GOT IT!!!! Got the Canadian Version!!

Hi,

Got my Ballad hits CD this morning from www.play.com - it came with the EP and is the Canadian Version.

Am very impressed with all aspects of it. One thing I’ve noticed is that the Canadian version is NOT protected.

Really like the artwork, Breathe is brilliant, the EP will be one of my most fave roxette releases.

in complete desperation i have ordered it from there now aswell as the copies supposedly arriving from amazom, skivhugget and cdwow.

which one will arrive first? ;)

Are you rich Vix??? If you don’t like some of it, send it here :P

not rich just buying for the rest of Britain who can’t get it coz its not available in the shops here.

hey Vix, I’d be willing to bet you’ll get it from Skivhugget first... that place kix butt!

hey Thomas, I’m confused. I thought this was a Canadian site, but the prices are in Brittish Pounds. Is this site based in the UL then? And also, I thought the Canadian version wasn’t to be realesed until next week. You received it today? When did you order it? Just curious about this site as I’ve never seen it before...

Yes, Thomas, let us know please! I just ordered the EP version from skivhugget.com last night in fact. But if I can get my hands on this non-copyprotected Canadian release, I’ll surely do it! Not so I can burn CDs and sell them but so I can make my own compilations with these new songs!

@PerFanatic - yup that place is cool...... I’m hoping atleast one of my copies arrives this week or I might just go nuts waiting to see the booklet and hear Breathe ;)

I ordered through HMV.COM as I’m currently in the US and will go back home in 2 months. I don’t know when I’ll be receiving the CD but my mom just told me that she could go get it for me from HMV in person :)! So I didn’t have to pay shipping and all. I assume the store price is more than the internet price so it would still come up to $27 at the end.

Amazon Canada sells the double CD Canadian release for a great price!
http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006RZ5X/pietroxetteco-20

yes, at $25 canadian, that comes out to be just over $16 US! A very good price indeed.

But did you notice that they still have it listed as “Love Peas”? Very interesting.

Oh, did you also notice the sales rank... #49... not too bad.

Hey, sorry for the delay in writing. Have been a tad busy.

OKAY, so www.play.com is an English company based on the Island of Jersey (obviously for Tax and Import purposes). They import their stock from all over the world, depending on where it is cheap and available.

TBH I recieved from them on Monday (ordered on 21st October when I first saw them stock it) is the Canadian version otherwise it wouldn’t have EMI CANADA on it. It comes with the EP and had a White circle “Limited Edition EP” sticker on the front. There is also a mistake on the EP CD with the track numbers - i.e. two number one’s missing out number two. Have had a good look everywhere on the CD and in the booklet and I can’t see anything about it being protected.

TBH is in stock at www.play.com and they usually dispatch within 24hours. I have ordered from them for over a year and have never had any trouble. Ordering at least 30 DVDs and approx 10 CDs in that time.

Plus you can’t beat the cool price of £9.99 which included P&P!!

TBH is brilliant by the way!

Thomas :)

I hate that play.com is shipping only to countries of the European Union. It’s not fair... :-/

Thanks for the info, Thomas. Unfortunately, until the post above, I had no idea play.com did not ship outside the European community. So, it looks like I’m screwed. I guess I’ll be ordering my copy from Amazon Canada, unless I can find a nice imported version at Media Play. I’ll have to look.

Got it too, thanks to Play! (who I doubted at first) Now I need all the other releases :D

I could send it to you if you want it Pietro.
If you live in North America you can just order the CD from http://www.hmv.com for really cheap.

i work at a wall mart and i saw an EMI MAN and he told that its sure it will be out on nov 12!!! som im not worried!!

irvye –“Pietro. If you live in North America you can just order the CD .....”
irvye–click on Pietro nick and you will see that the some things are trully unfair....
click on my nick and you will see the name of the country that is “in Europe” from thousand years-when most of the countries in Europe weren’t born...
but now we wait for permission to become a EU member— funny, sad, unfair........choose the word...

Hey Roxchurch, Irvye knows me and knows well where I’m from :-) He said that North Americans can buy the album from HMV.

Actually I went to HMV and seen that they - surprise, surprise - don’t ship to my country. I have e-mailed them and here’s what I got:

»Dear Peter,

Thank you for your message. Unfortunately due to a large amount of highly suspicious orders being shipped to Hungary, we regret that we are no longer able to ship our products to your country. It is for this reason that Hungary has been removed from our web-site. (We have encountered similar problems with Austria and Croatia.)

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.«

This is bullsh!t, sorry... How can an order be highly suspicious? I don’t understand it. They only ship an item IF the buyer paid it with credit card. Then? How on earth can an order be highly suspicious if it’s fully paid?

I picked up the Canadian version at my local Sam The Record Man in Ontario on November 5 :) Just had a gut feeling that it *might* be out...and there it was...in the “Roxette” section of the shop. The album is wonderful! Would be nice to hear ATAY on the radio here though.

Pietro,

I truly sympathize with your situation my friend. I think what this company was trying to say though is that when they ship item to Hungary (and the other countries they mentioned), there is a high theft rate, which results in their customers not receiving the items they ordered. Regardless of whether a person’s already paid via credit card, I assume this company has refended the money to their customers who never recieved the product. I would assume that they have studied these trends and at some point, it just became too costly for them to ship to these countries.

What I’m getting at here is that I don’t think they’re not shipping to Hungary because they don’t like Hungarians. I think it’s more a case of, if they’re losing money by shipping things there, they just decided to cut their losses.

Again, nothing against Hungarians (heck, I married one and have several friends), but you have to admit one of two things: either the Hungarian Postal Service is very corrupt and steals items themselves, or, they do not control the security of their male, which enables criminals to steal it. I know first hand of this problem as we have had hundred’s of dollars worth of items stolen en route to my wife’s family in Szigetszentmiklos. Unfortunately, the corrupt actions of a few criminals make the rest of the country’s good people suffer from companies that won’t ship to Hungary because of this problem.

btw, what the heck is up with the release in Hungary anyway? Roxette is usually very popular there...

I just got it yesterday too!!! I ordered at HMV Canada weeks ago and the price was really reasonable. www.hmv.com

Sorry irvye- i didn’t understood rightly “If you live in North America “.... but i was so angry about all this wrong attitude to different countries...:-(((

Hello Jim,

I usually order about 3-5 times a month off the internet, most cases from merchants outside Hungary. So far I have received all my orders. None of those packages have been stolen by the post office. There’s one think I don’t understand with North American merchants. If they think that packages are stolen here (and also in Austria and several European countries) why don’t they send them registered? None of the online stores I’ve ordered from so far have had the option “registered mail” when placing an order.

Whenever I order something from a Hungarian online store, they ALWAYS send the package as registered mail. This means, wherever the package goes, it’s registered. They simply stick a sticker with a barcode and a number on the parcel, and wherever it is (several post offices, couriers, etc.) the barcode is scanned so they can always tell where the package is at the moment. At the final step, I have to sign a form when the mailman gives the package to me. It’s that easy.

Isn’t that a common thing in the US/Canada? Since neither Amazon, nor CDNOW, Djangos, HMV, etc have this option. I know that registered mail is available both in the US and in Canada, I have received several packages from friends that have been sent registered (yesterday I got a parcel from Canada, that has been sent registered as well). So I really don’t understand why North American merchants aren’t using this.

An item sent registered can always be tracked. You just have to take the receipt you got at the post office when posting the item to any post office and they will tell you where the parcel is. If they realise that the item was not delivered (since the signature of the addressee is missing), they pay you a compensation. You can either define the value of the package when sending, or, if you don’t, they pay you 20 times the cost of shipping. I believe this is the same for all countries in the world, since the postal service is quite the same everywhere.

Packages, of course, can be lost in the mail, due to many reasons. However, if they are sent registered, the only one to blame is the post office, who pays the sender a compensation (usually more than the value & shipping cost of the item).

Whether postmen are corrupt here or not, I can’t decide. I don’t think they would be more corrupt here than in any other parts of the world. Once I sent a package to Irvye, to Canada. It was sent registered, however, the mailman in Canada just dropped the package in Irvye’s mailbox. He didn’t have to sign it. I went to the post office with the receipt I got and asked them to trace this package since I assumed it wasn’t delivered. They (the Hungarian post office) traced it and paid me a compensation since they didn’t find Irvye’s signature...

high theft rate— ha-ha-ha-ha who gives that rates??? :-))

as Pietro says-“An item sent registered can always be tracked”(and than nobody will talk about theft rates:-)))
That is a common thing when you sent something 100000 miles away !!!
It’s not expensive at all!!
I send lots of thing to the countries far away from me using the bulgarian post office, and there weren’t any probs..

@silver-blue:

What do you think this is?!

Hi Pietro,

You’ve made some good points in you last post about the use of registered mail. Unfortunately, as with many other US Government-run agencies, the US Postal Service cannot be used with the apparent ease of its international equivalents. I suspected that the cost of sending something International Registered from the US was quite expensive, so I checked the website at www.usps.com and this is what I found: to send a international registered package (up to $40.45 in value) would cost about $8. Any additional value would require the purchase of additional insurance at the rate of about $2-$3 per $100 of value (I think anyway). Granted, if companies shipping from the US offered this service, the customer would obviously have to pay for it. I doubt that most people would chose this option as the cost is quite significant, especially if you’re only ordering 5-6 CD’s and already paying $5-$10 for shipping. So, I think most of the orders shipped to those countries would still end up being shipped the non-registered method anyway. However, a further reason US companies wouldn’t even offer this service is that it would require them to spend hours at the post office waiting to have their registered packages processed by postal personnel. Companies (like Amazon, etc) that ship 1000’s of packages per day have a shipping system in place, which was designed to be cheap, efficient and fast. For almost all of there packages that are shipped, they are processed at their warehouses, and then just “dumped” in bulk at a postal location. I can’t imagine any of those companies being willing to send their employees to the post office and spend countless hours waiting to have the registered mail processed. Again, this is unfortunate, but a reality of big business.

And, here’s another bad thing about our postal service. One of the packages I sent to Hungary, I sent registered and insured for about $200. Well, after several months, the package had still not arrived. Finally after about 10 weeks, my wife’s parents received the package, but it had obviously been opened and re-sealed. Everything of value had been stolen and they only left a few personal items (like pictures, etc) in the package. So, after telling my story to numerous postal employees, I filed a claim with all of the correct documentation. Finally, after 2 months, they informed me that the most I could recover would be about $12. Some crap about the fact that the package was actually received or something like that. So, in short, I paid money to protect the value of that package and it ended up being worthless. For this I blame the crappy US postal service, and mine is not an uncommon problem. So, you may see why companies here try to avoid dealing with those morons at the US Postal Service.

Let’s put it this way… you know what kind of reputation the police have in Hungary, right? Well, let’s just say that the our postal service is that equivalent in the US:)

Got it at last from play.com! no skips no copy protection plays fine complete with EP and the vocals on Breathe are stunning! :P

Vixz, is the one you’re talking about the Canadian release?

@DaminehGessle
Strange! I pre-ordered mine about 3 weeks ago so I guess they’re backlogged. Good luck!! :0)
