Roxette World Tour 2011 schedule

News of Roxette’s comeback spreads around the world

Written by Lars-Erik_Olson on May 10, 2009 to .

"Hitmachine Roxette makes comeback at Night of the Proms" proclaimed a headline in the Dutch-language newspaper De Morgen as news of Roxette getting back together again continues to spread around the world… the bulk of the stories appearing in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and other European countries.

While it would be impossible to include links to all the stories The Daily Roxette has come across in researching this article —  and somewhat pointless since most of them are based on the same press release sent out by d&d, Roxette's management company — it's still remarkable to know that the story was thought to be interesting enough (as there are thousands of press releases sent out via PR Newswire every day) to be picked up by the Associated Press (AP) and other media outlets literally around the world.

A typical example would be the New Zealand Herald that wrote, "The managers of 1980s pop sensation Roxette say the Swedish band will reunite for a small European tour starting in October. Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson found fame as Roxette in the late 1980s with hits such as 'It Must Have Been Love' and 'The Look.'"

Also down under,  an Australian news site has tapped into the Roxette-comeback story.

In the United States, the Seattle Times is just one of the newspapers that picked up the AP story. Also, controversial American gossip site TMZ has given Roxette a mention.

Just as two examples in Europe; in Switzerland, Tages Anzeiger picked up a story put out by the Swiss News Agency (SDA) and wrote: "The legendary Swedish pop duo Roxette faces a reunification on the stage. The guitarist Per Gessle and vocalist Marie Fredriksson come back together beginning this autumn. They will, as part of the "Night of the Proms" tour Jubilee, play their hits live in front of an audience. Currently there are over 20 concert dates fixed. Roxette had their career put on ice seven years ago due to cancer in the present 50-year-old Marie Fredriksson.

A column called "Listen" in Politiken, a Danish newspaper, wrote under the headline "Golden times Roxette is back" that "LISTEN is a true joyrider and yelling: 'Hello you fool, I love you' over the [Øresund] Sound to friends Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson. Damn it's good [news]."

Finally, although not related to the comeback, Scottish radio personality Dougie Jackson just began writing a column for the Evening Times (Glasgow).  Reflecting on his past experiences, he wrote, "I was talking to everybody; people like Duran Duran, Boy George and Tom Jones. I remember once I was in Sweden with Roxette. The singer, Marie Fredriksson, was gorgeous and the guitar player was an ex-pig farmer. She wanted to talk about fashion and he just wanted to talk about pigs."

Mentioned in the NZ Herald? Nice! :-)

wow, USA Today! Super!

Per was a pig farmer?

News has come to other places in America, for example in my country, Costa Rica, since it was announced that they come back there was a little article in the most important newspaper, La Nación.

http://www.nacion.com/viva/2009/mayo/05/viva1955134.html (In Spanish)

And also a link in Greece. It’s the biggest internet news source in the country!
http://www.in.gr/news/article.asp?lngEntityID=1012245&lngDtrID=253

Per is right. The world is ready!!!

And I also wonder, what pigs?

also chanel 13 (artear argentina) , a new program called “en sintesis” may 12th 00:30 AM , they show up “how do you do? ” video and told about , an european tour.

Ha ha ha, never knew Per raised pigs...

For anyone who can read Greek here’s a link:

http://www.in.gr/news/article.asp?lngEntityID=1012245&lngDtrID=253

It’s about the Amsterdam gig and the comeback. It doesn’t add anything new, however in.gr is one of the biggest news portals here in Greece and I think it’s the first time it mentions Roxette!

Correction to the article (you may learn something):
De Morgen is not a Dutch newspaper. It is a Belgian newspaper published in the Dutchspeaking Flemish part of Belgium. This majority of Belgians is Dutchspeaking and lives in Flanders, the north of Belgium. The Frenchspeaking minority lives in the south in Wallonia.

Media in Argentina, especially the news on the most important TV channels, as well as the most important newspaper have also spread the news on Roxette’s comeback! Even a student of mine told me at school that he had heard the news on TV the day before!
