“Per Gessle” 25 years old

Written by tevensso on April 8, 2008 to .

Per GesslePer GessleToday the album "Per Gessle" turns 25 years old! The album, which was at first supposed to be called "Syrenernas tid" ("Age of the Lilacs"), was released 25 years ago today, on April 8, 1983.

Per tells us that he started recording this album right after "Puls" when the other four in Gyllene Tider were drafted for the army. "I remember I didn't really get along with my high voice so I set all the songs in keys too low (to get a 'deeper' voice). This is/was a big mistake. Some songs, for example 'Syrenernas tid' would have been much better with some sharper vocals."

Per isn't really happy with the sleeve either. It was shot at Tylösand and at the suite at the Hallandia Hotel in Halmstad. "I never liked the sleeve, much too 'grown up' for a 24 year old… but maybe that happened to show a different side of me than the one in GT…"

The album generated one single; "Om du har lust" with the flip side "Överallt" and "Man varnade för halka." The single is quite hard to find. EMI even claimed it was never released.

Some sources claim that the singer Anne-Lie Rydé loved "Segla på ett moln" so much that she "stole" it (convinced Per she could have it,) but that's not how it went down. Anne-Lie got it because it was a left-over.

"Per Gessle" was released on CD in the box set "På väg" July 1 1992, this time with three bonus tracks. "Segla på ett moln," performed together with Marie Fredriksson, ended up on the album "Demos 1982-86."

Wow, how time flies.
It must be a kind of nostalgic feeling for Per to think about his first personal release 25 years ago. One must start feeling old than, haha!
It sure is not the best he ever did and actually I am more a Marie-fan but I like his early solostuff in a way.

Tev is just a living Rox&Co-pedia ;)
Thx for the article

Be strong, speak true

wow

His weakest album to date. Not as good as ’Scener’, but there are some hidden pearls here too, like “På väg” (it should have been the 1st single), “Timmar av iver”, “Indiansommar”, “Den öde stranden” and “Rädd”. The sleeve is simple but cute. It fits the album, somehow. An album to play from time to time, but not a favourite of mine.

Congratulations Per!!!

Happy birthday “Per Gessle”!

I love this album, but always wondered why his voice was so low in it... it sounds like he was trying to sound older, and the funny thing is that now at 49 years old he doesn’t even sound that old! “På Väg” is a masterpiece and should have been the first single even if it’s Strömstedt’s song. It’s one of his best ever. “Den Öde Stranden” is also brilliant, and all in all it’s an enjoyable listen (even if the country stuff is a little weird).

One question - weren’t “Man Varnade För Halka” and “När Morgonen Kommer” also B-sides on the “Om Du Har Lust” single? Or am I confusing this single with the “Inte Tillsammans, Inte Isär” single?? Can’t remember anymore... not even sure where my “ODHL” single is to go and look...

“Den öde stranden” is very nice.....especially in the end with the guitars and stuff....!

Tex, you’re right of course. Man varnade för halka is also a B-side. När morgonen kommer was on Radio Parlophone, or something similar.

By the way, the Crash!Boom!Bang! album was released 14 years ago ;) on April 9, 1994

Wasn’ t it Monday 11th?

“Om du har lust” was very much released...or what do I have here in my hands right now?? (I just checked my collection) ..didn’t know that it was that rare....
Well...Per ..nice to get 25 again hmm? I like the album and especially Pers darker voice on it!

So Per Gessle is celebrating his 25 years as a solo artist this year!

PS As for Crash!Boom!Bang! I also think that it was released today 14 years ago :)
