Phobia

I just met a reptil (a little dragon) by my pc some 10 minutes ago and I’m still in a shock state :s
Do you know the best thing that can be done against a phobia, or better, a phobia shock? :s
You can tell about your phobia experiences too, kind a “phobic anonymous” talk :s:s:s:s

I’m scared of wasps and various poisonous creatures, but apart from that I have some strange phobias...for example:
I’m afraid of heights - yet I’m alright in a big aircraft. That sort of thing.
Rich-UK said on August 26, 2003 12:56:
Don’t mind heights anymore, although I used to be scared...
Yesterday I went to High Force, the tallest waterfall in England, in Co. Durham...
Half of it had dried up so I climbed all the way down then back up it, at about 85 degrees, all fun!!! :-P

I do not like spiders. looking at their legs make me wanna through myself outta the window.
I do not like cockroaches either. They are ugly. Expecially the ones Aaso is talking about. I know where she is coming from :).
I do not like heights nor rollercoasters. And I do not know why. I used to go hiking with my dad twice a day for hours and hours and I just loved it. I can’t do that anymore. I am just so scared of falling down. Very scared. As for rollercoasters, I don’t like anything that gives me that feeling that rolling down the coasted gives you. So i am not into amusement parks if that is a perfect date you are planning for me :D.
wendy said on August 27, 2003 12:29:
Wow,damineh,then i’m not the only one :D
I hate rollercoasters :s
I mean,i always “try” it,but, then,i just find it so horrible, that i wait all day when the others are on the coasters :s i’ll eat an ice-cream in between :p

I LOVE water, from the water in a jar or water in the ocean or the one puring down as rain! I just love it.
Yeah Wendy heehee. I actually don’t get on them. A few years ago we went to PNE which is a very nice amusement park in vancouver. You know the ships that go back and forth and around? Someone told me they are fine and I got on it. Oh dear... I was swearing atthe entire world during the entire thing. There was a girl sitting beside me whom I didn’t know, a perfect stranger. I’d grabbed her pinching her and swearing right beside her ear very very loudly. For an hour after we got out, everyone passing by me was looking at me which a grin on his/her face. It was very embarrasing but haha i will never forget it.
wendy said on August 28, 2003 15:14:
Shees,those ships :’(
I’m scared of them, actually,it’s cuz of those ships i got scared in rollercoasters,it goes so slow :s
when i was in one,i was so scared, and it took so long.. :s and, when i thought the ship was about to stop,i opened my eyes, but,we were hanging on our heads :’(
Anyway,i think it’s also because those safety belts are too big for me,they’re always so loose, and when we go over head, then it seems like i’ll fall through them :s:s:s:s
xuxa said on August 28, 2003 15:43:
I Can’t say if I love or hate rollercoasters cause I have never been in one before.
But, everytime I look at it I feel soooo scared that I think to myself that I can’t do it :S
So, I guess I’ll never know what is the feeling :S
derek said on August 30, 2003 15:49:
i dont like rollercoasters iv tried them yes but they are not my kick in life .but its best to try these things then you know for sure if you like them or not
i_jera said on September 8, 2003 08:20:
I love rollercoasters... But I’ve never been on one big enough for me. (I’ve been in Disneyland /Paris/ and the one in Vienna; none of them was high/long enough to make me feel what I wanted...)
About phobias, I used to be very afraid of heights, and I’m still afraid, but it’s not like phobia anymore, I even enjoy staying on high places. I dislike insects and such, esp. if they’re big or too many, but I’m not afraid of them. Well, I don’t think I have any “strong” phobia (or at least I haven’t discovered it), but well, sometimes I feel more secure if the lights are on; and usually I carry a knife with me. (Sometimes I get little paranoic.)
About fear shocks, I do anything to calm myself down, and anything that won’t remind me of my fears... or anything that will make me feel more secure. but about phobia shocks when they’re caused by insects or such I don’t know. I just haven’t felt any of that kind.

@ally77 -I’m hurt!
I have a fear of drowning, although I can swim.
MiracleMan said on September 8, 2003 16:27:
I’m not afrain of the hieght as much as the falling from them. And its not so much the falling, it’s the hitting the ground part. . .
And cockroaches—not really scared, but when I lived in Georgia, they had these roaches as big as a baby’s foot.
And now my flesh is crawling.

I am terrified of ants. I have been since early childhood. They smell funny to me...sort of musty. I can always tell when there’s a lot of ants nearby because of the odor they give off. I think it’s the odor that has caused the fear, but I don’t really know how or why.
I also dislike most clowns (although I wouldn’t call it a phobia). The clown in Stephen King’s “It” is just terrible. I’m also bugged out by that nasty looking clown that Jack in the Box uses as thier logo. As common as the fear of clowns are, I have to wonder what on Earth they were thinking when they chose to put that creepy thing all over their ads and restaurants!
I knew somebody who was terrified by the tank of the toilet, but only if the lid was opened. She called me up one day hysterical and begged me to come over. I thought somebody was murdering her or something so I ran over there as fast as I could (she was a neighbor). She was standing in the hallway crying. She told me that her kid had removed the lid to the toilet tank and she was scared of it and would I put the lid back on for her. I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing. She later told me she had been that way all her life and couldn’t recall any precipitating event that could have caused this fear. That is without a doubt the strangest phobia I have ever witnessed.

Once, in the street in St.Petersburg, near the faculty I was studyin’, I was banged by a car;(
That was absolutely not harmful for my health, except of the chock I got... Also, my friends were standing and smokink near the university building, and they were watchin’ this occasion:(
After that I was panicaly afraid of crossing any street, even if there were no cars ay all;), for several month...
