“DJ” promo to be released
Written by tevensso on February 20, 2006 to Per Gessle.
STOCKHOLM (UPDATED) - Monday February 13 a promotion single of “Hey Mr DJ” will be released, to radio stations only. It will contain the original version of the song plus two fresh remixes. The first remix is called Love-For-Sale and is made by Clarence, Christoffer and Jimmy Monell (aka Shooting Star), the second is remixed by Jimmy and thusly called Jimmy Monell Treatment. While the first remix is very radio friendly, the second will probably do best on the dance floor.
This single will most probably not be released commercially, however, there is a fair possibility that the remixes will be available as downloads at for instance CDON and iTunes.
In cooperation with Son of a Plumber.com, TDR presents these snippets:
Jimmy Monell Treatment : |

Love-For-Sale Remix : |
Update Feb. 20: The single will be released commercially after all, as a physical single (0946 3591432 0) on March 1st and as a digital single on March 13th. The cover art is shown here.

It’s the “hit of the week” on Rix FM. I haven’t heard about the others yet.

#43 and #65 (??!) most downloaded song on iTunes today... I suppose that’s good, I don’t think of Per’s audience in Sweden as big downloaders... (-:
Looking forward to hearing these remixes, of all the songs to give the dance treatment to... sheesh!
tevensso (moderator) said on February 4, 2006 01:19:
For some weird unknown reason iTunes has the single listed twice, and the same with Jo-Anna and C’mon. Now that’s got to twist the statistics... Plus the album tracks...
daniel_alv said on February 4, 2006 12:20:
it has C-rotation on P3
and was also played some there this week...
it is challenger on tracks for this week, so maybe it will get #1 today :D...
EDIT: think he said it was no. 20 on tracks
purplemedusa said on February 4, 2006 17:45:
OH PLEASE NO ITUNES!!! Rather release it on a Maxi CD single!!!
carbon_boy said on February 6, 2006 07:18:
I am not impressed. I like a remix :o(
Maybe Mr G is keeping it for the international release? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Cheers

Nothing on the charts yet. It entered the popular show “Tracks” at #20 this Saturday.

Jimmy Monell did a great job on the latest roxette-songs.
I love the April Tears, which he is a member of. But unfortunetly they seem to stop working.
Can’t wait to get the remixes.
Strest said on February 6, 2006 14:57:
Here (Karlstad), they didn’t even know when they’d get the single (Åhléns).
Sometime this week, they think.
No wonder it’s not on the sales chart :)

We’re working on getting some snippets for you. Keep your fingers crossed.
purplemedusa said on February 6, 2006 17:35:
Oooh snippets would be cool!!! But I still want this available commercially unless some EMI representitive wants to shut me up & send me the promo!! *evil grin*
abysmo said on February 6, 2006 19:35:
If these remixes already exists, why don´t released them on a single? I don´t understand this way that EMI works. The same with Crush On You. EMI waste time and work of these people and getting angry the fans.
athingaboutyou said on February 6, 2006 20:53:
Agreed.
Plumber part 1 is cool and all but really...
RELEASE THE REMIXES.
RELEASE THE REMIXES.
RELEASE THE REMIXES.
The best Roxette mixes by far have been from aka “Shooting Star.” I can’t wait to hear these remixes and hopefully OWN THEM. I have no idea why they couldn’t have been included in the single. It would have shot straight to #1.
abysmo said on February 6, 2006 23:35:
Jimmy Monell Treatment sounds really cool, remember his Real Sugar version. Hope he´ll do some remixes for new Roxette when time comes...
PiR_GeSSLe said on February 7, 2006 00:10:
I like most of Roxette’s remixes, covers, etc. And I don’t use to grunt about them.
But I don’t like the snippets at all! The original track is so beautiful I think a remix is not suitable for the song. Specially with so much music filling the space and covering the vocals.
Let’s wait to hear the hole thing...
Meanwhile I’m listening to Patrik Isaksson’s “Vi som aldrig landat” album, and it sounds really great! Patrik fans please drop me a mail!
Roxrider_USA said on February 7, 2006 01:40:
Hi! How’s everyone doing?
The remixes a cool. I really enjoy these official remixes. These are really well done. :-)

Mmmm, I don’t like ballads being remixed into dance numbers. It ruins the mood of the song, somehow. For example, I like the “Stonebridge R&B remix” of “Wish I Could Fly”, because it’s still slow and gentle, and the original mood is still there. On the other hand, I can’t stand the “Stonebridge club mix” of the same song. It’s annoying.
That’s the reason I am not very excited about these remixes.
Jud (moderator) said on February 7, 2006 07:17:
nice ones, like them better than the original song :D
purplemedusa said on February 7, 2006 07:53:
AWESOME!!!AWESOME!!!AWESOME!!!AWESOME!!!
Now we need it to get on CD Maxi... NOT on ITUNES... I DON’T WANT TO DOWNLOAD THESE SPECIAL TRACKS!!! Hey even a vinyl Maxi would be cool!!!
rox-kuryliw said on February 7, 2006 11:09:
Jimmy Monell Treatment with marie singing it would be great on a roxette album.
RobS said on February 7, 2006 11:32:
I like them! esp the Jimmy Monell Treatment, it’s almost like a different song.
Sanna said on February 7, 2006 12:52:
I love the original song but these remixes are not for my taste.. don’t like them at all.

It is number 12 on CDON downloads!
18 on the official swedish download toplist (1st week in the chart)
Remco said on February 7, 2006 15:47:
The Love for Sale mix is OK, but Monell’s mix is too far away from the original in my opinion. Don’t like that one too much...
harriej said on February 7, 2006 17:05:
I prefer the original version.
Maybe I must get used to it, but after hearing the remixes 2 times, I don’t like them so much as the original.
CRIZ said on February 7, 2006 17:34:
Hahaha..I miss some “time goes by so slowly and some ABBA in the Jimmy Monell Treatment-mix....;)..but the Love-for-sale-mix is okay!!
per_mson said on February 8, 2006 08:09:
The “Jimmy Monell” mix is at least a real mix of the song... meaning that someone putted some effort in it. The “Love-For-Sale” on the other hand sounds as if someone just added a beating drum and that is something any idiot can do (and they do a lot nowadays to nice old songs... ugh!!)... ;)
eBay said on February 8, 2006 08:28:
Now we’re talking!!!
The Love-For-Sale Remix could even be a hit Europe wide!
eBay said on February 8, 2006 08:57:
Does anyone else feel quite upset that Gessle and Co might have international success with that song?
tevensso (moderator) said on February 8, 2006 10:24:
Why would that upset someone? I thought that was a good thing.
eBay said on February 8, 2006 10:47:
Well, the thing is, this seems to be a huge new chapter for Mr. Gessle.. I mean, that song with such good remixes does have the potential to be huge outside of Sweden.. Of course I would love seeing Mr. Gessle having great success internationally.. but knowing it would be without Marie would be quite sad.. or am I the only one feeling like that??
Rich-UK said on February 8, 2006 11:29:
Hi eBay. Well the song has not (yet) been scheduled for international release, and personally I think that tracks such as “I Like It Like That” or “Jo-Anna Says” would be more successful. But I would be delighted to see Son Of A Plumber achieve international success with this song or any other. Perhaps Roxette would have recorded another album by now if Marie had been more healthy and willing but she hasn’t been so I wish Gessle well in his projects. If at least the success raises his profile in Europe before a Roxette release later in the year then that has to be a good thing for both Marie and Per. Just my thoughts from Rich ;-)
eBay said on February 8, 2006 13:09:
Well, Rich I suppose you’re making a good point there.. would be great if that would become true..
GT_85 said on February 8, 2006 15:50:
DJ is #19 on the official downloadchart. Jo-Anna is still in top 10. I guess the official chart is more interesting than the CDON chart;-)
coyboyusa said on February 8, 2006 19:45:
i hope to god crap like that isnt done to any new rox material how can anyone listen to that?
Baby-C said on February 9, 2006 01:52:
@ebay:
It could actually be quite good for Roxette if Per got a bit of success internationally with his solo-stuff. Just look what happened here in Sweden back in 2003 and 2004. In ’03 Per had success with his soloalbum “Mazarin” and did a tour. Then in ’04 Gyllene Tider had a HUGE success with their “GT25-tour”. I do believe that a part of that huge success was created the year before, since Pers solo tour sort of worked as a “teaser” or something like that. And ofcourse, also got some new fans to join the joyride.
So.. with some interviews and TV-appearances internationally, Per has the ultimate opportunity to sort of say.. “oh and by the way, Roxette will come back soon”. If that’s the case ofcourse.
People might not think much about it at the time, but still, there would be some interest created and maybe, just maybe, people would start asking for Roxette again.
andi11 said on February 9, 2006 18:31:
by the way: the single has entered the official swedish charts at #27.

roxtexanet said on February 10, 2006 00:48:
mmm... #27 is quite disappointing. I thought this one had more momentum than that somehow (RixFM hitvarning, etc.)... ah well, at least it reversed the downward slide of the album. On to “I Like It Like That” please! (-:
plectrum said on February 10, 2006 01:53:
forgive me but everybody is entitled to their opinion & my opinion is that per should stick to what he does best & thats play the guitar not go round making music suitable for x-factor/pop idol,c’mon per you can rise higher than this.
zaine said on February 10, 2006 09:41:
i like the mixes. I prefer the Jimmy Monell Treatment, veeeery funky and a big contrast to the original. I could see this version getting played in some clubs in Brighton! not so keen on the love-for-sale mix though
Roxrider_USA said on February 10, 2006 16:55:
Hi!
Could anyone of you tell me if it’s possible for someone like me, who doesn’t live in the European continent, to download the remixes from thr Mr DJ promo?

A little help for the stupid (me) Does being released commercially means released as a single - like a cd2 right? Cause if so, woot ! Isnt March 3 a Friday? Weird day to release it eh?
tevensso (moderator) said on February 20, 2006 20:17:
CD single yes. Dunno if Friday is a weird day. Normally singles are released on Wednesdays in Sweden, but maybe this is special as it is a remix single.
