rox fans fighting over ace of base fans
sonofagun said on July 26, 2002 05:50:
In my opinion, both have achieved international success. U can’t really compared between these two acts coz roxette is influenced by pop/rock sound while AOB in a dance pop act. So, these two acts have got their own fans, and i know that there r rox fans out there that also like to hear Aob and same goes to the Aob fans. I do believe that roxette and Aob respect each other as an artist/musician/songwriter. they should be proud of making sweden on top of the world! So to all swedish people, love them coz they’ve made your country proud!!
p/s I wish that roxette or aob is from Malaysia.....

Who can tell me about the meaning of “Ace Of Base”?
Is it just a name or it has a meaning?
I know the meaning of Ace and also Base. But what does Ace of Base mean?
AntiMario said on July 26, 2002 09:06:
“Ace” is ace in cards (the highest playing card in some games). “Base” means the leading suit that can beat any card of the three remained “non-base”
So actually “Ace Of Base” here is the strongest card :)
MARLOUS said on July 26, 2002 10:36:
ace of base means:
ulf explained it as
they are the aces (highest cart)
in their base( the studio)
so ace of base
and it sounds good to, haha
Nefatari said on July 26, 2002 10:47:
Before Ace of Base there was Roxette (and still is), and before that Europe, and before that ABBA.
And what about KENT or Eskobar?? Lots of European people know all those bands .. so you can say, Sweden has a fantastic musical “industry”.
And noone knows any Austrian musician, except Mozart or Falco, and both are dead.
Would love to have such great musicians in Austria as they are existing in Sweden.
gyllene_tjej said on July 26, 2002 12:28:
@Nefatari: I absolutely agree about Swedens music potential. It is great, soooo many guys that I love here... Martin, Patrik, Winnerbäck...to mention just some. :)

Jud (moderator) said on July 29, 2002 06:39:
i think at Sveriges Radio you can see the charts...
then to channel P3 Topplistan: http://www.sr.se/p3/listor/glf/2002/
and choose the date.. :)
is this what you were looking for?
temps-daurats said on July 29, 2002 14:49:
sonofagun... you also forgot the best, the first, the summer song magicians...
... YOU FORGOT GYLLENE TIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
temps-daurats said on July 29, 2002 15:03:
What Judith said is the URL to the single charts (I think) by the Swedish National Radio. There are others, here you are the Aftonbladet (A Göteborg’s daily newspaper) link to the single, albums, dance and whatever charts:
http://www.aftonbladet.se/noje/topplistor/topplistor.html
In the single’s charts you can listen to the songs clicking the Real Audio icon.
Here you get the album charts just for Swedish artists: http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/noje/listor/hitlistan/svensk
In Aftonbladet also works Per Bjurman, that is a critic that more or less hates Roxette.
Jud (moderator) said on July 29, 2002 15:21:
well in the SR you can also find the album, compilations and 2001 ones:
Where it says “Gå till:” (go to)
Singel - single
Album - album
Samling - compilation
Info - information about the lists, which are the official ones.
2001 - top lists from 2001
Topplistor - shows you what daily programmes go thru the lists
p3 - info about the channel.
Jud (moderator) said on July 29, 2002 15:24:
once you have clicked on one week, you also have the option to see the album / compilation/ single charts from there (links are beside the Section Title and date)
Aftonbladet shows more lists, like Schlager and jazz ones :)
So you choose what you want :)
sonofagun said on July 30, 2002 03:15:
thans very much my friends....its good to know that you’ve helped me to find sites for the swedish albums and singles..i thank u again..
temps-daurats said on July 30, 2002 21:38:
Here http://www.lanet.lv/misc/charts/ you can find links to charts in almost any country of this planet you can imagine... well, it’s not there Trinidad and Tobago, China, Mongolia, Cameroun, Tonga or Pakistan. But most countries are there. Have a nice time exploring the world!!!
Schmocko said on July 30, 2002 21:42:
Sonofagun>>I agree, both groups mentioned that in interviews. And you shouldn’t forget that Roxette congratulated AOB when they reached number one in the US (if you don’t know about it, I have a copy of the original message)
sonofagun said on July 31, 2002 02:32:
temp daurats, i thank u very much for giving me the site add. Schmoko, could u please give me the message where roxette congratulated aob?.. thanx for joinin my discussion. Hope to hear from you soon.

@sonofagun - What? A Swedish music favorite list without ABBA? WoW... (in utter shock). I like most of the ones you did list though.
@Nefatari - regarding your Austrian musician comment, “Mozart & Falco and they’re dead”... ROFL!!! I seriously almost lost it when I heard that. It’s really too bad about Falco though. I liked that guy a lot and own several of his CD’s.
Oh... and what about E-type? he’s gotta be on a best of Swedish music list!
sonofagun said on August 1, 2002 02:52:
calm down PerFanatic. of course ABBA is the legendary artist in Sweden. BUt as u know, i only have a few mintues of typing the swedish artist lists , and in that very short period of time, I can only type a few. We’re humans right! But i thank u anyway for reminding me about that!!! Thanx again. By the way, I loveEEEEE the new single by KENT, KARLEKENS VANTAR. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE MEANING?
ROXTEXANET, THAN FOR GIVING ME THE OFFICIAL SITE. I OWE U ONE!!!
Sarah-P said on August 1, 2002 10:30:
@sonofagun: Great to see Robyn in your list too, I just love her!!!
I heard she was supposed to finally come with a new single in the end of july, but unfortunately thats all I know, cant find anything else than the title ’Dont stop the music’
Oh and about Rox-AOB, in this Duthc music magazine there was an article once about Per and Jonas(?) having a BIIIG fight at the 1st MTV European Music Awards in Berlin, it said that bodyguards had to get the 2 from each other!
Never really believed that story though, but the truth is that Per did say something about AOB doing a playback performance there at a press conference....
Schmocko said on August 1, 2002 12:42:
Sarah>>I have that article, too. But I have later another one where Per sais that he had trouble with MTV not with AOB cuz MTV didn’t allow them to play playback but they allowed it AOB. The end was that AOB played live, too.
Because of this Aftonbladet or Expressen organized a meeting between Jonas and Per (they haven’t met before). I have it, but only in German...

Hi !
I am planning to translate Ace Of Bae lyrics from English into my language in a book.
I got all the lyrics from net but I have difficulty understanding the meaning of some sentences and the concept.
I wonder if you would let me know where I can get help from.
Thank you !

No don’t do this! Why the hell do we have to put Roxette against any other gruoup all the time? Please enough is enough... Roxette are a wonderful group for all of us ..but it’s a very nice thing to keep the respet for all those who love other bands like AOB or ABBA ..cause we also would like to be respected as welll... don’t do to others what you wouldn’t like to see done to you...OK?
First of all respect towards all music tastes and free room to all kinds of music regardless the style or popularity...
DaminehGessle said on October 13, 2003 16:42:
I don’t say this because I am a Roxette fan, but wherever they talk about Swedish bands (including a show on CNN), they say roxette over-sold Abba in fame and albums. ABBA is more known to people because back in their time, there were not many bands like them.
daniel_alv said on October 13, 2003 23:56:
Swedish biggest:
1. ABBA
2. Roxette
3. Ace of Base
4. Cardigans
5. A-teens
That’s the Swedish export top 5
daniel_alv said on October 14, 2003 00:00:
Roxette is the band from Sweden that had the biggest success in the US, no other Swede has ever had 4 US no. 1’s... Not even ABBA.... It’s accually only Roxette, ABBA and Björn Skifs that have done that... and also a songwriter (don’t know his name) has written one of Aguileras songs that was no. 1....
But ABBA has sold 350 000 000 albums, and Rox only 40 000 000....
acerdom said on October 14, 2003 10:29:
Sonofagun: I agree with you...
As far as I know, when Per&Marie were recording HAND in Marbella, Ulf (Ace Of Base´s blonde guy) invited them to a party in his house of Marbella.
I read that info in a rox-review.
So if they´re friends, with not the fans? I love both bands...
Certainly, as Marlous told, Ace Of Base means:
“Kings (aces) of the studio (even dancefloor)”
coyboyusa said on October 14, 2003 12:03:
ok dont get me wrong i liek ace of base
but alot of people hate them because very rarely do they try to escape their abba likeness.
the sign was a white reggae album
the bridge was their best album only because the girls in the group wrote alot of the best songs on it
but by the time flowers rolled out the only songs that became hits off the disc were ones either written by other artists or prodouced by the famous clive davis wwhom by the way was the sole reason they got resigned after they put out their poorly planned greatest hits album. Then of course da capo who’s only worthwhile song unspeakable got secondbilling as a single and thusly went nowhere. the rest of the album could be chalked up as all those horrible abba songs u skippoed on their albums to get to the better songs
Sascha said on October 14, 2003 14:35:
Before the release I was quite interested how AOB’s new album would turn out, but “Da Capo” was a major disappointment! So flat and roundwashed by douzens of different producers... I think they really lost it, the group doesn’t seem to be motivated anymore. Only real stand-out song is “Hey Darling”.
temps-daurats said on July 26, 2002 06:45:
Whatever you say Sweden in the music world was placed by ABBA, not Ace of Base or even Roxette.
