Rox-Compilations: No songs from "Pearls..." - Why?
Tempest said on March 7, 2006 17:14:
There are lots of Roxette compilations now, but none of them have had any songs from “Pearls of Passion”... Why?
I know it’s probably because none of the singles from that album were as big as “The Look”, “It Must Have Been Love”, “Joyride”, etc... but I still think “Pearls of Passion” should be represented on a Roxette compilation, with the song “Neverending Love”, for example.
Agree? Disagree?

Yep I always thought this too. Personally I’d also have had Chances on one of them too as that is a great song ! Neverending Love, Soul Deep got a mention in the Pop Hits booklit tho didnt they?

Per and Marie don’t seem to be very enthusiastic about “Pearls” in general... they certainly haven’t gone out of their way to include “Pearls” songs in the set lists of their shows (except for “Soul Deep” of course!)... it also took forever to get a re-release... if they’d had an international re-release in 90 or 91, they’d have sold truckloads of that album, but 1997...?! I think most of us already had at least a bootleg by then!

I always thought they should include POP songs on Hits albums. I used to play POP (being always my fav album) to loads of people and usually they all liked at least 1 song much more than the other hits. I always thought it’s weird. :) And, btw, I have a colleague here at work who started liking Surrender after I brainwashed her with it :)))

pearls wasnt a world wise release so they wouldn’t include songs from it on an international hits package

Well, it’s not surprising, because compilations aim to have songs on them that are familiar to general listeners... few people who aren’t hardcore fans will have heard these tracks outside of Sweden.

Another question: how does POP sound to you now in 2006? It is dated but not in negative way :) catchy sugary 80´s synths me likes them.

I think they only wanted “international hits” on the internationally released compliations. I remember reading that somewhere many years ago

I can understand why Pearls was ignored in 1995 when Don’t Bore Us came out.
But: The Pop Hits could have easily been stretched into an 18-track set featuring Neverending Love, for example. A cool remix version of the song maybe?
AND why don’t the booklets of the latest compilations mention anything about “Goodbye To You”. It isn’t such a great single, but it did well better on the charts than Soul Deep or I Call Your Name (which get to be mentioned). It charted as high as #9 (saleswise) while Soul Deep only reached some #18 position and ICYN didn’t even chart.

Is there a link where I can read all the swedish peaks ( saleswise) of Roxette??

I agree that Neverending Love should have been included in The Pop Hits. It wasn’t an international single, but it was a single and quite a big hit in Sweden. Fortunately, it’s included in DVD’s :)

Now that you’ve mentioned it...
Yeah, that’s got me too.
