What exactly is with US?

if you followed music trend you would find that grunge music became very popular in the usa between tourism and cbb, combine that with a huge shit in management at emi us, where the old regiem that favored alot of pop bands like roxette were out, couple that with a botched release date for cbb, the mcdonalds ep which pissed most major retialers off, some to this day do not stock roxette albums, thats where they went wrong, oh and did i mention almost unreal made it into the crappiest movie ever :)

Coyboyusa is right. If you want to blame another band for Roxette’s demise, blame Nirvana. That grunge sound was the death knell of pop music as we knew it in the States. Pop music has NEVER recovered even though grunge has long since been passed by hip hop and R&B. All the great pop music makers have struggled or died away, not just Roxette. Richard Marx, Jennifer Paige, Billy Joel...I could go on and on but their music was left for AC format radio and unless you’re a diehard fan, they live in obscurity on the U.S. music scene. The sad thing is that these artists are still making GREAT music but the record companies and radio stations would rather us not hear it.

And of course, enter the cRap music scene where it’s popular to call people names that I can’t repeat here.

Where do you people get POP music doesn’t dominate the US charts and never made it back...what do u call Britney, Madonna, Kelly Clarkssson, Matchbox 20 (Rob Thomas), Justin Timberlake, Kylie, Beyonce, Paris Hilton among others...Pop/ Rock will live on as radio still exists and as long there are circuit parties...they can still make it back...this however is the last chance to make people remember who they are as they no longer have the”option” of a Greatest Hits...

Paris Hilton? Is that music? mmmm

Thats exactly the point...if her song “Stars are Blind” made it to the Billboard Charts was because Tracy Young produced a great re-mix and was playing all over. Similar to the mixes of Kelly Osbourne...and as long as you have a great re-mix to play in clubs...you have a guaranteed hit...problem is for “One Wish” no re-mix of the song is availbale...

Although a remix of OW would no doubt help, i don’t think that a comparison to Paris Hilton of all people is fair. She has been in the world’s press for the last so many years and she has that many blinded fans that whatever she released was bound to make it big remix or not.

Just like any of the Idol shows, the winner will always get a #1 or close to it, primarily from the exposure they had.

Roxette was forgotten once the grunge thing happend and people need a wakeup call. The Hits compilation is the perfect opportunity with some decent backing from Capitol/EMI.

Not necessary, because out of all the American Idols, only Kelly Clarksson has made it to have more than 5 Top 10 Billboard HIT Singles, and ironic how none of them actually made it to #1, highest they got was a # 2.

So if you have 4 # 1’s, 2 # 2’s, and numerous Top 20 Hits, you deserve to be recognized for it...and people do remember Roxette...well their songs...only thing that is required is a big push in the right promotional aspects and that includes bringing them to the club scene.

you can’t compare pop music that wis written and performed BY the ARTIST to stuff written by a teram of writers and made by a team of prodoucers, the only standout is kelly clarkson, whom if she hadn’t stood her ground and made her last album the way she wanted probably would have disappeared like the rest of the idol contestants, it all boils down to how high a profile an artists has, roxette has always seemed very reluctant to even try since the joyride times, i rember lars telling me that the instore performance i saw during their promo tour for the usa hits almost never happened due to conflicts between their promoter at edel records at the time and virgin megastore management, I always wondered whether or not marie dimber was not the buffer but the cause of some of the mistakes in roxettes careeer, including the almost unreal fiasco

she has had alot to do in the enormous mistakes behind their carreer...and as of today at least in South Florida Miami, Ft. Lauderdale area there is not one copy of the “Hits” available at Circuit City, Target, Borders, Specs, in Downtown areas and South Beach where I have been and asked for the CD...applause to Capitol for the great distribution...

All sold out! ;-)

I think it is a shame ignoring such wonderful music like roxette and other european “pop”artists did in the last years. What would be if EUROPE would be as ignorant as the us in accepting the US music (hiphop, r’n’b etc)?
You can hear roxette EVERY day in radio here in europe, not only one special song. there are lots of them. I can’t imagine a world without roxette (in the medias)

Actually I have seen the first piece of publicity...a 60 sec commercial on LOGO promoting the album and available at Walmart Stores...and they actually have them as the new releases there...http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=14543

They as well have the album displayed as a new release...and as something HOT! Finally something done right...

Wish I Could Fly, did not fail if you take into consideration the little promotion that put behind it. And Anyone, i don’t think was even released as a radio single over here.

Take care!

With a proper promotion Wish I Could Fly could be a massive hit in the US. The song and the video are fabulous.

Haha, isn’t LOGO the gay channel in the US? I guess they do know the demographics :P

I know I busted my ass with WICF promotion here in Utah with 2 other people. I think they have a chance again, but it’s up to Marie if they decide to take it.

I know here in the middle of the cornfields, they played Wish I Could Fly a lot on the radio. (More than I heard Sleeping in my car). Given the little promo for that, that son g didn’t do so badly. It’d be nice to hear the new one on the radio though, working on my local stations (seems they’re waiting to actually receive it from the record company). Now the attic remake of Reveal would really be cool to hear on the radio. Everything sounds better on the radio for some reason!

Wish I Could Fly have a power of old ballads like Listen To Your Heart. It’ s pitty that there was no big promo in the States back in 2000. Look what WICF did in Europe, even in UK.

logo...the gay tv network? omg lol after all these years they finally admit the majority of their audience in the states is gay :)

and after that not much going on...

No News over Roxette-Release in USA? Strange!!!

I don’t think TDR knows anything about Per in the US, promotion and news related to the Hits! CD ...

Sucks!!

Take care!

Btw, did they make a US commercial for the LOGO network, or they showed the one previously released in Europe?

What did you expect? The “Hits” didn’t make many weaves even in the countries where Roxette has a big fan-base, like Germany. So, why the things should be different in the US, a country where they were totally forgotten since the Mc Donald’s thingie. It was quite predictible the CD will appear in the stores with almost no promotion (like in many other countries these months). Maybe a decent TV ad, but that’s all. If I were you I wouldn’t wait for big news regarding this release. Release parties and such belong to the past, face it.

I’m still shocked that so little is being made of Per being seen with Ricki Lake at the Beatles LOVE show in Vegas! I thought that would have stirred a lot of debate around here, but I guess I was wrong. Perhaps these two have a history of which I’m unaware, but don’t you want to know what Per was doing with a recently divorced celebrity at a Vegas show on the strip? To me, that deserves at least an explanation.
