°°° New Roxette Design
joyrider said on June 17, 2006 15:32:
Some people asked me, how I would design the new Roxette album cover after I wrote that I was shocked about the awful graphic design from »The Rox Medley«-cover.
My »graphical opinion« how Roxette should visualize their sound in 2006 is: still classic Roxette but with a new reduced modern style. The point is, that Roxette’s RoxBox should look somehow more precious than TPH and TBH did ...
Well, here is my design concept: http://flo.rootspace.net/roxette/design-frandl1.html
... just click through and write if you like it or not. Cheers.

Just incase i sounded to harsh, I’ve re-edited my comments!
Don’t get me wrong; i do like but i GOT to disagree on some things! (Imagine how boring life would be if everyone agreed!?)

@joyrider
I liked your idea... but I would add a star behind “ROXETTE” to increase the “classic” style...
And I would name that collection “ROXETTE - the pearls” (“the pearls” design with a italic font) ;-)

I can’t see what is the problem here. Well, I can’t deny the design is not awesome. But after all, it’s just a CD to be promoted in the radio. It won’t feature in big ads and posters in the streets. So, there’s no reason to be worried about. I suppose they scribbled down that design in a rush.
chrisjankunas said on June 18, 2006 08:34:
@ RS Because with the whole “ROX” medley dessign and the ROXBOX coming soon some suspect that the Box will feature the same style and design !

Love the concept, only i keep thinking it needs more colour, and i’m not a fan of the news-print photo. The GreatestHits one looks nicer IMO.
But the whole concept is great, very minimalist and modern, and very striking.

Thanks for your comments. For everyone who liked the way I see Roxette in 2006, I’ve updated the package with 2 more covers. Have a nice day.

nice ones! too bad you cannot play around with the new pictures (coz nobody has them that is)

Sorry if this may be offtopic, but I was wondering who made up the Rox-20 logo that’s featured on the main page alongside the articles?? I really like it!! Is there any chance it will be used for the official releases??

Nice work... Congrats!
Greetings from Vienna... (btw I´ll be in Elixhausen on Friday...)

I had an idea about the picture at the cover of that Rox compilation: There’s a picture that shows Marie looking at a mirror, in a angle where we can see Marie’s smiling face reflected at the mirror and the back of her head... They could make something like this: Per’s looking at the mirror, at the same position as Marie did; but the face reflected at the mirror is not of him, but Marie’s face!
Just an idea...

Well done dude!
To the ones complaining, go and do something better if u can / and if u are a designer, of course.
PolicarpoAroca said on June 19, 2006 07:24:
I don´t like, I don´t know how to explain. Too dark and not very appropriate if we are thinking these could be the last Roxette releases. Look, for example, at what Texas fans have done designing the cover for a new single “What about us?”. I think some of them have great quality.
bradhdyd said on June 22, 2006 03:14:
I agree, nice concept. You’ve done a good job, love the minimalist feel - you can never go wrong with it. But I think that bolder colours (orange, yellow red etc) for the star etc would have more impact and tie in more with the classic feel. I also think the star should be bigger or in the background or both.
matufan said on June 22, 2006 03:28:
I don’t like them. Too much black there. Roxette sleeves used to me more colorful, this seems a bit “dead”.
But please, no mirrorball! It looks like a release by Madonna! You know, it is very related to “Confessions on a dancefloor”, something I really HATE!
joyrider said on June 22, 2006 18:19:
Thanks for your (nice) comments!
I don’t want to explain myself again why I chose b/w and just 1 spot colour, using that size and position of the star etc. – it is just the way I see Roxette now (without having new pictures... unfortunately).
Of course the design would look different, if -I- had the chance to “shoot” them (BTW there would have been lots of cool locations in my mind and cool concepts for the RoxBox, but who cares ;)
Do you know this pic? http://flo.rootspace.net/marie-limo.jpg That is Roxette (“1/2”) in 2006 for me as well ... Would be cool, if Per was on the picture too ... It has a kind of LookSharp!-feeling to me (strech-limo).
Cheers.
Secretkeeper81 said on June 22, 2006 19:06:
Yes I really like that pic of Marie in the limo with the guitar! ;)
Jud (moderator) said on June 22, 2006 19:09:
yes she looks great, I also thought it would make a good Rox picture!
Roxwriter said on June 23, 2006 03:00:
Nice pic...but I hate when they make her hold a guitar. We all know she can’t play, it looks so fake. It stands out like an obvious prop.
Jud (moderator) said on June 27, 2006 17:07:
is it me of the design has some similarities?? at least the idea behind it??

joyrider said on June 27, 2006 17:49:
Yeah, the “real” concept is quite the same ... but i would never tone a picture with persons (or skin ;) pinkish/violett; and if you ask me, I don’t like the “Helvetica Condensed Black” font... reminds me of cheap tabloids-headlines ... but I am not asked ;)
I think it’s just done in a rush for promotion ... The REAL DESIGNS will be different (at least I hope so)...
chrisjankunas said on June 27, 2006 18:24:
Actually I would quite like the concept to be the actual design - I think it looks quite classy and certainly better than HAND and RS styles which were awful !!!!
joyrider said on June 27, 2006 18:36:
Room Service was one of their best cover designs (along with LS! and C!B!B!). The pictures (locations) and design totally supported the sound and visualized the titel “Room Service” in a cool way in my opinion ...
The HAND cover concept was not too bad but designed unprofessional – just look at Marie’s Photoshop cutted hair on the cover ... The artwork made the sound of the HAND songs even more “glued together” and I didn’t want to be seen at the counter buying the album with that eye-hurting colour-combination artwork with naked kids in the back ... (c;
abysmo said on June 27, 2006 18:48:
Yes, Room Service have a great cover, I also like The Pop Hits, very partish, CBB and Don´t Bore Us. And pictures from Look Sharp are also very good. HAND is terrible.
ncurran said on June 27, 2006 19:32:
Room Service is prob my favourite cover. I dont get why everyone hates the cover for HAND. I thought it was quite fun!
Wicf said on June 27, 2006 19:53:
Hey HAND is actually my favourite album cover and WICF is my favourite single cover... Probably I’m the only one but it doesn’t matter :)
Room_service said on June 28, 2006 03:28:
Wicf, you are not alone! The HAND design (as a concept, it also includes the singles) looks great for me! Very minimalistic, and somewhat bizarre, like the pose of Per in the sleeve of Salvation, with that palmtree behind. I like the “wallpaper” effect in the backsleeve, and the different fonts they used. It’s an album that really catch your eye. It says: “Hey, we are back!” And the the version with the Spanish tracks features the colors in the opposite position, that was nice too.
The weakest design ever was “Baladas en español”. I really hate that deppresing brownish color, and those dull roses (not totally fresh roses). And the photos in the booklet are really old, they were previouly used in the British release of “Fireworks”. They didn’t put much effort to design that album, it’s only recycled material. I’d like to read what Joyrider has to say about this album. I guess he will agree with me!
joyrider said on June 28, 2006 07:47:
Yes, I totally agree. The cover artwork of the Spanish album is so weak... I always forget it / swamp it out... but HAND again... it would have been nice indeed but as I metioned before, lousy phtotoshop work (just look at the legs of the naked children... horrible) which makes the whole work look unprofessional.

That 20 Anniversary logo looks cheap too, in my opinion.
purplemedusa said on June 17, 2006 16:07:
Hey Florian, well done - atleast not another senseless complaint of just how bad the current designing is... you’ve actually went out and DID something!
I must however add that I HATE that particular shade of turquoise! I don’t think it’s got any reference to Roxette... plus i don’t think THAT particular b/w photo of P&M is effective either!! But I do get what you tried to achieve;)
I DO however agree that the designs for the upcoming releases should reflect a certain (now retro) classic Roxette style HOWEVER it should NOT be a copy of something they’ve done previously - I cannot imagine anything more monotonous!
