Like peas in a pod, Roxette songs lined up for public consumption
Written by Lars-Erik_Olson on August 15, 2002 to Releases.
STOCKHOLM - EMI Sweden and Roxette’s management issued this release today (somewhat strangely, in Swedish). Here’s a full translation:
ROXETTE COLLECT THEMSELVES… this autumn when they come out with the record ”LovePeas – The Ballad Hits”. As the title reveals, Roxette have collected their biggest ballads on one album. These are songs that people the whole world over have a strong relationship to. ”It Must Have Been Love” is still today one of the world’s most played songs. In the USA alone, it’s been played over 3 million times on the radio since it came out in 1990. From Roxette’s lastest two albums ”Have A Nice Day” and ”Room Service” there have been such hits as ”Wish I Could Fly” (one of Europe’s most played songs in 1999), ”Anyone” and ”Milk And Toast And Honey” (that even after one year, still resides on radio lists around the world).
New material!
Roxette has been in Polar Studio and recorded two brand new ballads, the first single ”A Thing About You” that will be released on October 14th and “Breathe.” In addition, the first edition of the album will include an EP with four songs, of which three are previously released.
”PopPeas – The Beat Hits” will follow up ”LovePeas – The Ballad Hits” in the spring. As part two of this project, it will include further new material along with all of the collected pop tunes.
Jonas Åkerlund directs
Jonas Åkerlund is highly involved in everything from ideas to packaging, photos to advertising spots… so naturally he’ll be directing the video for the first single ”A Thing About You”. Jonas has previously directed no less than 14 Roxette-related videos.
In a world where it’s hard to hang on for 15 minutes in the world’s spotlight, 15 years is almost unreal! Per and Marie got their big breakthrough in 1989 with the tune ”The Look” and followed that up with the multi-platinum album ”Joyride” in 1991. In principle, they’ve been at or around the top of some list or another… someplace in the world… ever since then. They’ve sold over 40 million albums and 15 million singles. Their latest disc ”Room Service” sold 1 million and the European tour last autumn was seen by 200,000 people.

How long before we get a clip of the new song? And thank God that is not the cover of the album. - Billy

In the first moment I thought it was the real cover but I’m glad it’s not. The typo is way too cheap.
Hey, Jonas is doing all the artwork for cover and promo! He did a great job for Room Service!

ahahah i also thought first that this was the cover and thought “well, what else is to come?” ;) huh imagine the cover looks like that ;))) (nothing against the artwork, i mean the idea for the cover is funny and well, with such a title it would fit, I mean we already had fishes in Salvation.. :PP)

I agree with Judith, this cover would fit the title!
And it could have been done by Jonas! Just remember the cover of the last DepecheMode-Album “Exciter”. This Artwork was done by Jonas, too.
And the styles of both artworks look quite similar.
But I’m satisfied, that this isn’t going to be the cover! ;)

Putting a statement in Swedish on the official site is not very well thought...
The PR for the compilation will suck big time!

This is exactly why Jonas Akerlund needs to be replaced. LOVE PEAS? It sounds like a horrible mistranslation. Thank God it won’t see American press - they’d be laughed right off the continent

>if the article is in swedish is there any way the
>translation of “Love Peas” is wrong?!
No, have a look at roxette.se the album titles are written in english and not in swedish...
Sad, but true :(( I think we have to live with this awful title...

I will so NOT be phoning up or going into a shop asking for that album! I’d be laughed out of the store!
I’ll just hope it’s put out somewhere I can find it!
Love Peas??? Pop Peas? What the hell is up with that!
Oh, don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t be more happier about these upcoming releases. But this is a ’Stars’ singing ducks moment all over again! *Shudder* ;)

Vivaaaaaaaa after star clip when they appear holding fishes and pumpkings I thought that was ok if the new cover was a mix salad

Does it really matter what the title is? We still buy their CD’s for their music, NOT for a title.

It´s quite obvious that the ordinary Roxette fan is quite overtaxed with this brilliant title as well as Akerlund´s videos. Seems like you can´t expect people who consider Wayne Isahm as a good director to understand Akerlund´s videos. Quite sad to find such an enourmous amount of ignorance here.
Jud (moderator) said on August 17, 2002 09:44:
when I read the title an image came to my mind: Per and Marie on the cover, dressed or disguised (however you write the word) as Peas!!!! actually, thinking of Salvation video and Akerlund great mind this couldn´t be so far from the reality!! OMG.. let´s see what the explanation is.. if there is any.. I mean, George Michael had something similar, a double CD with all this hits, and one was called “For the heart” = ballads and “For the feet” = fast/disco/pop songs.. that made a sense,... but this.. unless Peas has some other meaning.. boy..
Yashar said on August 17, 2002 10:26:
Per is so stubborn.I’m sure he won’t change the title.
Remember the time we was shouting here:
“Please don’t release Greatest Hits or Compilation.”
He didn’t listen.
Now,Be sure that this strange title won’t be changed.

Don’t know why Rox has to pick him up over and over and over again!? Looks like Sweden is running short on talented designers/creatives/directors.
tevensso (moderator) said on August 17, 2002 10:55:
There is a Swedish saying that can fit LovePeas... “Synd på så rara ärtor” - “Don’t waste such sweet peas”, meaning roughly that if you have something good you should share it with people. Using the phrase means that you haven’t shared as you should.
zeeshan said on August 17, 2002 11:04:
@tevensso: That swedish saying sucks. How many people know about such a swedish saying? The chances are that many in sweden may not even be aware of such a saying in their own language. Oh perhaps Per should try to add that little translation of that swedish saying in the album cover so that the world could understand WHY they choosed a stupid name.
Sascha said on August 17, 2002 12:51:
What do you have against peas? Has the majority of fans so little imagination to get the point of this title?
It’s not just Jonas, Per or Marie who decided this title. The main EMI offices gave their okay too. Do you think they would waste their money because of an anti-commercial title?
Dumb! It sounds quite interesting, peas of art!
daniel_alv said on August 17, 2002 17:05:
what are you talking about? the title LovePeas is also mentioned at www.emi.se ’s relaselist... so there is no mistake
daniel_alv said on August 17, 2002 17:07:
people don’t skip to buy the album because of the title, people will buy it because it’s the best......
Jud (moderator) said on August 17, 2002 18:36:
tevensso: ;) nice to know.. but well.. they should have thought of an english saying? or is there any US/UK fan who could confirm that theres a similar saying?
Denstandigaresan said on August 18, 2002 23:28:
Yeah, of course ’WE’D’ buy it... we’re the Roxette fans. But will the general public?? Me thinking not!
Ahhh well, I’ll just have to save all my pennies and buy as many copies as I can!(Urm, that would be just the one then! :( ) ;) Give them at least SOME chance again in the UK!
Yeah, it’s a funny title... but I personally think, Greatest Hits-the ballads/Pop is a darn sight better title! :)
Why are all the UK fans signing in as anon? It’s not THAT bad! LOL! :D
Nefatari said on August 19, 2002 09:57:
Last year I’ve bought some GH-CD’s (Madonna, New Order, Bryan Adams, Bee Gees .. and so on) .. I’m not a Fan of those Bands, just bought there GH to have some well known songs on CD. And I didn’t care in anyway about the titles of the GH-CD’s.
Maybe other people think about that the same way, they just want to listen to the best songs of a band, and don’t care about a title ...
Well, I’m sure, it will go this way!
roxing-Jane said on August 21, 2002 20:38:
LOLOLOL!
Why not taking this cover??

Ha ha! You got me good... I thought that THAT was the cover of the new CD (I couldn’t believe that Akerlund would come up with THAT!!)... I was thinking it looks like a bootleg... thank God that’s not the real cover!
