EMA
roxlad said on November 18, 2004 22:49:
Anyone seen the EMA tonight? I thought they were great!
ncurran said on November 19, 2004 04:53:
Roxhard, you have summed up perfectly what i would have said, so theres no need for me to say anything....i absolutely hate the way the awards have been americanised. I was so pissed off last year when they brought the awards to scotland and chose Christina Aguilera as the host
roxlad said on November 19, 2004 18:23:
@I agree with you guys. I have nothing against American music but there were not many Europeans out there.
About the EMA being great I mean that I have enjoyed the show, there was a free concert in front of the Colosseum and that was great!
I hoped Franz Ferdinand were going to win something but they didn’t :-(
xarrrr said on November 19, 2004 20:18:
franz ferdinand rule! how the hell can other crap people like usher win! pah!!!
i choose to ignore this stuff haha!
roxlad said on November 19, 2004 22:00:
@xarrrr cool that you like FF, I heard the album in a bookshop and liked it from day 1. Unfortunately they are not so popular on MTV. The only video I saw on MTV Italy is ’This Fffire’
RoxHard said on November 20, 2004 04:37:
Come to England... FF are played on MTV UK or TMF (an MTV UK spin-off) every 10 minutes!! I really liked them at first, and I still like their album... but if I see Take Me Out on MTV one more time I’m gonna throw something through my TV! ;-)
ncurran said on November 20, 2004 07:11:
Franz Ferdinand are great...i havent been subjected to the constant exposure because i am not in the UK at the moment.....and of course i am a little biased because i am scottish....but i think there is so much good music coming from european bands at the moment in general....there is no excuse for the list of nominees at these awards
purplemedusa said on November 20, 2004 07:16:
I have not been able to watch it... can any tell me who performed?
roxlad said on November 20, 2004 14:21:
@purple on www.mtv.it/ema you should be able to see some videos (it’s in Italian though).
About FF, I have just found their videography (they don’t show them on TV but at least they do on the Internet...).

I thought the MTV people were going to un-americanise the Europe Music Awards...But nothing basically happened...
However, I was glad that such artists like Duran Duran, Tiziano Ferro, Franz Ferdinand, The Hives, Jamelia and Brian McFadden appeared at the awards...
Overall, I truly think that the host definitely should have been European! ... Xzibit?! Come on!!! What’s he got to do with the “Europe Music Awards”?
The _show_ was ok, though... Was pretty surprised about Britney winning “Best Female” and Muse the “Best alternative” categories...
purplemedusa said on November 21, 2004 07:16:
WHAT???!!!! Did Tizianno perform???? Aaaaargh... if so I’m SOOOO making a plan to watch it tonight!!
Starrox said on November 21, 2004 09:50:
He did! BTW, watching the last few minutes is probably enough, the end credits started rolling while he was still on stage...
roxlad said on November 21, 2004 14:13:
@animal was Brian Mcfadden there??? I didn’t notice, maybe it was when I got up to make myself a cup of tea, dam it!!!
@purple Tiziano performed ’Sere nere’, you could see he was very excited and nervous, his voice was trembling. Good to know that some artists don’t take anything for granted.
purplemedusa said on November 21, 2004 14:21:
OMG... ’Sere nere’... I just get goosebumps if I hear that song!! GOt to be one of his best on his last album!!! I’m so taping the repeat tongiht!!! Thanx for letting me know... don’t tell me anything more!!!!
animalkingdom said on November 21, 2004 15:18:
@ roxlad
Yeah Brian McFadden presented an award with the two Backstreet Boys..
roxlad said on November 21, 2004 19:16:
@purple my favourites are ’Xverso’ ’Non me lo so spiegare’ and his last single ’Ti voglio bene’
@animal... mmm.... If I had known before!!! Well in any case if he didn’t sing I didn’t lose much.... apart from a good looking guy.
purplemedusa said on November 21, 2004 20:58:
Roxlad... not heard Xverso ... it’s not on Rosso Relativo or 111 - or atleast not on my disks! But I’m a huge fan of this boy!!
roxlad said on November 21, 2004 21:24:
@purple it’s track n.2 on ’111’. If you want I’ll send it to you via e-mail (about 5MB).
Maybe it’s written ’Perverso’ instead of ’Xverso’ I can’t remember.... in slang Italian ’x’ is short for ’per’
purplemedusa said on November 21, 2004 21:44:
Yeah Roxlad... got Perverso... it happens to be spinning on the stereo at the mo’! LOL
roxlad said on November 21, 2004 21:49:
@purple and vix *LOL* PS. I like some LP songs such as ’Numb’
purplemedusa said on November 22, 2004 12:43:
Roxlad... Saw his EMA performance; what can I say? This man just does not fail to suprise me!! AWESOME!!!! Very few male artists allow themselves to deliver art SO [assionately like he does... BTW I had no idea that Sere Nere was a single?! Eventhough I love most of his work, songs such as ’boom boom’, ’il bimbo dentro’, ’sere nere’ and ’temple bar’ REALLY gets me to curl up in a ball whilst allowing his artistry to flow over me! BTW... is there anywhere where I can get RR’s translations as my Italian is rather pigeon-like! LOL
coyboyusa said on November 22, 2004 14:10:
is it true there are gay themes in some of franz ferdinands songs? SOmeone told me ther ewas but i am saving up money for the new sarah mclachlan and nirvana box set so lol i don’t have a lot to throw around. As for the emas, is it just me or do their nominees and winniners seem like they r a whole year off? Usher in all intents and purposes has had 1 hit this yr with YEah linkin park has done better but in europe i don’t think they have at all or maybe i am wrong. As for the predominance of maerican acts, well i dont think the ema’s base their nominations on a polling of individual countries charts, its more a billboard top 40 or each country or international acts where fortunately or unfortunately alot of american acts show up. Honestly i dont’ knwo why people watch the awads shows anymore, they’ve alll become boring
purplemedusa said on November 22, 2004 14:50:
Coy... Nirvana box set?? Are u talking about the singles box? and yeah... thought the same thing esp with Outkast’s stuff -> wasn’t that like 2 years ago’s hits? And, we should not forget that MTV is afterall an US based company - no matter how many versions there are of MTV; ofcourse it’ll favour local artists first!! About awardshows... I fully agree with you - didn’t bother waching the entire show except for TZN’s performance right at the end! Seen one seen ’em all -> with only a few exceptions!
roxlad said on November 22, 2004 15:25:
@purple do you mean the song or the album translation? I know there is a site with English lyrics by TZN I’ll check it out for you
@cowboy FF have a song called ’Michael’ which was apparently inspired by a gay friend of the main singer of the band. I’m not very keen on the song but the lyrics are cool.
ncurran said on November 22, 2004 17:58:
coyboy, the franz ferdinand song with gay overtones is called “Michael”
Here are the lyrics. I think its just a bit of fun, tongue and cheek.
This is where I wanna be, so heavenly
So come and dance with me Michael
So sexy, I’m sexy
So come and dance with me Michael
I’m all that you see, you wanna see
So come and dance with me Michael
So close now, so close now
So come and dance with me
So come and dance with me
So come and dance with me
Michael, you’re the boy with all the leather hips
Sticky hair, sticky hips, stubble on my sticky lips
Michael, you’re the only one I’d ever want
Only one I’d ever want, only one I’d ever want
Beautiful boys on a beautiful dancefloor
Michael, you’re dancing like a beautiful dance whore
Michael waiting on a silver platter now
And nothing matters now
[backwards]
Call your mother, she’s worried about you
This is what I am, I am a man
So come and dance with me Michael
So strong now, it’s strong now
So come and dance with me Michael
I’m all that you see, you you wanna see
So come and dance with me Michael
So close now, it’s close now
So come and dance with me
So come and dance with me
So come and dance with me
Michael, you’re the boy with all the leather hips
Sticky hair, sticky hips, stubble on my sticky lips
Michael, you’re the only one I’d ever want
Only one I’d ever want, only one I’d ever want
Beautiful boys on a beautiful dancefloor
Michael, you’re dancing like a beautiful dance whore
Michael waiting on a silver platter now
And nothing matters now
Michael, you’re the only one I’d ever want
Only one I’d ever want, only one I’d ever want
Michael, you’re the only one I’d ever want
Only one I’d ever want, only one I’d ever want
Beautiful boys on a beautiful dancefloor
Michael, you’re dancing like a beautiful dance whore
Michael waiting on a silver platter now
And nothing matters now
Nothing matters
Nothing matters, oh yeah

@ coyboy
” Usher in all intents and purposes has had 1 hit this yr “
He he.. Are you crazy? Living in America?
Guess you don’t follow very closely what’s going on in the music world...
“Yeah” was followed by “Burn” (another BB#1, and European Top 10-hit), “Burn” was followed by “Confessions Part 2”(think it peaked at #2 in the U.S., also going quite successful in Europe), and lately “My Boo” featuring Alicia Keys going #1 on Billboard and still rising in numerous European countries..
That’s 4 hit singles...

Usher......did he mean utter as in utter crap?
purplemedusa said on November 28, 2004 17:09:
Roxlad... did u manage to find the webbie with TZN’s RR album translations? I’d be so greatfull...
roxlad said on November 28, 2004 19:47:
@purple Hi!!! I’ve looked around a bit on the net and I know many fans have got English translations of TZN’s songs. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a site where you can read them, you have to ask for them in the community. Here’s a good site: http://www.tizianoferro.com/community/
You probably already know this site but I think you could try to post a message in the English forum.
In any case I will continue my research and see what I can find. By the way, reading some Italian lyrics I have noticed that some songs are really personal and they don’t make much sense if you don’t know what’s the story behind it so if you read some weird translations you’ll know why!!!!
To give you an example.... the song ’Ti voglio bene’ which is the lastest single talks about the end of a friendship between two guys but to me it sounds like the end of a love affair!!! I’m not saying Tiziano is gay, maybe is because I identify myself with the song that way...
purplemedusa said on November 28, 2004 20:01:
I’ll do that Roxlad! Yes I do know the site... just thought there’ll be an easier way, but thanx!!
Speaking about him being gay... I read something he wrote once and though the exact same thing; can’t for the life of me remember what it was though!! But I guess I was slightly influenced by the extreme passion he delivers in his performances; it is rare to find such passion amongst straight men!! He is indeed an old soul and I’ll support his carreer all the way!!
roxlad said on November 28, 2004 21:02:
I agree with you Purple, I don’t know all his songs but everything I heard so far is very emotional and performed in a unique way.
You know he lives about 100 kms from where I am, sometimes I am tempted to go and look for him!!!
purplemedusa said on November 28, 2004 21:22:
LOL... now there’s a find!! But I would imagine that he’s rather easy to talk to and not full of himself!! I wouldn’t mind to have a conversation with him!! So it’s upto u to get his attention... LMAO!!
roxlad said on November 28, 2004 21:30:
My friend’s sister who works for Chef Express served him on the train once but that was before he became famous so she didn’t know him... she said he was very nice though. Well you never know he might catch another train sometime!
RoxHard said on November 19, 2004 02:07:
I thought they were rubbish... but that’s no surprise...
It is nothing but a big celebraty bash, it has nothing to do with music! MTV are only interested in getting big names to appear on their Red Carpet. That’s all that there is to it. Why else would Beyonce Knowles be nominated for “Best Album” 2 years in a row? It has nothing to do with music.
Linkin Park = Best Rock? R U kidding?!!?
Usher - Confession = Best Album? WHAT??!? I’ve heard it, and it has 2 good songs!!!
OK... I better stop talking about this now before I get distressed!!!
BTW: it’s been an unbelievable year for European (particularly Brittish) music, so why where 75% of the nominees American? And they were all soooo crap!!! It’s like MTV America is telling all the European channels who to nominate! Doesn’t that sound right?! It’s like some american saying “oh, Best Album? Let’s see... Usher, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Outkast... oh, let’s stick in a European. Let’s see... who do we know? OF COURSE - DIDO!!”.
Well, it’s obvious whoever is choosing the nominees is not listening to much European music...
