EMI releases new Roxette CDs in Russia
Written by AntiMario on January 7, 2004 to Roxette.
ST. PETERSBURG - Russian EMI representative Gala Records Inc. has recently released special low priced CDs. Among those are Roxette’s “The Ballad Hits” (5975512) and “The Pop Hits” (5975492). The releases are copy protected, have no bonus tracks and no bonus EP. The price will be approximately $8.
There is also a special red label on the sleeves - inserts, not booklets - saying “For distribution in the Russian territory and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States). Except for Moldavia and Ukraine.”

mm isn’t this price of 8$ still high for Russian ppl?

@Junkie: absolutno s toboy soglasen! No raz uzh taki protrepalis’...
It’s a stupid idea and nothing more. One usually buys either piratic copy or license copy here in Russia. And what is it they offer us!? No bonus tracks, no bonus EP (all that stuff is placed even on the piratic Roxette CD’s), no booklets, and $8 priced while piratic CD costs $3!! ... stupid people...
And by the way, could anyone please explain me what means the label on recent Roxette CD’s: “Copy controlled” or “Copy protected”? I’ve got the license copies of the albums and what? ...I can easily copy the albums in any quantities on my CD-Rewriter device... the same thing I can do with PG’s Mazarin album...

@Judith: YES! You are quite right, spanish friend :)
I mean that real Roxers in Russia bought/buy/will buy the international releases of the band. While an amateur always prefers the low priced piratic stuff.

HMV are doing it cheap too... same happened with Tourism, back in 1995... bought it in WH Smith for £4.99. Everywhere else was £16.99 +

Hmm, I wonder why not Moldova and Ukraine...If I lived there right now, I wouldn’t be very pleased with that fact.

@n-Somnia:
Relax, fellow :))
People in Moldavia only think about how to get a piece of bread. Very very poor country... Something like this is doing to Ukraine. So, if would live in one of the countries you wouldn’t think a lot where to buy Roxette’s CD :))

The release is official. Comes from EMI.
By the way, forgot to mention - the printing quality on CDs is totally better than on EU releases. Strange, huh?
CDs are made in Moscow.
to junkie: now the whole world knows - so? You will get HUGE orders to buy CDs. Your own added value is your business.
P.S. In some shops they sell this CD for 11$.
Junkie said on January 8, 2004 12:55:
@AM: Why are you talking about my “added value”? Noone talks here about how have you sold Per’s ’Mazarin’ CD to Viktorangel..... More to that I’m not selling any CDs to anyone in here!!!!! Or do you think, while working at a pharmacy I don’t have anything to do in my spare time??

keep the personal attacks private, please.
According to the Spanish newspaper ElMundo.es, the BPI (British Phonographic Industry??) is investigating online stores like amazon, play and cd-wow that are selling CDs at such a low rate to see if they are following the law when selling them so cheap, and if it’s fair that they sell the CDs cheaper than “normal” stores.. if it’s against the competence laws bla bla.
They also want to find out if such stores are selling products bought outside EU (asia), cuz this *could* force all the prices to go down bla bla bla (and of course, they don’t want that).
But on the other side, the BPI knows that the online stores sell thousands of CDs... So what the hell??
What do they want? That we end up listening to no music at all? Soon won’t be able to listen to music, unless the artist himself puts it online for download!! :S

Jud (moderator) said on January 9, 2004 08:35:

“I mean that real Roxers in Russia bought/buy/will buy the international releases of the band.”
Same with us in Bulgaria, but i don’t think it is a useless release .Of course they must realise this when was international realise date and there was a small but some kind of promotion..
BUT–this is the way to fight with piratic stuffs–a good CD with good price!!
The price of piratic stuffs will be always lower but when i can buy the real CD for 6,5 euro instead of fake for 3-4 euro even if i’m amateur i may buy the real one..
As i said before most of other companies sells CD here for 6,5 euro and it’s normal ,this is the way that the smart people must go,cos when the people don’t have money to eat the piratic CD is not a moral problem anymore...
Finaly EMI understood that!!
So when the music companies understand that the price are really ungrounded high- we will have possibility to make a right choice and things will go the better way for everyone..
For example before one year we can buy the official CD of Bon Jovi or Eminem for 6,5 on every store in every minute..but the only way to get Roxette was to order it for 15-20 euro and wait a month or more .
Now we have Ballads hits with booklets on bulgarian ,with pix,oficial.. i would say–the most beatiful CD in the stores of Bulgaria–for 6,5 euro—isn’t it easy now for everyone to make a right choice..
(i even think that the cd are almoust sold out already. realise wasn’t very big–isn’t the same with Russian CD? )
So EMI–low prices–more money..
The next step–please make available to order Per DVD from all over the world, cos it’s strange -i can order Mazarin CD but i can’t order Mazarin DVD!!??
;-)

2 Malmo:
Who told you that? I mean, yeah, Ukrainians are much poorer than Americans and Swedes but calling it “a very poor country” means you’ve never been here. It’s just the difference between the poor and the rich is very big in Ukraine. Same in Russia (Moscow is a bit different thing). And 8 bucks for a Roxette CD is not that much. I mean, for a legal CD.

A two weeks ago I found official Ukrainian releases of TBH and TPH (both without bonus-tracks). The actual discs of this releases has different image. Cover the same.
