Use of "Moderators" label
alexandre100 said on April 16, 2006 16:42:
I got one question: Why do you moderators use the term "moderator" as you post at the threads as "regular" users? Why don't you guys make it only when you're acting like "moderators"? It would sound less "intimidating"...
filfish said on April 22, 2006 00:09:
as a humble by-stander, it also helps indicate to other readers/writers that moderators are actively taking part in discussions, which is always a good way of deterring people from slanderring or flaming in posts, I like to see it personally, keep it up.
Debora said on May 1, 2006 21:42:
Intimidating? Why?
Anyway, even the moderator status wasn’t indicated we all know them ,so, what would be the difference between reading “roxeteer/moderator and just “roxeteer”?

Oh jeez... why close The Rox Medley topic.... I can’t see there was anything wrong with that topic, a little heated discussion that was all!
alexandre100 said on June 26, 2006 21:11:
Or, at least, they should had explained the reasons for the archivement...
alexandre100 said on June 26, 2006 21:14:
I got an idea: why don’t you, moderators, hire a ombudsman for this site?
thenicekai said on June 26, 2006 21:52:
Aha. Roxette publishes a new song and the die-hard fans are the first ones who illegally share this song in the most known Roxette forum. And now they cry why this particular thread got closed. How silly can one get? I even gave you an official EMI link to hear the song in full length and in very acceptable quality. Despite you all keep screaming and posting your mail addresses.
I really miss a huge amount of respect, politeness and cleverness with some of the “fans” here. Has anyone of those who screamed ever cared about the reputation of this forum? No. They are selfish and greedy. It makes no difference if you would not have bought the song anyway (because it is dance music or a remix or just has an ugly cover)... a normal human person simply does not do that.
I am a private person in this forum and I feel very annoyed by the way some of the “fans” act here every time there is a new song. It’s a real shame.
And please don’t ask for an Ombudsman here. You wouldn’t respect him anyway.
alexandre100 said on June 26, 2006 22:19:
Well, I don’t agree with sharing illegal files, too... but it would be nice to read the reason for the archivements, not just at that thread, but at all of those which are archived (the moderators could start with this one)...
And regarding the “ombudsman hiring”, it’s just an idea, I didn’t write “please, hire a ombudsman”... “You” know that it will never happen. Otherwise, if that happen, I would respect him so much (by the way, I’ve been a great “respector” at this forum)
I hope “you” understand my point of view (and respect it)...

This is not an official website, it’s a privately run website. We don’t regard ourselves that important as to see the need of an ombudsman (???) - WHAT should this person do? Sorry but of all stuff I read against/about TDR, this is the.. weirdest - to call it something :D
Thanks Kai for the explanation, even though one could think by now it should not be necessary ;)

@alexandre: this discussion has been there before http://www2.dailyroxette.com/smalltalk/thread.php/11833
Why make a new thread?
alexandre100 said on June 28, 2006 21:18:
@harriej
You’re right, sorry for that... I should had search for that topic before start a new one... But you can be sure, someday I will learn and will make it right... ;-)

To moderators; Please life time ban all yousers who writes “LOL” all the time.
Hate it.

From Wikipedia:
“An ombudsman is an official, usually (but not always) appointed by the government or by parliament, who is charged with representing the interests of the public by investigating and addressing complaints reported by individual citizens.
The term arose from its use in Sweden, with the Swedish Parliamentary Ombudsman instituted in 1809, to safeguard the rights of citizens by establishing a supervisory agency independent of the executive branch.”
Cool, I didn’t know this word, and it’s of Swedish origin too! ;)
Jud (moderator) said on June 30, 2006 05:42:
:D so who contacts the Finnish government for the ombudsman? :D
tevensso (moderator) said on June 30, 2006 07:37:
Very OT: There are three Swedish words in the English language: moped, ombudsman and smorgasbord!
thenicekai said on June 30, 2006 08:39:
Even more OT: Moped and Ombudsman are well-know in German, too.
To be even far more OT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_words_of_Swedish_origin and for the friends of Swedish language: http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lista_%C3%B6ver_svenska_ord_i_andra_spr%C3%...
Sorry, just had to... ;-)
edit: And now anyone please do GT_85 a favour and say “LOL”. *rofl*
sommartiderhejhej said on July 1, 2006 22:30:
LOL, Let’s go even more Off-topic and rename this topic to......
- What is ombudsman
- Let’s go offtopic
- LOL
You can vote for the 3 above options or even add your own title.......LOL
denny said on July 2, 2006 23:47:
What’s wrong with lol? I like laughing and saying lol. :D
Now we say ombudsman as well in Serbian. How weird is that? :)
brentnewtown said on September 14, 2006 11:16:
this is so old I wonder if I will get an answer, but ...
i checked answers.com and see that ’moped’ is a made up word (by a swede) - an abbreviation of MOtor and PEDal. what is the swedish translation of motor and pedal?
tevensso (moderator) said on September 14, 2006 15:58:
Motor and pedal. :)
But it isn’t. It’s short for motorvelicoped which means bicycle with a motor attached.
japeke said on September 14, 2006 20:53:
OT: Is moped really swedish? At german lessons on school I learned it’s a german word :-D
brentnewtown said on September 16, 2006 13:47:
Ok then moped is a swedish word. I was all ready to be on my high horse saying that it is not really a swedish word if moped was derived from english words.
LittleSpooky said on September 16, 2006 21:44:
Found it on Ask.com:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moped
That’s one of the links I clicked.
tevensso (moderator) said on September 17, 2006 08:44:
Wikipedia claims it’s motor and pedal after all, now I’m confused.
Lars-Erik_Olson (moderator) said on September 20, 2006 16:16:
This discussion topic has been “hijacked” (see SmallTalk Rules discussion) and turned into a discussion on Swedish words that have been adopted/integrated into the English language. While I find this extremely interesting, it belongs as a seperate topic in the “Off Topic” discussions section. I’ll archive this now, and ask that someone with more time than I have right now start such a topic there (after first checking to see if one doesn’t already exist). Thanks.
