SHOPPING!!!

Lets have something a little light hearted.... who likes shopping... we all know girls love to shop but what is the one thing you can’t stop buying...
For me it has to be bags, purses/wallets & shoes
I went shopping today and bought 3 bags from Debenhams, well they did have this 12 hours spectacular thing on with 25% off (for those outside the UK and whom don’t have Debenhams in there country it is a massive department store)
Did you know they know have a Debenhams in Stockholm - needless to say I was quite surprised when I saw it??
Stormkeeper said on May 15, 2003 21:10:
I buy too many CD‘s and feel guilty about it.
Also I have to buy a lot of socks (yes, socks:)) all the time because they never last long on me.
Vixzter said on May 15, 2003 21:12:
@storm: the washing machine eats my sox!!! I swear it does.....2 go in.....1 comes out! ....where the hell did the other one go? ;)

Wow this was a good thread... you guys where really quick off the mark with this one....
@ Vixzter.... I only got the dosh as it’s pay day... I love the 15th of the month... I also agree with you my washing machine has the same problem, 2 go in 1 comes out...
AND JUST IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW I ALSO SHOPPED TODAY AND BOOKED MY HOLIDAY FOR DEC... GUESS WHERE I AM GOING??
DaminehGessle said on May 15, 2003 21:24:
HAha socks... YEAH!!! And my socks are in different colours and styles so they wouldnt go together :D
I love shopping. Last term I worked in the US for 4 months, got paid $3500USD per month. When I got back to Canada and my mom asked me to give her my money so that she could get CDN for it, I have her a dime haha. For those outside Canada, a dime is worth 10 cents. SO yeah that’s how much I love shopping. And no I neither paid for rent nor food nor gas! Single with no kids… go figure. It all goes to brand names. Sometimes I’m ashamed of myself when someone asks how much I’d paid for the shoes I’m wearing and I say 600. Shame on me!
Shane said on May 15, 2003 21:45:
Great topic - I love shopping but only when I am not in a hurry. Shoe shopping is the best but I have to dress up for work all of the time, so I also love shopping for casual clothes.
I am so glad other people experience that whole “washing machine eating one sock” problem - I have a huge stash of single socks - keep waiting for the other one to eventually come home....
DaminehGessle said on May 15, 2003 22:32:
My mom says it’s not the washing machine that eats up the socks. It’s us that are untidy :D
powerpoplarry said on May 16, 2003 05:08:
Yes Ally, great topic, funny about the socks issue, happens to me too, every so often, hehe!!
Me, I mainly enjoy CD + DVD shopping. When I have available cash, I go to used CD stores and hunt for promos, both new releases and out-of-print used titles I am looking for. I also look in the papers for great sales at stores like Best Buy + Target, as sometimes, a key new release comes out by a band I have hunches about, and the early sale is, like, $5.99 US!! I also check out the new DVD releases as well, almost as exciting as new CD releases. Bookstores are cool too. Same with electronics and games.
Sometimes, I go clothes shopping, but that is rare. What is it about guys rarely clothes-shopping?? Same with shoes + sneakers, only when we need them, not for pleasure. I’ve always wondered why, hmmm???

I spend most money on CDs. Even though I get CDs for free to review, I still buy lots (too many probably) of them. It’s an addiction...

Shoes shoes shoes. Can’t stay away from them damn shoe stores!
Jackie_Radiorox said on May 17, 2003 18:30:
I can’t stand malls actually. I am the type of girl that goes to the mall only when it is a pure need.
Usually I’ll go to Hot Topic (You can check out their site - www.hottopic.com) because they have funky rocker/goth babydoll shirts.
Passed that I can’t stay out of music shops, I love looking at guitars, going to the drum section and playing them, it’s fun!
CD shops, I don’t dare to go anymore, too expensive and you can usually find stuff on the Net for cheaper.
Oh! Best Buy! can’t live without that. When I do go CD shopping usually that is where I go.. For DVDs too :)
My take on the sock issue, I’ll put in a pair and come back with half. I think that there are either little faeries which lurk inside the dryer (which is weird cos Faeries like to steal metal objects but who knows!) or to be scientifical - somehow they disintegrate and become that fluff that you pull out! :P
powerpoplarry said on May 18, 2003 05:47:
Ally, I am NOT surprised to see you booked your holiday in Sweden, yet again, LOL!! You’re like, addicted to that place, not that I blame you, hehe!! I NEED to get over there, definitely next year for the GT tour!! ;-) Another hotel??!!?? Oh Ally, I am soooo disappointed in you!!??!! Your friends will never forgive you!! LOL!!
Chemist/Sarah: where have you been?? Haha, about bookshops, espesh SCI-FI bookshops!! ;-)
Bubbles: shoes for you too, eh?? ;-)
Jackie: I work at a Sam Ash, in Huntington Station, NY, so I know what you mean about coming in and just playing the instruments on the floor. We do it there all the time, very fun. I have a feeling you resemble my friend Melissa who works as a cashier there. She sings for a death metal band called SUFFERING, she has loads of tattoos, and her hair is basically long, multicoloured dreadlocks, piercings everywhere, but she is really pretty as well. I know of Hot Topic, only heard good things about that store. Back to Sam Ash, we have a great guitar section, and in the drum section, we have a killer Roland electronic kit set up, and people play it all the time, including me!!
Yes, most mall CD stores are too expensive, that’s why I only go to mom + pop indie ones, used CD stores, and Best Buy + Target for the good sales, for CDs and DVDs. Once in a while, a chain store like Sam Goody has a good sale, plus I am a Replay member + I receive the occasional coupon in the mail, so I take advantage. Just bought the new Damone CD for $5 and change with the discount. NO WAY will I pay $18.99 for a DOMESTIC (US) released CD, only for an import will I pay that, or a rare, out-of-print title.
And about your take on the sock issue, you’re TOO funny, LOL!! Faeries lurking at the bottom of the dryer, hahahaha!! And disintegrating into lint, LOL!! Cool theory, never heard that one before, but it could make for a cool children’s storybook, dontcha think?? May I borrow that idea, or do you want to collaborate?? ;-)

Jackie_Radiorox said on May 19, 2003 03:22:
Larry - Sure! Just give me 10% from the sales and I’ll be a happy camper. ;)
About Sam Ash, we have two close to me. One was actually a Mars Music and I think it was in April that they turned it into Sam Ash and I couldn’t be happier because the other one is kinda far away.
I’ve bought 95% of my musical things from Sam Ash, Telecaster (My baby!), Crate Amp, Wires, Picks, Guitar Strings. Most recently a mini amp and a drum throne. And I do know the Roland drums you refer to (i think.. the white ones?) they are amazing!! I have the Yamaha DD-55 ones simply because I can’t fit a kit in my house and my neighbors wouldn’t like me banging away on those anyway. (I think my guitar playing is bad enough. ;)) I have some peircings (My ears mostly two on each ear) my tattoos, and usually only put blood read highlights on my hair (which I am dark blond so when the highlights fade those areas go blond blond... chlorine water adds to that effect as well LOL!) And i do write and record my own music. A friend of mine has been trying to work with me, ut we are far away so we work over the net... let’s see what happens.
A few other shopping places I love to go to is Spencer Gifts. I love those type of novelty shops, you find some fun stuff there! Like glow in the dark stuff. My room, when I flick on the black light, has stars, planets, comets, musical notes and all sorts of things that glow in the dark all over the place... looks really cool!
And i guess you can consider this shopping... for food, but well whatever.. Starbucks... I am a junkie!!
powerpoplarry said on May 20, 2003 00:41:
Where are you from, Jackie?? Just curious... Me, I’m from Long Island...
powerpoplarry said on May 20, 2003 05:18:
AHHH!! You’re in Miami!! I was there once, back in 1997, on vacation. LOOOOVE South Beach!! How do you take the heat in the summer?? I was there in September of that year, hit Key West as well, and it was hot + wet, almost unbearable...
Jackie_Radiorox said on May 21, 2003 12:52:
Hmmm you just grab the heat, stick it in a suitcase and... Oh.. nevermind.
Yea, the heat here is psychotic and deadly. Stick the airconditioning on, suck down a lot of water and you’ll be fine. August is the worst time to come down here, stay away!! ;) :) It’s pretty much one season here - Summer all the time. Nah, we had some nippy days down here during winter. Well, nippy for us. We had a night that the weather hit about 40something which was niiiiice!
S. Beach is ok, just overcrowded and overdone IMHO. I only go there when I get dragged to the clubs there.
Ally87 said on May 21, 2003 13:41:
*agrees with ailsa* ooooh, yeah bags!!!! but i have waaay too many of them... more than hats and shoes!!
Marlene said on May 21, 2003 20:42:
I love reading. So I have a big problem in shopping. I’m supposed to buy some socks (my washing machine likes them, too), some new cloths for my little girl (she grows really fast) and some birthday presents. But this bookshops are like some kind of magnet. I can’t pass and when I come out again my money is gone. But why worry, I hope it will be fashionable someday to wear two different coloured socks.
Jackie_Radiorox said on May 26, 2003 02:13:
Ah! Fergot totally... STICKERS!!! I love stickers with funky sayings or taboo sayings... Actually I have an upper wall of my room that I have bumper stickers stuck on (with double stick tape so I can remove them). I made it look like blocks, so it’s funky. And I have some on my bedroom door.
Anarem said on May 26, 2003 02:45:
I think my shopping addiction is posters. I love collecting posters and vintage prints. The stuff I’ve bought on eBay! Oy vey. My favourite ones are the poster of Marie from the Äntligen single and a old Casablanca print.

Whenever you see a guy and a girl shopping together for housewares, bedding/towels, fabric and such, you just have to think to yourself, “There goes one MISERABLE dude.”
ally77 said on February 23, 2005 22:06:
I like that.... a girl at work is planning her wedding for September, today in her lunch she went off shopping for wedding dresses and tried on three! going off the relationship history - I don’t think this wedding will happen! they are only doing it for the sake of the baby... . which in turn is so sad!
KristinaDK said on February 24, 2005 20:17:
I must be crazy... I’m a girl, and I never liked shopping clothes that much.. Except when I find smt very “uncommon” or fun...or black *G*
...My boyfriend always teases me, but I guess that’s okeh - I’ve no problems bringing him with me when we have to go shopping food eg. ...At least he never gets tired of me *G*
...But hey - I’ve another passion than clothes, bags, shoes... I’m a target shooter - and I simply CANNOT resist shopping every now and then for that little extra or new item for the rifles, clothes for the pratice, whatever.. Spend wayyyyyyy too much money on that!!!! So well - perhaps I’ve got the “shopping-thingy” too *G*
ally77 said on February 24, 2005 21:44:
Jealous because someone is trying her hardest to marry someone only because they have a baby, it’s not good for them neither the child. They argue, they leave each other they get back togeather, jeez they are paying a god damn fortune on holidays this year and a wedding and they don’t even have there own place to live!
No thanx, I am happy in my own home, with my single life.... over coming into work everyday crying because of yet another arguement with hubbie to be!
Trust me before September this wedding will be cancelled.... it will not happy because he the older one in the relationship will escape before much longer for his own sanity!
pumpkins said on February 25, 2005 07:54:
@Ally. I hope this girl does not consider you to be her friend. Instead of judging the situation why do you not give her a bit of advice. Especially with your ability to see in to the future. If things are that bad then she could sure do with your great wisdom.
Anarem said on February 25, 2005 22:23:
My addiction to posters has now turned into a DVD addiction. I love going to the used DVD stores and finding good movies for super-cheap!

It’s funny– you tell Ally not to be judgemental, yet you’re the one who condemned gay people for who they are, not too long ago. If there’s one thing I can’t stand more than a killjoy, it’s a hypocrite!
pumpkins said on February 26, 2005 01:41:
@Anarem. You must hate living with yourself then. Am I not entitled to my own opinion or do I have to follow all the other sheep and bleat to their tune? I admire your ability to decide I am fun/not fun. Wow! just from reading a few lines on a page. Respect!

Nice post there pumkins about having an opinion, just like mine over the friend with the wedding! talk about contridicting yourself! :S
Anarem said on February 28, 2005 00:18:
@pumpkins: I’ve read more than a few lines of yours, buddy, and I *know* you’re a killjoy. You take a topic– a *fun* topic like shopping, and you turn it into a real downer. Geez. Lighten up, would ya?
RoxHard said on February 28, 2005 01:20:
Erm... OK... Moving on! ;-)
Let’s just say... a very generous friend hands me £1,000 and says “buy whatever the hell you want!”, I’d end up buying £950 worth of CDs... the rest would be spent on snacks and possibly a trip to the cinama :)
I HATE CLOTHES SHOPS! Something about the smell of the place... I can’t stand it! Everytime I need to buy some clothes, I think about what I’d like to buy the night beforehand, and then I wouldn’t have to spend more than 10 minutes in a clothes store! :)
