GIRLS ALOUD - COPY CATS??

Okay just reading in a UK paper a review of the new GIRLS ALOUD single “NO GOOD ADVICE” and was shocked to see the cover of the single.... check it out @

Nice cover on the new CD single but I think it looks familer, or just perhaps my brain is working overtime!!

Maybe my eyes are not good enough, but I do not see any shocking details on the picture.
Maybe i have to look better??

CBB

@ Harriej.... maybe your just a secret fan of GIRLS ALOUD!

Ah, now I see!
The Crash! Boom! Bang!-checkerboard background.
But if remember correctly, not only Roxette has used it before, but also Kim Wilde (before Roxette did it) had something similar.

@ Harriej.... Yes... it looks like CBB & SIMC.... I did not know Kim Wilde did it as well..... Everytime I see CHECKERBOARDS I think of ROXETTE!!!

Oh how cool that people still get inspired!

Kim Wilde? Which album? :o

Stormkeeper,

It was not an album, but a videoclip.
I think Chequered Love, but could also be an other one, because it is already a long time ago.
I might even be wrong, but in my perception Kim Wilde also had this pattern in one of her clips.

Yeah maybe but she did not use it on a singles/album cover... pity GA cannot be more creative.... then again they are only manufactured crap....

ACTUALLY, the originators of the use of checkerboards in their visuals is Cheap Trick back in the 70s!! They use checkerboards on their amp stacks, on Rick Nielsen’s guitars, and sometimes in their logo + on album covers.

Sorry, checkerboards originate with Cheap Trick. I think Per must be a fan, as they are one of the true original powerpop bands ever.

Roxette didn’t invent the checkerboard ;)

Per once said in an interview for CBB when asked about the album cover......

’I think its cool......very Blondie’

Check out Parallel Lines by them, ok...so not a checkerboard....but I think he was referring to the black and white bit.

Hey Viz, sure, Blondie is cool, and PL is a classic, and I know Per is a big fan. But still, checkerboard visuals started with Cheap Trick, even before Blondie’s PL, at least 2 years prior.

I know.....what I mean is....the inspiration behind the CBB cover is more Blondie than cheap trick.

Oh OK, sure, but I wonder if Per knows of Cheap Trick’s music?? I know he’s a Blondie fan, I remember his quote in discussing musical differences between him, Marie + Clarence, where Marie was all about Joni Mitchell, Clarence about Kate Bush, and Per with his candy-coated Blondie collection...
