hey guys,
I am guessing that midsummer in sweden is a BIG thing. I do not understand the cultural significance - can one of you explain? It would be great to know a little more...I await your response. thanx- oam

what do you want to know?
midsummer is celebrated friday-saturday between 20-26 of july (at the time of “summer solstice”).
actually I’m not quite sure why, but we do.
the midsummer day is celebrated in the memory of some guys (“Johannes döparens”) birth..
you’re supposed to dance around a big “pole” and sing and have fun.
parents use it as an excuse to bring you to see relatives and to other it’s another excuse to drink ;)
sing with me: små grodorna, små grodorna e lustiga att se.....

The disease as spread to NYC too!
Our event is actually bigger than any in Sweden. (Only because we are concentrated at one event. Not having to choose from hundreds happening the same day).
5000 people came last year to dance around the maypole.
3000 party people at the after party.

why such a big deal!? I mean of course it’s nice that you celbrate midsummer, but how come? I hardly ever do anything special at midsummer...
just have to ask; are you dancing around a “midsommarstång” singing “små grodorna, små grodorna e lustiga att se. ej öron, ej öron, ej svansar hava de.....” ? I’d like to see that!!! ;)

Would like to know more about it.
In a few weeks we are going there to celebrate midsummer (or if there is nothing to celebrate, just to have a good time and fun).
But if there is something we should know about it, let us know!
