Update: Notes from Per:
1. "Elvis in Deutschland" was recorded about a year after the "Elvis in Germany" demo. I did it because I wasn't quite satisfied with the chorus of "EiG"!!! "EiD" has a totally different chorus (and different chorus lyrics) and is a ballad, sorta… but I went back to "EiG." A wise decision, if you ask me.
2. A different version of the "Every Day Outside My Window" lyrics was given to Marie a few years later and became her ballad "Every Day."
3. Same thing with "Beautiful Things, Terrible Things," which turned into her "Beautiful Things."
4. …and of course we're talking remastering here, I always felt that the original [album] sounds a bit too hard, we'll try to fix it now.
5. "Detective Jones" also exists with different lyrics, then called "Young," and was recorded by Staffan Öfwerman in the 1800s.
6. "June Afternoon" ended up on Rox's "Don't bore us" album but was meant for "TWATG" from the beginning. Micke Syd plays the drums and is brilliant. One of my best songs ever.
7. "Makin' Love to You" was written for "TWATG" too.
8. There's a demo for "Reporter" called "Writer." It's not on this album because it sounds almost exactly the same as the end result… besides the title of course.
9. The rest of the tracks were apparently also recorded as demos (it seems, I've forgotten most things) but they sound too much the same as the final album to be included. Why this snobism you wonder? Well, I want this demo album to be fun to hear for all the hardcore fans out there. As little as possible should be recognized…Now the pizza is here! /P

This album is simply masterpiece, full of fantastic ideas, great melodies, arrangies, riffs and with fresh modern sound but retro feeling also. For me this is Per’ s musical legacy. Great that it will be released with so many bonuses. This re-releasing has meaning. Perfect work Per.
Next step will be The Universe To Geesle. I am sure. ;-)

Looks really cool, can’t wait to hear the demo’s. I love hearing how the songs came to be what they are. Interesting to hear about MLTY, JA and EveryDay. As much as i don’t like paying for the same things again, this is something extra.
If they’re remastering, i wonder if they’ll get rid of the terrible clipping on the album?

Great news! I really hope it gets released in ARGENTINA.
Concerning Per’s comment:
“the rest of the tracks were apparently also recorded as demos (it seems, I’ve forgotten most things) but they sound too much the same as the final album to be included”,
I believe that maybe it’s time for another BAD HAIR DAY...
RobS said on February 16, 2008 08:03:
Dave, i don’t think it’s too late for a DVD to be added. Only problem would be packaging as a 3disc set. It would suck big time if they done 2 seperate releases IF there was a dvd included.
On that note, there’s nothing that i would really want, i never really liked the vids that were done for TWATG. Unless there’s a behind the scenes, i’m quite happy with the 2-disc that’s being offered.

@ Ogeid:
I don’t count with this album being released in Argentina. The chances are one in a million. Even in 1997, it was not printed here: the company brought some copies from Holland and that was all. I am afraid this will be an European release only.
By the way, isn’t it better to re-release the earliest (and most successful) Roxette albums, like “Look Sharp!” and “Joyride” with some bonuses? Those are full or mega-hits, and would sell by themselves. I wonder who’s gonna buy this Gessle re-release, beside fans. I thought the same when “The Lonely Boys” was repackaged last year: it may have sold 100 copies by now.
abysmo said on February 16, 2008 17:33:
I will do this now even if I don´t do this usually. At least for these three reasons:
1. For so many bonuses, this has meaning to buy it.
2. This album is full of great songs, melodies, ideas, arrangies, with fresh modern sound but also with retro feeling. Very very special, exciting, full of Gessle´s music I fell in love back in the begining of the 90´s. This is another Roxette album but without Marie.
3. This album is something like Gessle´s music legacy to me.
BTW you had the same idea as me with old albums re-releaseing. For more details look here:

Just a thought: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!
Amazing, TWATG has always been one of my favourite albums and means a lot to me as I became a “true fan” right before it was released.
Let’s see if we get a local release and (most unlikely but hopefully) a single release to the radios...
marcusvandeursen said on February 16, 2008 19:13:
Wow, if any news has really stunned me, it’s this!
Apart from it being my fav Rox-related album, the amount of bonustracks is just amazing.
If there’s any chance of getting some extra promotion for this re-release - would be fantastic if gessle grabbed the chance ad slightly re-recorded ’I’ll Be Alright’ with more of the main vocals sung by Marie - as a real duet so-to-speak. Think this could get massive airplay all over the place. Plus would be a great way to do re-create interest in Roxette (as in PG & MF performing together) in a somewhat ’low-key’ way esp. as the release could take place under the name ’gessle’.
@tevensson; How about asking Gessle about whether or not there is any possibility for a little European club tour this time around to promote release?

IMHO, I don’t think Gessle could be thinking about promoting this album with any gig anywhere. It seems only a re-release with extra material. Anyway, I love this album and I am waiting for listening it.

I’ve just realised that the JUNE AFTERNOON demo listed here has the same recording date as the one released years back on the june afternoon single.
So it seems like it’s the same track we’ve had for years.
By the way, wikipedia has an entry on JUNE AFTERNOON where it is mentioned the fact the the song was originally intended for TWATG. It says: “Recorded with member of the Swedish pop group Gyllene Tider, “June Afternoon” was the planned centrepiece on Per Gessle’s upcoming solo album “The World According to Gessle”. But plans were changed and this cheerful ode to endless summer was picked as a single off Roxette’s 1995 hit collection “Don’t Bore Us, Get to the Chorus!”“

Great news!!! I haven’t even dreamed about it. Once again TWATG is fantastic album, absolutely the best. What I pity it wasn’t wordwide hit, it should have been. More songs like this for next Roxette album would be great, I miss that sound. And some people claim that Per doesn’t care about his fans. Franlky I think Per is the most caring and generous artist in the whole world. Tack så mycket Per, this is very good release!!!
imazombieinthem... said on February 17, 2008 13:36:
by ’hard’ I’m sure Per means the mastered volume level. Should be easy to drop each track volume a little and increase the mastered volume level again(so it doesn’t sound like LS) and have a lot less clipping with a smoother sound. Though I like the distortion on TWATG.

I’m really surprised by this! Not only that this announcement is quite early in advance for a re-release, it imho rules out a SOAP2 release in springtime. I mean Per has been in the studio since last summer – what is he preparing? To shuffle some rumors: SOAP = codename for/turned into rox project..? ;-)

I think they are preparing a Roxette comeback, which involves 10 - 12 months to get the new album done.
Since 1978, each and every year Per is releasing new material. He wants to score for 2008 as well. He can do this TWATG release (which is AMAZING!!!) while he’s working on a new Rox album for 2009 basically.

the hard sound also has to do with the production. Ilbert had a heavy hand prodoucing material, hence the really loud string intro to anyone. I don’t know that I want the production on the album tinkered with tho, the fact it was brash and a bit out of the normfor per is what made it fresh and an oddity and a stepping stone for what would become roxette’s new sound so to speak. I don’t know necessarily that I want them to do this expanded treatment with all roxette albums, seeing as pretty much both albums worth of hand material are out, most of what’s probably left are live recording which might become mundane after a while. I do however really weant a remastered CBB album. I put my cd on the other day and actually noticed the mastering on the original album is worse than the mcdonalds promotional, how that’s even possible is beyond me. What’s kinda relieveing is that per seems to have gotten over his demophobia. In many ways I find demos to be a bit more revealing of the process. Never more was this apparent than the run to you demo, which frankly was entirely different song as a demo than what became the album version. Granted this won’t get me as excited as a new rox song or album but maybe as a stop gap measure it will keep me happy. I’ve really been in a funk muscially, everything thats come out new stinks, especially celine dions new album which has the worse cover of Alone by Heart ever. The world is a darker place with out roxette on the airwaves

Definitely some GREAT news! I had to wait weeks to get this (original album version) imported to America and I’m glad that wait was over! Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be much of a success–here in America–considering where the music business is going. And what happened with Per/Roxette getting some type of record deal over here? I haven’t read or heard anything more about it since it was discussed by Per in an interview early last year around the time the box-set was released etc...Anyone? Anyone? I believe, in general, the “happy-go-lucky” days of putting out the bubble-gum pop is over and that is what our Per Gessle did best along with some heart-aching ballads... Oh well, maybe one day they will do a final Roxette tour and retire with style instead of getting our hopes up and letting reality kick us in the rears... I still miss them though....Gonna go listen to “Breathe”

@ Benji: I don’t think Roxette’s/Gessle’s sound is redundant or over at all! You refer to the current trends in music - aka the pots&pans sound of Timbaland and co, I presume? Lets face it, the American Market has always been very eclectic. HipHop/Rap, RnB/Pop, Rock/Alternative, etc etc have always sat together next to eachother on the bible of charts, Billboard. And now they are crossing over into eachother as well. To tell you the truth, the only trend I can see at the moment is what I mentioned above. Everyone jumping at the chance of getting a track or album produced by Timbaland *yawn*
So if you are ever in doubt about Roxette/Gessle’s sound, then just pick up your new Celine Dion, or Avril, or Kelly, or P!nk, or Simple Plan, or Bon Jovi, or or or ..... as far as I kow, they’re doing VERY well on the charts in the USA. Why? Cos its pop-rock - pure and simple, sweet, bubblegum, sing-along, pop-rock!
Cheers cheers ;o)
Benji101 said on February 27, 2008 10:22:
@ carbon...you are definitely correct on how many older Pop bands are still going strong after all these years. But, no, I was talking about bands like Artic Monkeys, The Killers, Kings of Leon, White Stripes etc... What I should have done was be more specific on my statement. Roxette has always been a very catchy, irresistable band and very consistant with their music as Abba were back in the day. Where I do find an “issue” with their (Roxette) music, is the lyrical useage. I have always felt Per’s lyrical strengths were more in the power ballads–powerful and moving–but, when it came to his Pop-uptempo’s, it just seemed to lack after the commercial success of Joyride. ’Real Sugar’, Opportunity Nox, some of those lyrics were just too plain or overly-coated with so much sugar that they went beyond candyland. But, then you have a lyric like “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around What’s Already Gone”!! It’s like Hey! Where did this come from and can we have more of this!?!!!! Either way, don’t get me wrong (by my simple words), Per is a melody musical genious and great lyricist. Maybe it’s just me being brain-washed by typical American Music Politics or the fact that there were other factors involved as well? Such as Per’s statement about “EMI” = Every Mistake Imagineable and a McDonald’s deal that was so covered with “stupidity” grease (not by any means a Roxette choice) that there was no other choice but to fry it, ’94-’95 the “alternative- grunge” bands were becoming more and more popular etc and to top it all off a was MTV’s politics being the rotten cherry–per say. I do believe they (Roxette) got the raw end of the deal in so many ways/cases and Per just decided to give up over-all on America. I definitely don’t blame his frustrations. In the end, it all comes down to what ’real’ record company is willing to actually do to represent a pure, home-grown talented musician/band and not give in to the easy over-night/fly-by-night, pre-packaged crap bands that only last about 5yrs. Even American Idol adds to the music train wreck. Yeah, you might get a good singer almost every other year but, they are also adding gas to the fire by letting the other 3-5 front-runners get a record deals as well. Sorry if I am rambling on.... Again, you are right but, Per also takes a tad bit of blame for not “trying” to go outside the Clarence O. “machine”. In a way, “I wore the crown, I wrote the song” could have a negative meaning as well. Just because you use an American producer doesn’t mean your sound is necessarily going to change, especially when Per is so knowledgeable musically and internally w/ the music business but, you have to be willing to try different things and be open. That way you don’t get stuck in a time-warp but, why is a band such as Oasis, which, in MANY ways (similar to Roxette), has gone through the same issues in regards to record company head-aches (Oasis, in fact, has been dropped by 2-3 labels, but sold millions and millions of records), insulting Americans during their live shows, and not changing their style of music capable of remaining “popular” and on American radio stations??? P.S. I do apologize to the Dailyroxette management ahead of time for getting off the main subject.

@ Benji: To get back to the MAIN topic at hand -
If its good lyrics you’re after, buy the SuperSized edition of TWATG!!! Its MrG’s most colourful, all-inspired album to date.
If its better music you’re after, buy it as well!!!
And to my knowledge, bands like the Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, etc might have a lot to say lyrically, but cd sales and popularity after their debuts have slowly and sometimes radically decreased. A good song has nothing to do with its lyrics. Its the melody that grabs you first, then the subtle intricate production suprises and lastly only a line or two of lyrics that stick. Millions upon millions of albums sales are usually a good indication.
Hmmmm..... hey, sounds exactly like every Rox/Gessle song/album I know!!! Cant say that after the the 3rd Killers album they’ve sold a total of 30million records, now can we?
Looking back at history is always a good way of looking into issues such as this (history repeats itself - comes to mind), one does see a trend emerging with music - everyone jumps onto some new and fresh bandwagon, only to reealise that after album nr2 nobody is listening anymore. Look at the 90’s - America had the big alternative/college scene going at the same time Brit pop/rock came about. Where are those bands today? A handful are still around and still going strong - to be honest, I can only name a few!!! The bands you are mentioning are in fact the new breed...how many of them will be around in 10 years time? Or 5 for that matter?! I can tell you one thing though, they’ll dissapear, never to be heard of again - no record company would be interested. No buyer would care.
But Mr G and Rox will still be here. Still writing killer tunes. Still doing what he/they do best. Stll offering us more tripple stacker goodies (just like this one)!
*Oh yea, sure. I’ll have a Coke and some fries with that! Thanx!*
Cheers cheers

@Benji: I’m so proud of Roxette that they have no album produced by American producer. I’m so proud of them that they stuck to their roots!
And yes, The World Accordong To Gessle has very good lyrics, both ballads and up-tempo songs.

I’m gonna get dressed for success
