As REM is putting together a Greatest Hits album this fall what would u like to be included?
It’s set to include 18 songs and it is already revealed that the upper part of the tracklist is gonna look like this:
1) MAN ON THE MOON
2) THE GREAT BEYOND
3) BAD DAY
4) KENNETH
5) RENO
6) LOSING MY RELIGION
Another 12...What would YOU include?
I’d go for:
- Bang & Blame
- Drive
- Daysleeper
- Lotus
- Shiny Happy Ppl
- How the West was won
- E-bow the letter
- At my most beautiful
- Imitation of life
- I’ll take the rain

Well, there is another new song called “Animal” and I believe that Stipe said in an interview that there would be at least one song from “Green”.
Therefore I think that it could be:
- Orange Crush
- Shiny Happy People
- Drive
- Everybody Hurts
- Bang & Blame
- Strange Currencies
- E-bow The Letter
- Electrolite
- Daysleeper
- At My Most Beautiful
- Imitation Of Life
- Animal
But I would personally prefer to see “Get Up”, “The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite” and “Crush With Eyeliner” and “Bittersweet Me”.
There are so many singles that won’t make the “Best Of”, which just goes to show that REM are a top quality group.
The new single “Bad Day” is also very good, it’s on my shopping list!
All the best, Rich-UK

I’d expect these songs to appear on it:
Bittersweet me
Shiney happy people
Orange crush
Stand
Drive
The sidewinder sleeps tonite
Man on the moon
Everybody hurts
Nightswimming
What’s the frequency, Kenneth?
Bang & blame
Tongue
It’s the end of the world as we know it
Strange currencies
Crush with eyeliner
The great beyond
Plus any I’ve missed. :)

I don’t think “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It” will be on this compilation because it’s on their previous compilation, “Eponymous” and it was originally released on 1987’s “Document”.
The title of this greatest hits compilation is “ARTWORK FOR IN TIME, THE BEST OF R.E.M 1988-2003”.

“E-bow The Letter” has been added to the list at http://www.remhq.com/
They’re adding the songs day by day in Stipe’s handwriting, I wonder where he got that idea, he he!!
Yeah, “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It” is on their previous record label so won’t figure.
I must say that the verse of the new single, “Bad Day”, is so similar it’s probably just as well!!
All the best, Rich-UK

@Rich-UK Heard “Bad Day” on the radio yesterday, and I rather liked it. Sounds like their old stuff—especially “End Of The World”, at least in spots.

Oh deer! I guess it’s a nice set of songs but to skip “Bang & Blame”! Or “Drive”...Helloooo!! :(

I’m disappointed in the tracklisting. Coyboy is right. Too many “miss” singles here. Where’s “Shiny Happy People”? “Bang And Blame”? 2 of their biggest singles right there.

OMG crap track listing really, love shiny happy people. :(
coyboyusa said on September 24, 2003 12:16:
Aactually i am more disappointed cause the rumours were this was supposed to be a new album not another hits compilation
Rich-UK said on September 24, 2003 13:46:
R.E.M. has had so many singles that it was always going to be hard for them to compile a hits album.
They missed out some very classic songs (e.g. Kenneth) when I saw them in London, but with such a big collection of songs this is inevitable.
I think that the track-listing is OK. I would have preferred to see “Crush With Eyeliner” and “Bittersweet Me” but I doubt that they could have produced 18 tracks that would have completely satisfied everybody.
I do understand that there will be a second CD with live songs, demos etc. so maybe some of the songs they missed out will be on there.
I also understand that most of the material for their next album is written so we won’t have to wait too long for more new material.
All the best, Rich-UK
