The way of Roxette

Don’t get me wrong its not another discussion about do they continue or not. This topic is ment to be a review of their history. How did they change through the time how did you recognize the changes between the styles of Roxette! What should Roxette be if there was be a comeback!

To me it seems like Roxette made changes that had not fit them anyway. I was not able to understand the change between cbb and hand!

So how have they changed through the times, what do you think about it and what should they be if there was a comback?

they have given a big step, although for others, it was only an mistake...

For me, the really BRILLIANT Roxette ended with the guitars fading - that is after C!B!B! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been admiring them since then as well, but HAND, RS are just not what Roxette was famous for all the other years. Sure, you may claim that such change was a part of inevitable (?) progress, yet I don’t see it that way.

Still longing for the guitar sound to come back

guitars not bad, but personally I think with HAND, P&M have delivered us some of their best songs (i.e. COY, WICF, IWTALLT, Stars, Staring At The Ground, Beautiful things)

ye i though HAND was a VERY creative album , alot of different stuff, very underated, M&P would get bored doing the same album twice.

I think between every album you could see the change. But HAND was quite a surprise, probably because it was so long since the last official album (CBB)

The first time I listened to HAND, I thought “what have they done”, but after a few listens I realised that many of the songs were classic Roxette.

As I read once “HAND has more potential hit singles on it than Madonna’s True Blue”. I still think thats the case and that if the album was promoted properly then people wouldn’t be saying it’s the album that “Roxette were trying to be cool”, but rather it’s Roxette’s comeback album.

@RobS, totally agree with ya.

I agree that the sound was noticable in between every album. But the acoustic / band change for Tourism after Joyride was quite big for me.
As Per said, Tourism was written mainly for the live band and Joyride was written for the studio - I noticed this instantly!

I adore both C!B!B! and HAND........the thing I love about HAND is its production consistency. The songs are consistently outstanding and diverse......C!B!B! works in that it’s musically similar throughout.......altho sometimes I think there are less obvious hits on C!B!B! than HAND........asides from C!B!B! the song, I owuldn’t have selected any of the other singles and veered towards Lies, Whole Way, I’m Sorry, Love Is All and Go To Sleep....just a personal opinion. The thing with HAND is that there’s so much potentially hit-worthy...Crush On You & Beautiful things alone wouldabeensmashsingles! I guess the main thing you can admire about Rox is that they have not stood still stylistically, yet still produced brilliantly consistent songs. An admirable feat. Yes, their change of direction may have alienated audiences, but by the same token, staying the same from album to album could have damaged them worse, as fans didn’t have anything new & diverse to listen to. Who knows....the next album could be reggae, lol......Marie & Per in dreds....now that would be worth seeing, lol

I agree with Robs!

well said, rob...

*takes a bow* Thank you very much :-)
