More "super duper extra turbo deluxe with cheese on" editions

Well, when I saw The World According To Gessle “super duper extra turbo deluxe with cheese on” edition with one bonus disc and so many demoses and outtakes, I´ve got an idea to release two last Roxette studio albums in some bonus edition too. There were some remixes, there were some christmas demos, spanish versions of ballads, some b-sides. So here is my idea for, let´s call it, Super Fan Edition of Have A Nice Day and Room Service albums. Because if companies wants to release remastered edition, than they should it with bonuses for hardcore fans.

Yes this is possible, the solution is to check the track by track timing and replace songs to match the best tracklisting for both discs.
And yes, old albums have worse sound than new ones. They deserves some remastering. But as I said, it has no meaning without adding bonus songs, more modern design, some booklet interviews or Per´s or Marie´s notes to album birth.

I want a re-mastered Joyride a bonus disc on that would be great with the missing “The Big L” demo! ;)
7-Twenty-7 said on February 16, 2008 19:38:
I don’t like when the artwork is “reworked”. So, no more ’modern design’ for me, it has to be as close to the original as possible. I meant to say you can’t put all those tracks together on one disc, because there’s more than 80 minutes there.

The Room Service tracklisting reads similar to the SA edition... which some already obtained...!

Album of the week “Gravy Train - A ballad of a peaceful man”

Re-master this, re-master that...
I can´t here it anymore.
Why do you want a remastered version of an album that already sounds good???
The old Roxette albums sound dated, I agree.
Because they are OLD!
Remastering won‘t change that!
It just makes them louder by sacrifying the dynamic.
To achieve a “brickwall-limited-mastered” record that still sounds good,
you have to pick the right sounds and arrange and mix it in a modern way
BEFORE you take it to a mastering-studio.
As long as they keep the dated sounds, the dated arrangements and the dated mix
of the whole Joyride album, it won‘t sound modern.
It will just sound more flat and less crisp... but yeah: louder!
Roomservice sounds like shit compared to Look Sharp:
No transients in the drumsounds, no outstanding details in the mix,
everything compressed to death and no dynamic left
C‘mon join the loudness-race.

You forgot important tracks like...
Crush On You (Almighty Remixes)
Stars (Rock Version)
I Was So Lucky (The Golden Bow)
The Center Of The Heart (HAND Version)
...and douzens of songs that Per wrote which sounded similar to MWMLML.
But I agree, if any, then the first albums are more in need of a remastering. But please don’t destroy the original sound. Maybe they’ll release some 20th anniversary editions..?

ALL great idea and fans would snap them up, know i so would.

Does anybody know, by the way, when this TWATG with the bonus trax will be released??? In May, is that right??
I would like to get a remaster of Roxette’s older albums, Look Sharp!, Joyride, Tourism and my absolutely fav album, CBB!! Each and every remaster should have a few bonus trax. I would, for one, like to hear the original version of She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.....
CoyRoy said on February 17, 2008 12:33:
Thanx!!
Wow - that’s a LONG time to wait - I can’t wait to get my hands on this remastered album - TWATG, in my opinion, would have been the BEST Roxette album EVER if Marie was singing on the album... GREAT album!!
AURYTE said on February 21, 2008 16:40:
I’m suprised that there aren’t a lot “Crush On You remixes, please”. So I shout out loud, please, release Crush On You remixes!!!
That said, yes, it would be a great idea to have re-releases of Joyride and Look Sharp! with bonus tracks. That would be a great release!

But what would they then do for “The Ultimate Roxette Collection” which is bound to come out one day?
nusaderenda said on February 22, 2008 08:33:
The last thing I want is another Rox album with old songs, remastered or not.
ChrisWilliams said on February 28, 2008 15:09:
Remastering, adding bonus tracks and freshening up the artwork gives old albums a better chance of getting the public’s attention when they browse the CD racks. It also provides an excuse for (in this case) EMI to alert the press to Roxette’s/Per’s/Marie’s current activities.
I know some people don’t like the way EMI gave Marie’s old albums an artwork update, but it encourages people to buy the set - And the spines look good on your CD shelves at home.
Here’s the best remaster series I’ve ever bought (and they didn’t contain ANY previously unreleased stuff!): http://www.infinestyle.se/uni_remasters.asp
icerox said on February 28, 2008 17:19:
Sounds good Chris, I have to admit remastered albums always attract my attention, I just bought the re-released Stars CD this week from Simply Red since I loved it first time round and it’s not a dissapointment!
7-Twenty-7 said on February 28, 2008 20:33:
I didn’t like the way Universal ruined the original artwork of the ABBA albums (that’s why I refused to buy them). They used the same font in every one, where did they got that idea from? The albums were so ’standarised’ that have lost their identity. Just imagine all the Roxette albums with the “Joyride” font. Do you think it suits “Have A Nice Day” or “Room Service”? It might look awful, it’s a stupid idea. It’s ok if you want rework the booklet. Put more photos inside if you want, but the cover must stay as close as possible to the original.
@nusaderenda:
You have got the same old songs countless times before, on ’Don’t Bore Us’, ’The Ballad Hits’, ’The Pop Hits’ and ’Roxette Hits’. And it’s always the same songs, over and over again. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to get “Look Sharp” and “Joyride” remastered. Just play “Watercolours In The Rain” on the original CD and then in “The RoxBox” and you will understand what I mean.
ChrisWilliams said on February 29, 2008 22:17:
Hi 7-Twenty-7,
I think the ABBA albums needed a good amount of ’standardising’ (if I can borrow your word) - They couldn’t have re-released ABBA’s first album to the general public as being “Björn Benny Agnetha Frida - Ring Ring.” Likewise, Universal Music putting the ABBA logo onto the eponymous “ABBA” album altered the style somewhat (for those unfamiliar with ABBA’s output, the ’ABBA’ album was released before ABBA began using their permanent logo) - But had Universal not added the logo, it might have ended up looking like so many cheap compilations that have been issued without the logo. For those interested, Universal have since released a box set containing all the albums (in fact, ’The complete studio recordings’) with their original artwork designs, in a mini-vinyl LP style. That’s aimed at the hardcore fans, while the individual albums in the CD stores (with their updated artwork) are aimed at the more casual listener.
As with some of Roxette’s albums, ABBA’s artwork was originally designed for 12” LP covers, so don’t translate particularly well to the smaller CD format, unless they are played with a bit. The back of the Joyride CD being a case in point.
RobS said on March 1, 2008 23:40:
What was on the back of the Joyride LP that had to be changed for the CD version?
TheRain1981 said on March 2, 2008 23:06:
Hopefully by reissuing and remastering ’TWATG’ EMI and Per will continue the reissue campaign by remastering and reissuing the Roxette back catalogue. 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of the 1988 release of ’Look Sharp!’ Now would be a perfect time to reissue this album with a bonus disc of demos, remixes, and rarities. There’s so much stuff out there from that era that has yet to see a remastered release on CD. It really is in need of an upgrade sonically! ’Pearls Of Passion’ could be reissued again with ’Dance Passion’ included as part of the bonus disc. It needs a fresh new remaster since the 1997 one is a bit outdated. The ’Pearls Of Passion’ tracks featured on the 2006 ’RoxBox’ sound much more full and brighter than on the 1997 remaster. I think that all the studio albums should be reissued and remastered with bonus discs, including ’Have A Nice Day’ and ’Room Service’.
AURYTE said on March 6, 2008 16:53:
Yes, I agree that the first Roxette albums should be re-released with bonus tracks. But please, leave the artwork as it is, though it would be great to have more pics in the booklets, also comments on songs. But the covers should be left as they are!

...am I just an exception here? Yeah, reissue and remaster albums, that’s fine. God, I can think of a number of albums that could do with a clean up.
But it doesn’t need all these ’bonuses’ - they’re a nice addition if you’re into that kind of thing, but in a way they can damage a ’flow’ of an album. Per’s probably done the right thing by slamming most of the bonus stuff on a second disk though. Good on yer son!
And dear God, please reissue Look Sharp! If the nearly 20 year old cassette sounds better than the much younger CD, something has gone severely wrong, has it not?
ChrisWilliams said on March 6, 2008 17:48:
Ah well.
Any update of the artwork would probably only extend to a new spine and replacing the barcode (which would receive a new catalogue number).
ChrisWilliams said on March 6, 2008 17:52:
@ whateveriam,
I fully agree, wherever possible I think the bonus tracks should be on a 2nd CD. If there isn’t enough to fill that 2nd disc, then only the main A and B-Sides (associated with the album, in chronological order) should be tagged onto the end of the album - But this is just personal preference :)
Marie’s albums had 30 seconds between the end of the original album and the beginning of the bonus tracks - A great way to do things.
AURYTE said on March 7, 2008 07:41:
I also agree that bonus tracks should be released on a seperate CD, like it was done, for instance, with The Pop Hits. First disc - hits, second disc - bonus tracks.

I would really like remasters of the early roxette albums as well, but even more than that I would like some live DVDs! I have the old VHS tapes of course, but i dont even have a video player set up at home anymore. Doubtful it will ever happen though
AURYTE said on March 10, 2008 06:28:
@ncurran: Live DVDs are on the top of my wishlist. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll get them. We’ve got MTV Unplugged. So little by little, bit by bit...

I’m in the same situation. So many times i’ve wanted to watch a few of the live shows, but without a VCR it makes it hard.
What is it going to take for something to happen?
7-Twenty-7 said on February 16, 2008 17:50:
I think both “Look Sharp!” and “Joyride” are more in need to be remastered than the latest ones. Just compared the sound of LS and is quite low if compared with HAND.
By the way, I don’t think it’s possible to fit 18 tracks on the 2nd disc of HAND, as there’s no enough space for them all (some are 7 or 8 minutes long).
