Gessle collected four Grammis awards
Written by tevensso on February 10, 2004 to Per Gessle.
STOCKHOLM - Last night, at Bern’s in Stockholm, Per Gessle collected four Grammis awards (the Swedish equivalent of the Grammy) out of seven nominations. He got the heaviest award; “Artist of the Year”, and also “Song of the Year” with “Här kommer alla känslorna” (the only category that wasn’t voted by a jury - Per got 65% of the votes), “Male Pop of the Year” and finally “Composer of the Year”. “I’m gonna party now, Åsa and I have even gotten a baby sitter!” Per says in Aftonbladet. “I’m so happy,” he continues, “I’m going to keep the awards at home for a while, just to look at them!”
Pop group Kent holds the record by getting seven Grammis awards at the same time.
The Swedish Grammis Award is, according to the record industry, the grandest prize an artist can get. According to the artists themselves it has a rather low status, since the nominations and winners usually are “politically” appointed. One record company can’t get too many awards.
The other three categories Per was nominated in were won by these acts: “Lyricist of the Year” rapper Timbuktu, “Producer of the Year” Jocke Berg and Simon Nordberg, “Album of the Year” The Cardigans.
The show was broadcast on TV4.

I haven’t listened yet to the Cardigans album, but at least Per thinks it’s the best disc of the year! So they seem to deserve it.

Well, “Mazarin” was definitely the best album of last year (both sales-wise and quality-wise), but if he had to lose out on that award, I’m glad it was to the Cardigans’ “Long Gone Before Daylight.” The album is wonderful, very warm and acoustic, highly recommended (and I never liked the Cardigans at all before this album came out!).

will new Gyllene Tider songs sound glamrock-ish? who knows... make-up can make me think about it:

Congrats Per!!! I’m especially glad you received the “Artist of the year” award and of course, “Composer of the year”. You really deserved them.
I’m not sure what to say about the Album Of The Year award because I love “Mazarin”, but I also think “Long Gone Before Daylight” is a great album...

Now being mean: how did he know he’d win? He already got a baby sitter and got ready for party?!!
(I suppose he didn’t call the baby sitter during the show...”Oh, I’ve just won! Could you please...I am going to party till...”) he-he-he...it’s all political...
Congratulations anyway...He definitely deserves the awards!

Judit: Why didn´t Eva Dahlgren and the Buddaboys win annything? I don´t understand that =)
Jud (moderator) said on February 10, 2004 21:22:
why should they? she wasn’t nominated and then the album wasn’t commercial enough? ;)
And then, Eva won 5 Grammis for her “En Blekt ... ” and she got a depression afterwards, so she better not win any anymore or 1 every 10 years or so, next Grammi comes with the new solo album in 2005 :P

The show was awful awful awful. I hope they never show anything like it on TV again.

Not that I can read Swedish *at all*, but from what I can make of it, I think Per is saying that the album (“Mazarin”) was recorded while Marie was still sick. He began the album alone but Marie helped out so the award is partly for her (?? REALLY stretching my guessing skills here!). Then (and this I could actually read!) he says that he spoke to her this evening and will call her again in the morning.
Someone who actually knows Swedish and isn’t just faking it like me want to fix that up?
tevensso (moderator) said on February 11, 2004 08:19:
No Chris, you done good! The only thing is that Marie is as happy about Mazarin as Per is. [Even though] She didn’t help out. :)

Ahhhhh.... thank you, Thomas! My Swedish sucks slightly less than I had thought it did (-:

Did I miss it the first time I checked the article or the info ’Per got 65% of the votes’ was added later?

I think it’s silly and pathetic (but not at all surprising) that he didn’t get Album of the Year. After all, it’s all political.
