions of a song on the single and the radio-programmers can choose. like on “thursdays child” by david bowie. a rock and a slow-dance version for example.
turn to you from mel c is a perfect song for summer/bar-b-q parties (like mine one yesterday)! so, turn on the bass and the guitars, hard drum and little electro-pop in the back. but i think this was also the recipe for the world according to gessle, isnt it?
anyway. stay tuned and n.joy the summer (the last bits...)

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOU TALKING ABOUT!????
i do not have any of his cds but i consider Orbit a pioneer of new sounds and music. His work with artists like madonna, blur (and blur’s album is not bubblegum at all, but LOTS of guitars) and even mel c has brought them a fresh new sound that critics, media and people liked and were eager to hear.
i’ve been a roxette fan since their very beginning and i absolutely love their music, but i realized that times have changed, sounds have changed, and music have changed. look for example madoona: why do you think she’s been around for over 20 years? not a single album of hers sounds alike, she kept changing and evolving.
i am not saying that roxette should have done the same thing because the change in someone’s music has to come within that someone’s self. however, i think that if they are ready for a change, for something new (that at the same time is the new kind of sounds that people want to hear and people like) we, all roxette’s fans, should be supportive and not stupidly childish and selfish (like some of the messages i read). roxette is doing music, period. this thing about fans being used to the way they’ve been sounding therefore a change is a dissapointment is the most moronic selfish thing i have ever heard. PER AND MARY ARE ARTISTS; LET THEM EXPRESS THEMSELVES WITH THE KIND OF SOUND AND MUSIC THEY CHOOSE TO PLAY.

If Orbit wrote “Song 2” for Blur, I’d say OK...but in any other case P&M scare the shit outta me with that Orbit-thing...
