Hidden Roxette gem on Blackpool DVD
dizzydaleks said on June 19, 2003 11:15:
Having fond memories of going to Blackpool as a kid (Blackpool is a cheap and cheery seaside resort for those miles from the UK ;) ), I bought a DVD about the resort ffrom the net. It arrived today - and in the illuminations switch on ceremony part (Blackpool has a famous light show in the Winter months) there are Per and Marie singing Wish I Could Fly and Milk and Toast and Honey.
Yeeaaah!

Hiya Steven,
I got the DVD from play.com for £7.99. The songs are in their entirety (and features an amusing bit where Per nearly misses his queue to sing “here it comes” in MATAH.
For a cheap-o DVD, the quality on Roxette is great (they’re found under the 2001 switch on menu)
The DVD is called Blackpool and the Illuminations ... and I hope this has been ’illuminating’ for you ;)
ps - I was going to go myself, Manchester not being far, but the thought of being crushed by hundreds of Steps fans going “Who are they?” when Roxette came on put me off. Wish it hadn’t ...
dizzydaleks said on June 19, 2003 12:39:
It’s not region coded either, beyond being PAL, so come on all you Roxette fans out there ...
And before anyone asks, no I’m not on commission for this release ;)

Sorry, but where is Blackpool, and where can i buy this DVD (without a creditcard) ?
dizzydaleks said on June 19, 2003 13:07:
Colin, Blackpool is on the North West Coast of the UK, and is a holiday resort. As for where to get the DVD without a credit card, I honestly don’t know - I only stumbled upon the DVD on play.com ...and a trip to Blackpool itself may prove a tad expensive travel wise ...

Yeah I was there too.... arrived at 11am got a place at the front ready for when security open the barriers to the front of the stage.... was surrounded by tonz of kids singing steps songs.... hung around for 3 hours got pissed off cause they would not open barriers and went home and listened to it on the radio!!!
@ Dizzy..... yep your right about the step fans I was the oldest there and when these little kids about 12 years old kept coming up to me and saying “Oh do you like steps” when I said I was here for Roxette.... it was like “who are they????” We should have gone togeather like an army... I tune in and listened to Radio 2!! Did not know you where from Manchester... I am a Bolton lass myself!!

How mad that was!!
dizzydaleks said on June 19, 2003 22:59:
@ally - if I had the net then, I would have organised a Roxette march on Blackpool! ;)

Received it this morning. Good quality with one camera on them all the time. they perfomed in between emma bunton and Marti Pellow and got just as good response from the crowd.
ChrisWilliams said on June 26, 2003 17:25:
Got mine today as well. Very good picture quality, and even better when you compare it with performances from the 1990s, where the sound is just terrible.
I hate to say it, but Marie did butcher Wish I Could Fly :-S
If only they’d released The Centre Of The Heart over here instead of Milk And Toast And Honey - I’m sure it would have done brilliantly in the charts (that’s not vain hope, as I’m sure Real Sugar would have flopped), plus it would have made for a great performance at a lively atmosphere such as the Illuminations.

Thanks again to dizzydaleks for letting us know about the release :-)

Have to agree with you on WICF but MATAH sounded good. I think Per was miming though. It looks like they felt quite uncomfortable when they started. Maybe the audience needed warming up a bit (what with it being Blackpool an all).
Yeah thanks Dizzy daleks.

Hey guys! Glad you all liked it! Do you know, as soon as I saw Roxette on this DVD I flew to here to let you all know - glad it’s paid off!
For a cheapo DVD, the quality is good, isn’t it!

Wow, that’s interesting...
I was there (of a fashion), I was only able to secure a place on the beach watching the giant screens. The main arena was full.
Does this DVD feature a small clip or the whole song?
I would be grateful if you could share any more information you have about the DVD, including where you bought it and price. Thanks.
