synesthesia

On the Per-Chat on 14th March I have read that Per have “synesthesia” (is it written right?). You that thing where someone “can see what he hear”?
Didn´t know that before. What do you know about that? Maybe it´s the reason for Per writing such great music!

I mean what you wrote!
In the chat mentioned on the news of TDR I read a question about that. On Pers answer I didn´t find out definitly if he have synesthesia.
Someone knows something about it? Would be interesting to know. I´m interested in synesthesia and if maybe synesthesia have influence on Pers music...

opsss...sorry! I misunderstood your post, i read it quite in a hurry. Indeed I rewrote your words...should go to sleep sooner....:-)

It´s not really a “defect”. It´s also no illness. It´s just another way to “see” the world. In the brain are connections between for example the “see-center” and the “hear-center”. Some peoples can fox example smell a sound or something like that. those people doesn´t notice that sometimes for a very long time in their lives because for them it´s normal. And of course IT IS normal. Everyone “sees” the world with different “eyes”! Most times the whole family have synesthesia...
So, is someone here who knows about it (in conncetion with per)? Someone claimed that he or she read about it in a swedish interview....

Duh! I said that the bunch of YOU made it sound like it’s a defect!
Galning said on March 16, 2006 15:13:
With which words did I make it sound like it´s a birth defect? Can you tell me which part of my text made you think that I would say it´s a birth defect?
I didn´t want statements of (bored) people who can only discuss topics like “What´s your favorite Roxette songs” or “Make your favorite Rox-Best-Of-CD” in my topic. That´s uninteresting for me.
PLEASE IN FUTURE ONLY ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS ASKED IN MY TOPIC! That´s the only reason I started this topic.
purplemedusa said on March 16, 2006 15:19:
I simply repeated as it seem you didn’t understand me the first time around!
And yeah I hope that VISA create a seperate forum for the useless topics you refer too - they anoy the hell outa me too!
Galning said on March 16, 2006 15:40:
I know that you “simply repeated” your first message in your second message.
But you still didn´t tell why you think that I made it sound the way you think... come on, forget it. It´s not so important now...
Sad that it´s not possible to get better answers in this forum. That´s why I´m not around anymore in TDR. I used to have the second most answers on topics in the Years 2000/2001 (before it broke down in August 2001). But as the years have gone by I became too adult for this forum. Very sad. I was the biggest TDR fan at that time...
I would prefer if there are only 1% of the Topics - but these with sence. And the funniest thing is that the people here think that Per really reads this forum.

If you want decent answers try come up with a clearer question... please remind me of your original q!

The first time I listened that Per has it was on the chat, it surprissed me, I didn’t knew.
Somedays ago I read an article on the newspaper about it, and it said that it’s impossible to write good songs or something like that if you had it. Too many experiments were made and the results shows that no one with synesthesia see the same that other people with the same... quality (?).
My english went a little entangled, hope you understand it =P

saw this on that wikipedia link .......
Synaesthesia is a common effect of some hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD or mescaline.
so thats what happened when he recorded Vulnerable!
;-)

@sommartider: I think some people doesn´t have the synesthesia very intensive. There are many ways to have synesthesia (so I guess it´s not possible to say that for those people it´s impossible to write good songs). I ones saw a TV-Report about that... I was impressed by it and therefore I´m interested in it. It could be impossible to write songs with it if the impressions are too intensive. There was a man how smelled the words others said. If he was cooking (he owns a restaurant) and someone was taking to him he became very angry because he smelled too many things.
And I also heard about it the first time in the Per chat (that Per have it...). I believe that it´s possible that it makes songwriting easier. If you can paint pictures with a melody you can be sure that you use the right colors which suits eachother well...
Maybe something for “Ask Per”. I´ll try it... if he ever answers our questions again one day ;-)
I think I will check out wikipedia now...

Well the point is that people “don´t have” synesthesia, “they are” synesthetic. I think it´s a gift, a nice way to see the world. So nothing´s wrong with Per, in fact, it can explain why he can write songs so different (compare early GT with any Roxette song for example, could be “evolution” but with a help from his senses) or why he can explain feelings, so good in his lyrics.
Could be a reason or maybe it´s no related at all.

Don’t know the english meaning for this word. All i can tell you is the meaning of a similiar word in italian (could be the same or not). In italian “sinestesia” is, while you’re writing something, tipically a poetry (or the words in a song), when you refer to a subject combining it with the wrong sense. Try to make some examples to better explain:
Smelling a colour
Watching a sound
Tasting a smell and so on....
In english could have a different meaning though...
