This is not the correct order of the tracklist (see below), for instance, “Dangerous” was played as the intro song, but all songs performed are on the DVD. The tracks “Things Will Never Be the Same,” “The Big L” and “So far away” were supposed to be played but were cut due to lack of time.
From the REACH MEDIA RELATIONS, INC. NEWS pressrelease
Swedish chart-toppers Roxette may be known as a pop band, but they showed a lot of rock ’n’ roll heart during the rehearsals for MTV’s Unplugged, which was taped in Stockholm, Sweden, January 8th [1993].
On a side-note, the tracklist for the German and Spanish “One Wish” single is identical to the Austrian release:
01 One Wish
02 The Rox Medley
03 It Must Have Been Love (Christmas For The Broken Hearted)
04 Turn To Me
This is the actual playlist.
Dangerous
Hotblooded
Spending My Time
The Heart Shaped Sea
Fingertips
Cry
I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Loved You)
Heart of Gold
Surrender
It Must Have Been Love [twice]
So You Wanna Be a Rock’n Roll Star [3 times]
Watercolors in the Rain
Fading Like a Flower
Here Comes the Weekend
The Look
Perfect Day
[End of part 1]
Listen to Your Heart
Church of Your Heart
Joyride
Queen of Rain
What follows here is one account of that day [while we were told this was an MTV press release, it was more likely written by a fan]:
In MTV Unplugged, artists turn off the smoke machines, unplug the amplifiers and get back to basics with pure unadulterated music. The series, which premiered on MTV Europe in 1990, has been critically acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic and has featured some of the world’s greatest contemporary musicians including Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, and Elton John.
Roxette is the first Swedish band to feature on MTV Unplugged and their appearance also marks the first recording of the show in Scandinavia. MTV Unplugged will be Roxette’s only concert appearance in 1993.
Already by early morning there were many fans standing outside the Cirkus theatre, where the show was taking Wplace. They waited patiently in the bitter cold until 6:30 pm. when it was time to take their seats. The audience were all dedicated Roxette fans who had either won tickets through competitions or were guests of EMI and MTV.
The show began with an introduction from the hostess, Rebecca de Ruvo, explaining a few things to the audience about the recording.
Then Per and Marie came on stage with Jonas Isacsson (lead guitar) and Pelle Alsing (drums) to perform the first song “Dangerous.”
After the first song Marie welcomed the audience in both Swedish and English, while the rest of the band, Staffan Öfwerman, Anders Herrlin, Clarence Öfwerman and Vicki Benckert, entered the stage.
The stage was draped in white with real candles. The band remained seated throughout and were dressed in black. Marie wore a small black beret and Per his John Lennon sunglasses.
With the entire band now assembled they played “Hotblooded,” a much slower version with a bluesy feel, quite amazing.
Next came “Spending My Time,” “The Heart Shaped Sea” and “Fingertips.”
A new version of “Cry” performed by Marie accompanied only by Jonas, was another unexpected revelation. after a while they were joined by the audience, so it almost sounded like a gospel song.
Then it was time for the first cover, an old favorite of Marie’s, Aretha Franklin’s “I Never Loved a Man (
The Way I Loved You),” which showed how accomplished Marie is at delivering soul songs.
Then it was Per’s turn with Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold,” but with Marie singing most of it, followed by “Surrender” (from the album “Pearls of Passion”) and the Tourism version of “It Must Have Been Love.”
At this point there was a short break, due to a technical hitch, but Per and Marie quickly had the audience entertained with some silly jokes and spontaneous chit chat. “so far we’re quite good aren’t we?” said Per and the audience laughed and cheered.
After introducing the band Per announced the next cover of the Byrds hit “So You Wanna Be a Rock ’n’ Roll Star,” which wasn’t actually planned, but had been improvised during rehearsal.
They then played “Watercolours in the Rain,” and a slow version of “Fading Like a Flower.” For the next song, “Here Comes the Weekend,” Pelle was actually playing a Samsonite suitcase, just like he did on the album Tourism much applause followed a fantastic blues version of “The Look” which was very special. “Queen of Rain” sounded a bit strange without keyboards, but the next one “Listen to Your Heart” performed only by Per and Marie really proved just how talented they both are.
A slower version of “Church of Your Heart” came next, followed by the first notes of “Joyride,” which was virtually unrecognizable until they begun to sing the lyrics, it was incredible. the last song was “Perfect Day,” which just about summed it up for the lucky Roxette fans who were present to witness the magic, versatility and undoubted talent of Roxette.

Question to the tracklist of the RoxBox
Every Day (Outtake From Roomservice)
Not marked? Where could one get this song before?
Thanx.

and identical to the Spanish release, too. See EMI Spain.

Can’t wait to hear Surrender. How come not all the tracks were shown on TV before, does anyone know?
CDon.com only works for you Europeans, they won’t ship here :(
@ Steffen: Every Day I think was on one of the bonus CDs included with the Pop Hits or the Ballad Hits.
gyllene_tjej said on September 13, 2006 19:00:
Yeeeeay!!! So, the Unplugged WILL include the outtakes! Freaking fantastic!! Buying the RoxBox seems a bit easier now... i mean, I would buy it anyway, but now it is more worth the money!
Go Roxette! And thanks a bunch!

Either TBH or TPH had a bonus EP with a.o. “Every Day” on it. But not in Germany.

This bunch of songs makes me think more of buying the whole thing... But, I have a fear, won´t it be too many videos in only one DVD? How about the quality?

Great great news!!! I really prefer this MTV than any other concert.
Yes, I also think that this won’t be top quality, there is too much for only one DVD, but, well, it will be the COMPLETE concert and the quality will be better than all those copies from MTV on the internet, so, great great great.
I knew the Rox-Box worth the money !!

I didn‘t know they performed Surrender! It was not included on the internet versions of the show! It‘s really hard to find live video recordings of these old Pearls Of Passion songs. I hope this RoxBox includes some more nice surprises as well.
Starting to collect my savings...

I’m afraid that if I order the Rox-Box at CDON, maybe the box gets damaged on its way to my letterbox. Has anyone ordered something bigger than a CD/DVD before? Did it arrive OK?

OMG, I’ve got sound files of “Surrender”, “Perfect day” and “Fading like a flower” (where Clarence made a mistake and audience laughed at him :) but the quality of them is horrible.
Great news came today. I suppose I have to rethink my attitude to RoxBox :-)

Uh, and i thought my english wasn’t that bad... Please, Tevensso or Ncurran or any other whose native language is english, could you point out some examples of mistakes in this tetx?
Leaving aside some seemingly unnatural syntax use here and there, I wouldn’t say the text is “terrible”... but then again, I’m surely not spotting some mistakes.
Anyway, this DVD sounds fantastic!! I’m even curious to hear the reinterpretation of the songs I don’t like (and I get to hear Perfect Day live!! cool!!).
TheRain1981 said on September 14, 2006 03:27:
“But, I have a fear, won´t it be too many videos in only one DVD? How about the quality?”
EMI apparently doesn’t care about quality, at least when it comes to Roxette and certain other acts. (I say that because I’ve bought several DVD releases from EMI and have been pleased. John Lennon ’Legend’ comes to mind).
I really hope the quality doesn’t suffer on this DVD release. I’m afraid it is, however. There is simply too much being stuffed on here. I didn’t expect the whole concert to be included. Quite a shock! I’m very happy that it is all there though.
EMI should have put the MTV Unplugged on one DVD and the videos on another DVD. That way we wouldn’t have to deal with so much compression. Wouldn’t it have been nice to have MTV Unplugged in 5.1 audio? (That’s of course if the original multi-track masters are available). The same goes for the videos. I’m asking for too much now! Anyhow, I’m looking forward to the MTV Unplugged, regardless.
PamUSA said on September 14, 2006 03:39:
i would have liked to seen ALL the songs played for MTV unplugged. including all the cover songs. i believe roxette did a cover of Nirvana’s “Lithium.” a rolling stones’ song, i think. and didn’t they do Neil Young’s “Heart of gold?”
ah well.
Roxwriter said on September 14, 2006 07:00:

Roxette cover Nirvana??? LOL
Yeah and AQUA covered Metallica! LOL
Heart of Gold IS included in the DVD, re-check the song list :-)
Roxette DEFINITELY did not cover those hacks Nirvana lol

So happy to see the tracklist for MTV Unplugged.
I can’t wait to see this. Just don’t wanna be dissappointed with the quality of the video.
There’s going to be about 60 video clips on this disc - about 4hrs of video, that’s really pushing it.
Still can’t wait though :-)

The 1st tracklist is the one we’ll get on the RoxBox. It’s the broadcasted MTV show + bonus tracks.
The 2nd tracklist is the order of the original live performance.
So no additional CD, just some background info from Tev.

@gyllene_tjej, yes, well, no, I’m not a teacher but I used to be, and still teach sometimes but it’s not my main occupation anymore ;) Very stressful...
The songs I don’t like much but I’m looking forward to watch/hear are Cry (gospel-sounding?? wow, that sounds nice), The look in a blues version (!!!!). I mean, The Look is ok, but not among my favourites.
chrisjankunas said on September 14, 2006 12:06:

Actually I’m sure I read that they DID cover a Nirvana song to keep the audience happy when a power surge or something interrupted the official show - thus it was not recorded.
tevensso (moderator) said on September 14, 2006 14:53:
Yes, but that’s a lie, I was there and there was no Nirvana or other acts mentioned. :)
Oh and about the English in the “press statement” - it’s maybe not terrible, but certainly not great. It’s not press statement English, if you know what I mean?
ncurran said on September 14, 2006 16:31:
skuhm, there was nothing wrong with your english...in fact it was pretty much perfect in the statement. However Thomas is right about the type of language used. It is difficult to explain, but press statements, newspaper articles, etc tend to have a distinct writing style. With your piece you were interested in a lot of small details that us as fans are interested in, but your average man on the street wouldn’t be, and that kind of gives it away that it was a piece written by a fan.
Nothing wrong with your english though...on the contrary...i am a german teacher and i only wish my german was as good as your english!
gyllene_tjej said on September 14, 2006 20:33:
ok tev, I get your point. The excerpt does not read too well coz of some syntax & register inaccuracies, but otherwise it’s quite ok!
I’m myself most eager to hear the outtakes like Surrender, Fading like a flower which was sort of flawed...actually all these songs we only knew in a crappy sound quality. I start my countdown again :D
rox-kuryliw said on September 14, 2006 20:38:
you know i thought i was reading wrong to begin with cos i wasnt understanding it on the first read lol, but i got it now :-) we get all the songs thats what matters LOL.

No they didn’t, at least not during the show, and I really doubt they did it before the show as the crowd wasn’t let in. I’ve seen the “full tracklisting” and it’s not even in the correct order.
ditroia said on September 15, 2006 09:20:

tevensso (moderator) said on September 15, 2006 09:36:
Yes, that is the one we have up here, and it seems it’s not a real pressrelease. Most certainly written by a fan, I removed the parts about the covers as they definitely weren’t played. I was there and all they played were the 20 or so songs mentioned in this article.
skuhm said on September 15, 2006 09:40:
*blushes* Thanks, ncurran. Anyway my english isn’t perfect by any means, and the more I learn the more I think it’ll never be.
I get what you two mean about the text now. Yes, a bit too enthusiastic and filled with info for an official text...
gyllene_tjej said on September 15, 2006 13:34:
btw, do you think that the fact that the Unplugged tracklist got so to speak extended (after all, we all thought they’d only fill the 1-15 slots in the RoxBox tracklist) had something to do with the widespread disappointment of fans with the box?
Or am I just fooling myself? ;) Anyway, do not change it back! ;) ;) ;)

Here is the rumor about Lithium and a Rolling Stones song from Usenet. It’s obviously one confused person starting a rumor that goes unsubstantiated (not supported by any evidence). Someone sort of remembered something from somewhere 8 years later? I think they had a dream where Roxette played those songs. Google Groups is your friend:

roxette collection is upstairs and we are doing house renovations.

Hi,
Dave here, I am from the US. My question is...Do we know if the DVD in the RoxBox will be region coded and/or if it will be available in the PAL format or NTSC format? Here in the US if it is region coded we need region 1. And the format is NTSC. I have a portable player that will play PAL dvds as long as it is either region-free or region 1.
I really want to order the ROXBOX but I am afraid I won’t be able to view the DVD, which to me is the biggest treasure in this treasure chest. Also, anyone know if Canada will be getting the box? They are more likely to get it than the US (and they are region 1/NTSC).
Any help with this will be deeply appreciated. Thanx!

I didn’t even realise they sang 20 tracks at the unplugged show.
Anyway, despite all my moaning about the rox box tracklist, the 2 new songs that i really love and the mtv unplugged (although i would have preferred one of their concerts on DVD) have finally persuaded me to buy the rox box....along with the fact that there is a 32% discount at CDON, which makes the price much more reasonable
