How to capture Rox-video stuff into PC?

There are very cheap convertors available... welll.. that depends on where you live... that convert mono jack to stereo and vise versa.. If you can’t find it, you can set your capturing software settings to save audio in mono. The third way is to extract the audio track from the video file, convert and recompress it to mono, then attach back, using virtualdub, and for editing - cooledit or some other wave editor

Hello!
I wis somebody could help me with one little problem. I tried to capture some of my Rox-recordings from my video recorder and save it on my pc to share it. ANd everything is ok, except one thing - my video recorder, unfortunately, is mono, so the output file has sound only in one speaker. I‘d like to ask you if there is software which could convert the sound into 2-speakers sound or software which captures the video with 2-speakers sound automatically. First I tried Windows movie maker. Than I tried Pinnacle studio, but this software doesn‘t work properly on my pc, I don‘t know why (the cables are conected ok, as Windows Movie Maker works good). I know that Pinnacle studio would have a better sound in output files... Maybe you know another software?

If I see it right, you have following connection: VCR=scart output mono. PC capture card or soundcard=cinch (or 3.5mm jack) input stereo. Okay. Easy solution: Buy an Y-adaptor. This is simply a small part with one input and two outputs (exists in both cinch and jack shapes). Put it between the cables and you are done. Price ca. 5 Euro/Dollar. Maybe you need to adjust the volume a bit but it does work. :-)

One word about Pinnacle. If you have the studio software, never install the 9.4 update. If you already have Studio 10, update as much as you can!!! ;-)

edit: Here you see a picture of what I mean. The one you need is exactly the other way around of this one: http://www.hama.de/bilder/00041/abb/00041622abb.jpg

If you record the track in mono, it should be played back over 2 speakers. It seems you may be recording to a stereo track, and with only one input connected it only records to one channel.

If you can extract the audio track, you can use a program like Goldwave (www.goldwave.com) to mix it to a stereo track.

Thank you guys for your reply.
About my connection - this is a photo of my all cables:

As you can see my jack is mono, so maybe if I get stereo one it will be ok. But I think there are no such things with one input cinch and one output stereo jack. Thenicekai, as you can see this cable which you mentioned is not so proper for me, I guess.
This is the first time I do such things, so forgive me my luck of knowledge ;0)
Now I have Pinnacle 10. I‘ll take your advise and try to update it very soon!
Thank you!

P.S. Goldwave it‘s a good idea, but this way of making the files will take me soooooo long time ;0) But if it would be the only way...

Good job, mbroxer!

The easiest way is to get an jack adaptor from mono to stereo. Done.

Goldwave and other editors are no good choice. You have to split video- and audio streams, than convert the audio and put them back together. Too many sources for errors and nonsyncronity. (If you had a pro software like Adobe Premiere it would be no problem. One click and you would have your result.)

Good luck with Studio 10! Maybe, you can use the Pinnacle forum, it is free! There are also audio plugins available for S10.

Thank you very much! I‘ll try to buy this kind of mono-to-stereo jack :0)
I don‘t know too much about Pinnacle, but I‘ll check this forum, maybe I‘ll learn something interesting. Thanx!

Have to disagree about sycnhonization problems. If you use virtualdub (with mod extension) and any decent wave editor (I use cool edit pro), you get no sync problems.

Yeah, Cool edit pro seems to be really cool :0)

i really need to sit down one day and put all my tapes on dvd before they turn to dust :(
