MTV 25 years - today

The first of august 1981 a new tv channel was born, it was the Music TeleVision.
What do you guys think about the first 25 years with MTV? I loved MTV in the early 90’s. Until the “black” music took over. I remember when they had an hour per day or something called “MTV raps”, Now there is rap/hiphop ALL day long, well, at least the few hour on MTV when there actually is music on.
These days I almost never watch the MTV, but until, say 10 years ago, it was super.

At least on MTV Finland they play videos during daytime. My fav show, though, is Drawn Together. Love it! :)

the only music channels i watch are vh1 classic & magic purely for nostalgic reasons (& because they’re the only ones whoever play roxette)

pwbbounce i agree. personally they dont play music a wide range of music anymore like they did.
Seems like the record companys with the most moneys owns the station.

I used to love MTV but now all they do is have stupid shows on that seem to have nothing to do with music (in the uk at least)
I don’t know what the digital offerings are, as I don’t have digital, but for now I much prefer VH1, as they actually play music videos!!

MTV has badly lost its way... but The Hits is worse! It used to be good, having special themed weekends, but now that happens very little, once in a blue moon, and they have teleshopping on at the times I want to watch videos when I am doing an early shift at work (about 5 in the morning)-if I see that ad for the Lateral Thigh Trainer one more time...

and whatever be warned mtv/ vh1 are owned by the same company and here in the states they have started runnign relaity shows and rap crap on vh1 so its just a matter of time before it happens by u too

hi there. i used to love mtv in the mid 90´s. but now this channel is not about music anymore. most of the day i can only see reality shows and stupid shows. if only there were famous artists on them, but it´s all about virtually nobody´s lives. it would be the same if i started talking about my life and mtv recorded it and broadcast it. who would be interested in knowing about that?

There’s not actually that much music played on MTV anymore - just those shows like Pimp My Ride. MTV Hits isn’t too bad, but I don’t like MTV Base much. R n B is not my thing.
