Fighting Fans?

What’s up with this page? some fans figth all the time. What’s up?

Unless something REALLY drastic happens (ie Lack of finances, mods deciding that their lives need to be focussed on more), I think TDR will be around for a long time to come. The issues that have been going on here will work themselves out, they have in the past.
whateveriam said on September 16, 2006 23:18:
Is THE END for TDR????
Hmmm...ask me at the next big scandal. At the moment I’d have to agree with Spooksy. The forum can’t run without mods, and forum won’t run without members...sticky one that!

I can see this going grey, but firstly I want to say: Roxette fans are no different from other fans. You should see the Star Wars fans fighting it out because one person says Mace Windu was evil and someone else thinks he’s great. A friend of mine participates on another band’s board and she says you wouldn’t believe the wars that break out over who likes a certain song and who doesn’t.
Fans are passionate and usually convinced their opinion is right. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been attacked on this board simply for saying I prefer Marie to Per! I saw it happen to Kiwein the other day for the same thing too, she didn’t even say anything against Per!!! Then you get the fans who think if you’re a fan, you must love EVERYTHING they do, then you get the ones who think you’re crazy if you DO love everything.
I could give a big speech about how all our opinions are valid and bla bla bla, but that would be preachy and nobody would listen anyway. All I’ll say is, it’s a discussion board and there’s going to be different opinions when you put a big group of people together. It gets very boring when everyone agrees....it can just go too far at times when we disagree! But really, it happens everywhere like I said. I hope Per realises that and doesn’t sit here reading this thinking his fans are psychos!
coyboyusa said on September 17, 2006 01:00:
well the forums are decidedly out of control and after the really horrid things alot of people said here not only regarding per but tdr staff etc...i think the forums need to go on hiatus
Roxrider_USA said on September 17, 2006 01:40:
If the forum section of TDR needs to be close down for a while just so the members calm down, i guess that then there’s no hope at all. If we can’t understand each other and work things out without the forum being shut down, we never will unfortunately.
Hopefully, this will never happen! :-)
Take care!

I don’t think that incorrect behavior of some people could be the end of any website or forum.
But wouldn’t this topic fit the TDR-discussions-board better than the Roxette-board?
tevensso (moderator) said on September 17, 2006 09:54:
I’m afraid that the current “bad behavior” might stop this site and forum as all the energy we the moderators/editors have goes to moderation. Like Lars simply put it “it’s just not fun anymore” so there is more than a slight chance that the site will close should the recent behavior not stop.
kielroxer said on September 17, 2006 11:35:
hopefully this is not the end!
i love this site. but i have to make 2 suggests:
1.) i´ve followed all the comments about the rox-box. sometimes it is better to get through a storm then trying to stop it. hope you know what i mean. imagine, what would have happend if the moderators simply would have waited till the storm would have been over - and i guess the storm would have had an end when the unplugged - news came up. or the discussions about like/dislike the new songs. you moderators just would not have had such a stressing - pissing time. just wait till the storm is over - most things on this planet are not eaten as hot as they have been cooked.
2.)filesharing over tdr: it IS a fact that in the 21 century you cannot stop filesharing, wether you like it or not. but to post links here online is soooooooooo stupid, since everyone here can taake the emailadress and request anything one wants via email.it hasn´t to be public. my suggest: just throw out anyone, who posts links. DO it. don´t discuss it. you will see: after a few days there will be no more posts...
sometimes thinking, argueing, discussing is not the right way. calm down, moderators, sit back and watch, throw out the few silly people who still haven´t realized that filesharing via posts on tdr is stupid, and enjoy the fact, that soooo many people are addicted to your site.

@tevensso: I don’t think that closing TDR is necesary. Would you close it because a few users? I’m sure you mods have identified those with constant “bad behaviour” problems. Well, do something about it.
It seems you mods expect that they correct themselves, but I’m sure it will not happen just like that. People that critizise TDR (and its mods and other users) won’t care about the closing of TDR, but there are lots of fans that care about this great site and it would be a great loss for them.
Krischan said on September 19, 2006 16:32:
@qrox: It’s not a question of necessarity. Read LEO’s comments in the “rules” thread. He’s pointing out the lack of fun and enjoyment. But this is the basis for running TDR - they do it for fun. If they get sick and tired of all this (which I would perfectly understand) that’s it.
whateveriam said on September 19, 2006 18:48:
And everyones ’homeless’ as it were...
A break might be a good idea...gives everyone time away to calm down and a new order to be created
qrox said on September 19, 2006 21:30:
@Krischan: Maybe I didn’t make myself clear. What I wanted to say is that if all those unpleasant situations take the fun away, then they should do something about them. Then, those situations won’t repeat again.

If Roxette‘s decision wether to continue or not is based upon the reaction of some people on a website, then they should retire! Do you really think your blind-following-kiss-ass mentality will change anything??? MUAHAHAHAHA!!!
This board became very funny the last weeks!
I mean, those who act like per being their butler are funny enough. But those who seem to see Roxette as a sort of scientologie, where the lack of loyality will be rewarded with punishment, go through the roof!!
Very entertaining!
Someone could make a “Celebrity Death Match”-episode out of this!
If it wasn‘t for some intelligent posters here (Ncurran, Santi, Purplemedusa etc.), one could think the whole “Daily Kindergarden”-community only consists of complete dumb-asses!
Keep on bitching!
I‘ll sit back and enjoy my arrogance in silence...

It’s comments like this one that make me sick. It’s just an insult to everyone. If this is the real face of a Roxette fan I’m outta here.
qrox said on September 22, 2006 11:41:
That’s not the real face of a Roxette fan. I think it’s someone who want to start new unpleasant discussion insulting others fans. That’s all.
whateveriam said on September 22, 2006 16:37:
Yeah, this a newspaper, the forum is superfluous, but still nice to have. If its the end, then fair play to the mods for doing a good job or this long.
Sparvogamarie said on September 23, 2006 07:45:
I’m just curious - do you guys have the ability to ban members? All the other boards I’m on ban people, including my own and I’ve banned 2 people before. There are certain members here who are downright abusive, yet they are allowed to remain active participants here.
I’ve also noticed that you guys now lock topics that are going off the rails - on other sites you generally get a warning first. In other words, if the fighting/hijacking or whatever doesn’t stop, then the thread will be locked. At least give members a chance to get the thread back on track!
tevensso (moderator) said on September 23, 2006 08:44:
It’s possbile to cancel someone’s subscription, yes... and on occasion we’re forced to do so.
Jud (moderator) said on September 24, 2006 11:23:
@ above: it’s not the first time we edit topic titles (and sure it won’t be the last one), so I don’t understand the fuzz about it?
http://www2.dailyroxette.com/smalltalk/thread.php/16524
4. No blind SmallTalk thread topics. A reader should not have to guess as to what the topic is about; should not have to “click in” in order to discover that. For example, “Guess what?” would AT LEAST need to be “Guess what song I just heard on the radio?.” Since that still involves a bit of guessing, “Just heard ’One Wish’ on WPLJ New York” would be better yet.
Unfortunately, we’ve edited A LOT of titles since Day1..
ally77 said on September 24, 2006 12:02:
Same here it was a joke... am thinking TDR has got a bit to serious after the past couple of weeks, it’s gonna start driving people away!
tevensso (moderator) said on September 24, 2006 12:11:
Yes, but really, is it funny to joke about a topic name change in EVERY topic that gets that?
whateveriam said on September 24, 2006 15:45:
Would depend on what the title change is, and what it was originally. But this a bit a bit of a sidetrack, so I’ll go back to the subject.
If TDR is going to develop a stiff upper lip, as it were, then thats OK...others might not agree though
ally77 said on September 24, 2006 17:47:
@ Thomas
No I just think the rules have suddenly changed to an extent too much especially since this leak of songs....
TDR is not as fun as it was (yes I know I don’t have to post here....) *before you say it...*
Lars-Erik_Olson (moderator) said on September 26, 2006 00:48:
Yes, I agree, TDR (and I assume you mean SmallTalk) is not as much fun as it was. For every “frequent poster” here... there are dozens of other TDR readers who seldom venture in to this section anymore because they find it a rude and unpleasant place to be.
All we’re trying to do right now is make a concerted effort to enlist as many readers as possible into HELPING us improve the community culture here, and by so doing, keep this entire newspaper afloat. All of us, readers and moderators alike, need to work together to improve this “community” aspect of SmallTalk.
While this particular discussion topic may have had a purpose at one point, it seems to me that THAT discussion has come to an end... and that the discussion now more focused on the “rules”, and so it is better suited to the “SmallTalk Rules” topic... let’s move over there so that we can all work together to achieve a consensus on what the rules document should look like.
p.s. If there is an appearance of a “sudden change” here... it’s not a direct result of the extremely regretable abuse of this site to help faciliate the spread of stolen material... so much as it is a result of a renewed interest by our staff to improve the entire newspaper, and move it forward in a way that requires shifting responsibility for SmallTalk to a broader segment of our subscriber base. Simply put, more people need to care about what goes on here than just those who have “Moderator” appear next to their name.
