No Roxbox NTSC DVD for the States
jnavleris said on November 17, 2006 21:10:
I just bought the Roxbox from a dealer here in the States and they shipped the boxset with the PAL DVD and not the NTSC DVD. They told me that the “the manufacturer planned a NTSC version, but has cancelled it.” So, I guess no NTSC DVD for us fans here in the US. Anyone else hear about that or have any news on it? I think it’s sad and I’m a little upset about it.

I’m super sad about this too.
Even Frida Lyngstad’s FRIDA box was pressed with a NTSC DVD for export purposes (and a good deal of that was Swedish material !!)
I will never understand certain decisions that are made in regards to Roxette’s releases.

Isn’t RoxBox supposed to be released in the US? In this case, there should be the NTSC DVD...

OK, I don’t know about you, but did the prospect of a US release of the Box get even smaller?

I’m not surprised by this. My order for the RoxBox from cduniverse.com keeps getting push back again and again. I’m starting to get quite impatient now. I ordered the NTSC version, too, so it looks like I’m just going to have to cancel my order. However, the PAL version there is on backorder STILL as well. Distribution of it is very poor since many sites, including Amazon.com, list it on backorder.

The DVD is REGION FREE already... BUT it’s in PAL.
If the Box will be released in the US it will be released at the end of December, until then I guess there’s no point in wondering.

It should be region free. I bought the all videos and more, it is PAL region 0, also I have the Pincette DVD, Pal region 0 and they both play fine on my USA DVD players, have you even tried to play it? O.o

I noticed that Amazon.com has removed the “backorder” label from the NTSC RoxBox...says it will ship in 4-6 weeks for $88.98 plus free shipping. That’s still in time for Christmas...not bad.

Dear jnavleris,
You’re information is correct, unfortunately. Coconuts.com and Amazon.com have pulled their NTSC versions of the RoxBox and I have been told that they will not become available. I’d like to vent some frustration about this by saying that whomever made this decision is an idiot. If you’re truly committed to rejuvenating Roxette’s career here in the States than burn a run of NTSC discs...no one is buying a PAL DVD here unless they are a true diehard fan. Combine this info with the new release date of mid-January for the Greatest Hits and the writing is on the wall for this supposed “comeback” to be another huge flop.

By the time I get the money scraped together for this... the flap will be over and NTSC may be released.

I’m glad I finally gave in and got my PAL version from Amazon.com in the mail the other day. I was tired of waiting around for the NTSC version.

Sorry, but at this point all the fuzz about PAL vs NTSC is just pointless. Here in Argentina DVD players are mostly NTSC, but anyway I bought “All videos ever made and more” (made in Europe, PAL system of course) and many other fans bought the RoxBox already.
This is not the end of the world. There are multisystem DVD players, that play both NTSC and PAL DVD discs. If you don’t have one of those, then play it in the computer, and it will work perfectly. No need to worry about a NTSC version being released.
shammes said on December 4, 2006 01:16:
Some of you are confused about NTSC vs PAL. Even if you have a DVD player here in the States that is capable of playing both formats it won’t matter one bit if you don’t have a TV that can display a PAL signal (and I’d bet 99.9% of people don’t.) True, you can watch it on your computer but watching on a 17” screen with crappy speakers isn’t quite the same as viewing it on a 32” TV with surround sound.
ditroia said on December 4, 2006 02:58:
Most Standard Definition US TV’s [Except for European Imported ones] Cannot Display PAL Because of NTSC’s lower Resolution. Whereas in PAL Counties all TV’s can Display NTSC Video. However I Think that if your DVD player can convert PAL to NTSC then you should be able to play PAL Video on a NTSC Display.
A HD Display will be able to Play PAL Video.

My TV has a switcher, and you can choose PAL or NTSC. I think TV’s in your country have the same function. And let me say my TV is not new, it was made in the early 90’s!
So, the difference is you have a 32” TV. Mine is only 21”, so watching it on TV or the computer makes not much a difference for me.
shammes said on December 4, 2006 12:40:
TV’s in the U.S.A. do not have a switch to go between NTSC and PAL. There are a select few DVD players that will convert the signals and a few of them don’t require that you have a multi-system TV to actually watch the converted PAL signal but I’ve never seen one nor do I know anyone that has one. So again, about 99.9% of people with DVD players and TVs in the States would never be able to see a PAL DVD without purchasing extra costly equipment and this is why I’m sorry that the powers that be decided against an NTSC version of the RoxBox.

Try “dvd shrink”, copy the dvd’s - dvd shrink makes it region free, then you can watch it on any dvd player in any country.
Just a suggestion.
