Ace of Base!

Ace of Base’s new album is AWESOME!
I HIGHLY recommend everyone purchasing it when it comes out!
I know this is a Roxette board but I had to say it.

DONT FLAME ME! I’LL TALK ABOUT SAVAGE GARDEN! :P>

*LOL*
that is sooo true about savage garden, and now we have to put up with darren hayes and his ego going it alone :(
onlywhenidream said on September 11, 2002 14:57:
never thought there was enough space on this planet for both Darren Hayes and his ego and his rancid hair cuts!
PerFanatic said on September 11, 2002 16:24:
Agree about darren hayes, but Jenny & Linn sounding like a man? No, you’ve got to set the switch on your phonograph (that’s a record player) to 45 for the singles, not 33 (that’s for the big records).
I’ve only heard a few of the new AoB songs but yes, that album will kick ass big time. Beautiful Morning is not even close to being the best track on the album!
onlywhenidream said on September 11, 2002 17:54:
@ storm...yeah, all that she wants...in this song her voice is so low and masculine ( i think) - she just does not hav eMarire’s talent and ability to sing a great range of notes and octaves.

I wish you wouldn’t talk about either! I hate both of them, the ugly woman singer from a o b sounds like a man, and savage garden sound like women!

LOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I did like Ace of Base when they came out with HAPPY NATION and THE SIGN. They were different. Then came the bad time AoB went down. Savage Garden mmmmm.. well to be honest I love TRUELY, MADLY, DEEPLY and LIKE IT OR NOT by Darren. Both Bands were and ARE good. But we can’t compare them with Roxette (which has a class of it’s own!!!)
onlywhenidream said on September 12, 2002 12:57:

I totally agree - Roxette are in a different class - they have a depth of history in their music.
I don’t care if other people like a o b or SG. I don’t!
shama said on September 26, 2002 10:49:
many of you seem to be simply jealous cos of AoB’s commercial success. i don’t care. i like them, some songs of SG also (though i don’t like darren’s voice). But i love ROXETTE and yes, that’s a different category. but they had catchy songs.

I like Ace of Base, so I’ll give it a try :) When is the new album out?
Th_Th said on September 26, 2002 13:04:
Funny, I just listened to their “The Bridge” album on the way to work... beautiful life is just an awesome song! Or blooming 18...
Th_Th said on September 26, 2002 14:50:
have a o b actually sold more records than roxette? I mean, Roxette has sold more than 60 million records all together, what about AOB?
Sascha said on September 26, 2002 15:05:
No, they sold about 40 million records. But their breakthrough album happy nation/the sign sold over 20 million copies!
Th_Th said on September 26, 2002 15:46:
Were AOB not the most successful debut Album Band or something like that? Almost unbelievable, that Happy Nation sold much more than twice as much as Joyride did... I read in an article a few years ago, that Happy Nation sold more than 24 Million Copies. But I think a big factor for that was, they first released Happy Nation, and it was a massive Success, it was huge all over the World, but they didn’t have a record deal in the US yet. When they got one, they had some real good new songs for the Album and released Happy nation US Version.. with the Sign etc... of course this Version sold realy well all over the World again as well, thus I think, really, those two CD’s should have been two different Albums, but still, this had been some amazing Success they had, but how come Swedish Groups as Roxette, AOB, Cardigans are huge in the States and just a year or two later (or 4 years later in roxette’s case) they are fogotten about??? Even though their new stuff is so much better than the previous stuff?
coyboyusa said on September 26, 2002 16:07:
actually as i rember it happy nation was originally a big flop and it was their usa exposure that got them a writing session with the person who whelped them cowrite the sign and its pretty sad that their 2nd biggest hit was a cover : dont turn around” ace of base sold as much cause they were the abba of the 90’s, abba was often referred to by many as the beatles with no soul which unfortunately describes happy nation to a T. the bridge was by far a better album musicaly lyricalls, artistically and ended up selleing less than 4 million copies in the ens its not about sales its about respect and roxette has a hell of alot more

For those that are interested, AoB’s new CD “Da Capo” will be released this coming Monday, September 30th (nice birthday present for me!).
Roxette will always be #1 for me, but AoB has some truly great songs in my opinion. Yes, they’ve had tremendous commercial success, but like Roxette, most of it surrounded their first two albums, especially in the USA. If I remember correctly, Billboard put something out in 2000 saying that Ace of Base was the most “successful” foreign (non-US) band in the states in the decade of the 1990’s and were also the 4th most successful over all, including all US acts. I think this was based on sales, probably of albums. I was truly shocked when I heard this. It’s one thing to be the #1 foreign artist, but #4 overall, that’s freakin amazing! With that in mind, and taking into consideration that The Bridge had very limited success, and practically no success since, just tells you how HUGE Happy nation was here. I remember hearing The Sign and All That She Wants constantly on the radio.
As to the sales of different versions of albums being tracked differently, that’s not really realistic. Ace of Base is well known for tweaking their track listings depending on what the country of release is. Happy Nation is a good example, The Bridge not so much, but Flowers/Cruel Summer was also tremendously different. Hell, they even re-wrote the lyrics to Life is a Flower and made it into Whenever You’re Near Me for release in the US. Too bad about that one, because the lyrics to LIAF are far superior to WYNM.
And, last but not least, their new album will be HUGE!!! I’ve heard all the songs only in low quality and they’re still great. A lot of influence from the Happy Nation days I think. I’ll tell you right now, there could be up to 5 mega hits on this CD. Beautiful Morning is not even the best track, Da Capo, Unspeakable and World Down Under are better.
For those of you in the US, you can order Da Capo from www.skivhugget.com. They have good prices and great service!

Darren sounds like a woman??????
He haves an amazing voice........
c’mon,i know his voice is high, but i think that’s just the beautiful thing about it...
so,if you had to choose between Pavarotti and Darren, who would you choose???? :p
NickNL said on September 26, 2002 22:31:
Darren can sing.. although he sounds just like Dana International *lol*
But have no fear: Savage Garden split up some time ago.
As for Ace of Base.. they still sounds the same as their first album.. Probably the only trick they know.. too bad cause I had higher expectations from them.
Nevertheless.. roxette is still quality guaranteed :-)
PerFanatic said on September 26, 2002 22:35:
All of the new songs can be found at the following URL: www.ace-of-base.de/frameset.htm
Look at the far right of the screen where the tracklisting for Da Capo appears. Where it says “listen to the new songs here”, click on the word “here”. You can then DL the songs by right clicking and ’saving as’.
As for Darren Hayes’ voice... sorry, I don’t like to criticize people’s tastes in music, but when he sings high, I can’t stand it. I just heard his latest song insatiable on Mix Megapol and I had to switch over to Radio Match. His “regular” voice isn’t that bad, but he sings most of that freaking song in falseto. It’s so annoying... i just couldn’t stand it...
PerFanatic said on September 26, 2002 22:37:
hmmm, I like Dana International quite a bit... comparing Darren to them is an insult to them:)

I’m trying to hold off on hearing the new Ace of Base album until I receive it in the mail. I did, however, sneak a listen to “Unspeakable” - which is really good! And “Beautiful Morning” has really grabbed me lately. It’s becoming one of my favorites.
I was hoping I would find the new album at www.cd-wow.net but it’s not listed. :/ I guess I’ll order from www.skivhugget.com then!
