Per Gessle

Just came home from a swell mastering afternoon at Cutting Room. To my surprise EMI have managed to locate the rejected Battery studios-mixes, made by Michael Ilbert in London in December 1996. Can hardly remember this…. but… I recall that Michael was very ill with a bad stomach throughout the week and I thought the studio was way too far away from my hotel in the posh areas so I didn’t pay attention that much….. anyway… as you might know we only used the “There is my baby”-mix on the record. However, listening to the Battery mixes today both Clarence and I found them superior to the Mono Studio-mixes (made in January 1997) that we did use on the album… so…. we decided to change for this re-release. Which means you’ll get “new” mixes on three tracks; “Elvis in Germany”, “I’ll be alright” & “T-t-t-take it!”. Surprise.

so they are differently mixed? why is the it so important to mension, cause they
sound EXACTLY the same?

We’ll see. I haven’t been able to compare the mixes yet.

Is there an earlier release date for Germany? May 9th?

Hey
When a track ’mix’ is different, they usually mean that the song’s ’production’ angle would differ, usually not the melody and/or music. More like the ’balance’. Certain differences in a mix will determine the overall feel of a song. For example, if the artist/producer/engineer felt that the guitars in the original mix of ’T-T-T-Take It!’ (for example) needed a more ’grainy’ type of distortion, then the song may be listed as, let’s say, ’T’T’T’Take It! - Grainy Mix. In this case, I’m guessing Per might have silultaneously mixed several songs at Battery Studios also, therefore titling them as such. Subtle alterations to mixes (like softer snares, sub-bass enhancement, or panning guitars, for example) offer a significant difference to the sound of the song. You’d be able to pick these slight variations from the original mixes if you listen to the songs with some good headphones or high-quality car stereo. Try it?

Good explanation!

Green_Wagon: thank you for explanation. Now I know what it’s all about :) Let’s see if I notice the difference...

@Kerstin

Did you PreOrder your CD at amazon.de?

I got an email from amazon.de, that they will ship the album on may 9th. This would be really great :)

Amazon.de is already shipping the first copies of the album. I received an email this morning that my copy is already on its way ;-)

Yep. My copy is also on the way. :)

No copy here. I still haven’t ordered it :( Most probably I’ll do it next week... Don’t ask why!
