Roxette tune tapped for US television commercial

Written by DanJKroll on September 17, 2006 to .

PHILADELPHIA - The American television broadcast network, ABC, is using Roxette’s chart-topping single “The Look” in commercial spots promoting their new series “Ugly Betty.”

”Ugly Betty,” based on the Colombian telenovella “Yo Soy Betty La Fea,” is pegged by critics to be one of the biggest hits of the new fall TV season here. American Roxette fans hope that the use of the song in such a prominent way could draw some additional attention to the possible US release of the new “Collection of Roxette Hits ’86-’06” release.

”Ugly Betty” debuts Thursday, September 28th at 8 pm on ABC.

For a moment I thought this is a brand new Roxette pic...(-; lol

Anyway: How great!!!

Old age is ultimately the death of all once great musical artists and unfortunately Roxette are no exception. Being an American, I too would like to see Roxette attain some chart success in the USA again but I have long since come to grips with the reality of the situation; Roxette will never release another song here that garners any attention. And you know what? That’s OK. Why do we feel the need to have our musical tastes validated by Billboard? Yes, it’s an inconvenience to track down new Roxette music (when it rarely becomes available) here in the States and no, I don’t like paying the exorbitant amount of money those Euro shops charge to export their CDs, but I’m cool with just enjoying Roxette music for myself. I don’t preach their virtues anymore and I don’t try to get my friends hooked like I used to…I just get my new Roxette CD, put on my headphones and listen. Per & Marie have more money than all of us combined X10, so they probably don’t lose any sleep over the fact that they are no longer relevant in the U.S. Resistance is futile, as they say; Roxette will always be that “blonde girl” who sang “The Look” and “oh, that’s right…didn’t she sing Pretty Woman?”

link to this commercial would be nice :)

Nice :-)
BTW german TV also adapted the colombian “Yo soy Betty, la fea” as “Verliebt in Berlin”, but our Betty called Lisa ;-)

As much as I hate the ABC promo department sometimes (Lost promos which give away too much or confuse viewers, anyone?), this almost makes me like them again... ;-)

maybe roxette should brush up on their acting skills and join in the series.

the look has been used for an australian ad a few years back!

ViB is also an adaptation of this Colombian series - but since Lisa is away it hasn’t so much to do with it anymore. And of course I don’t like it either ;-)

I’d like to watch this trailer, can you find it on abc’s website or what about youtube or something like that?

It’s just great! Roxette at least gain a bit of attention in the US. I hope, the majority of Americans remembers The Look ;)

After reading this news, I keep tune into ABC. I saw Betty commercials several times, but not the one that has Roxette’s song.

They seem to be rotating... they’re using other songs as well.

ViB is the German version of this Betty la fea? Now I know why I felt like throwing up whenever it was on TV :D

They should forbid this crap :P

I agree with Judith!

Betty a feia!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAH this soap opera was showed in Brazil for twice.
It’s like a nightmare.

Hmmm...I submitted an article earlier this year because “The Look” was being used in Wicke’s Furniture here in the States, getting airplay on TV and Radio and TDR didn’t post my article and I had submitted a link, and they’ve been playing The Look in commercials for many months and in fact since February.

How come this article gets posted and not mine?

I guess someone at TDR doesn’t like me...Hmmm.

Funny, its a nice “novela -Bety la Fea-” ;)

Anyone remember “Kroll-ism” from back in the 90’s? I believe it can be attributed to this news piece’s author. It was a great work!
