What do you normally do over the weekend? What are you doing this weekend?

Well, in Utah, it’s Pioneer Day.
I don’t know how accurate this is (I wasn’t there nor is it my religion), but the Mormon Pioneers trekked across the US and settled in Utah in 1847. We have BBQ’s, the Days of 47 Rodeo, fireworks and so on down the line.
Now, when I was growing up, the 4th of July and the 24th were always serious holidays (fireworks and stuff). Imagine my surprise when I went to Texas in 84 - 85 and they didn’t celebrate the 24th (first time I learned the difference between State and National holidays). Of course, it was a REAL TRIP to travel to England in 85 -87 and discover that the 4th wasn’t celebrated (keep in mind, I was like 10 / 11 years old and not that far along in my studies to understand).
Once I got all that stuff sorted out, life was good. I still enjoy the fireworks and stuff, so, while I don’t exactly celebrate the 24th like everyone else... I let them have their fun, and tag along for the ride :o)

One thing we all might consider doing this weekend is writing a few letters to some UK MP’s asking when they’re going to finally get going on legalising gay marriage, like Spain’s parliament did.
ncurran said on July 20, 2005 23:02:
Olddag, gay people can take part in a “civil union” in the UK from 5th December. Ok, they havent called it marriage, but in practice the unions will hold all the same rights and responsibilites as a straight marriage. The only reason they havent called it “marriage” is because of the religious connotations it holds, which i dont agree with, but hey...its a step forward.
Rather than writing to UK MPs, maybe we should write to US senators and congressmen? Just a thought...

I will read a lot (I’d rather not say the subject) and explore the neighbourhood, since I moved last week and I still don’t know where the avondwinkel’s are!! :P
Besides, there’s a nice park and a lake by my street, Amsterdam does not get nicer than this! :P
LittleSpooky said on July 21, 2005 10:09:
Santi: I’m moving in with you. Gotta be better than here O_o
Santi said on July 21, 2005 10:33:
@LS: You don’t even want to know the rent I’m paying! It is 64 Euros a MONTH! That makes some $75 I guess... can you believe that for a 28 m2 apartment in Amsterdam!?!? :D
I can’t, I feel the luckiest man in town these days! :P
kachina008 said on July 21, 2005 12:00:
64 euros??? are you sure you didn’t miss a number in there somewhere? OMG i can hardly believe it!
LittleSpooky said on July 21, 2005 13:48:

This weekend my sister is coming through with my nephew for a visit, so i’ll probably be changing nappies, feeding him and going for walks. All the exciting baby stuff. Have to make the most of my time with them though as they are moving to Belfast next week, so i wont see them as often.
